sorry ben, but ur arguement is flawed. the flaw being drifinting aint a sport :(

well none of it is motorsport then.

if everyone pulled their heads outta the sand and got together like hot rod guys we would all be alot better off. The last time i checked the ASRF approved members cars while they were being built.

i find that how they assess the quality of drift is too unrefined.

angle? speed? time between finishes? closeness?

how do the judges measure it? i saw a drift "battle" on video where they based who won by the loudness of the crowd.

it's like a gymnast event where the judges hold up numbers - based on what they personally/professionally feel, and no one REALLY considers gymnastics an event. nor does anyone think dancing with the stars a sport either.

see the trend? gymnast, dancing, drifting? pusseh? j/k

i see it as purely a fun, crowd pleaser type activity, but no way near sport level (yet?) where different aspects of your actions earn you a standardised set of points.

shit, better go tell all those little 5 and 6 year old european kids to stop training now before they waste years of their life preparing for something the eug doesnt think is a sport.

you can see it as what you like but very thing has to start somewhere.

yes the standard of judging can be vague or nondescript at some events, but the bottom line is pass the other car under drfit condtions and you will beat them.

tell that to the thousands of people who watch D1 GP....i'd watch drifting anyday over some of the other garbage...I like watching drag racing and circuit racing, but imho drift is just as good. People talking it up, saying it's so boring and easy, why don't you go in an event and put your skill to the test...then come back and tell us all how "easy" it is lol.

so going by that very basic statement, if the trailing car dont pass, the guy infront wins?

...here comes keegs from way out in left field :)

ive never said the drivers rnt skilled u toss, i said that the whole concept isnt a sport. read the whole convo yeah?

Well I watched most of the ashes series last year. That wasn't sport, it was a bloke kicking a dog.

Any sport at a reasonably competitive level is not easy. (but it may be boring, as in rugby league) People say I could do that about just about everything. Yeah, you can drive a car around a circuit. But if you are a few tenths shy in a controlled spec series you would be waaayyy down the back of the grid...

Being competent is easy. Being good is alot harder. Being a champion is harder still (& not something I will ever need conern myself about)

That holds true for every sport. How difficult it looks to a casual observer has no bearing on the degree of skill required to be a champion. Only the intensity of the competition does.

no it means exactly what i said, if you pass the car in front you are 90% of the time given the win.

It comes down to the judging most of the time though cause it is extremely hard to pass.

but your missing the whole point that i was trying to make shane, it's all motorsport. The sooner all the different parties realise this and work together the sooner it will get better for everyone.

I agree drifting is for people who cant go fast straight or handle corners

Typical answer from someone who obviously can’t control a throttle and steering wheel at the same time while going side ways. Afraid you might come off the mountain?

I wana see this thread get another 3 pages with people trying to flame me

why would we waste our time?

..Flame No. 1 :sorcerer:

Yeah drifters use heaps of throttle control. You need to keep your foot mashed to allow the engine to bounce of the rev limiter every 0.5 seconds. Now that is throttle control.

steering wheel...

Would that be on the rare occassion they are actually holding onto the wheel & not just letting the excessive castor do the steering for them?

How is that for flaming, I am only new to this....

My "drift car" made enough power and enough down low to not need to bounce off the limiter like some little S13 or Sprinter bitch. But hey, my flames did rock at the 9000rpm limiter

I like your effort though, more so about the caster comment. B+, keep up the good work.

    • If you are keeping the current calipers you need to keep the current disc as the spacing of the caliper determines the disc diameter. Have you trial fitted the GTS brakes fit on a GTSt hub or is this forward planning? There could be differences in caliper mount spacing, backing plate and even hub shape that could cause an issue.
    • Hi there I have a r33 gts with 4 stud small brakes, I'm going to convert to 5 stud but keep the small brakes, what size rotor would I need?
    • First up, I wouldn't use PID straight up for boost control. There's also other control techniques that can be implemented. And as I said, and you keep missing the point. It's not the ONE thing, it's the wrapping it up together with everything else in the one system that starts to unravel the problem. It's why there are people who can work in a certain field as a generalist, IE a IT person, and then there are specialists. IE, an SQL database specialist. Sure the IT person can build and run a database, and it'll work, however theyll likely never be as good as a specialist.   So, as said, it's not as simple as you're thinking. And yes, there's a limit to the number of everything's in MCUs, and they run out far to freaking fast when you're designing a complex system, which means you have to make compromises. Add to that, you'll have a limited team working on it, so fixing / tweaking some features means some features are a higher priority than others. Add to that, someone might fix a problem around a certain unrelated feature, and that change due to other complexities in the system design, can now cause a new, unforseen bug in something else.   The whole thing is, as said, sometimes split systems can work as good, and if not better. Plus when there's no need to spend $4k on an all in one solution, to meet the needs of a $200 system, maybe don't just spout off things others have said / you've read. There's a lot of misinformation on the internet, including in translated service manuals, and data sheets. Going and doing, so that you know, is better than stating something you read. Stating something that has been read, is about as useful as an engineering graduate, as all they know is what they've read. And trust me, nearly every engineering graduate is useless in the real world. And add to that, if you don't know this stuff, and just have an opinion, maybe accept what people with experience are telling you as information, and don't keep reciting the exact same thing over and over in response.
    • How complicated is PID boost control? To me it really doesn't seem that difficult. I'm not disputing the core assertion (specialization can be better than general purpose solutions), I'm just saying we're 30+ years removed from the days when transistor budgets were in the thousands and we had to hem and haw about whether there's enough ECC DRAM or enough clock cycles or the interrupt handler can respond fast enough to handle another task. I really struggle to see how a Greddy Profec or an HKS EVC7 or whatever else is somehow a far superior solution to what you get in a Haltech Nexus/Elite ECU. I don't see OEMs spending time on dedicated boost control modules in any car I've ever touched. Is there value to separating out a motor controller or engine controller vs an infotainment module? Of course, those are two completely different tasks with highly divergent requirements. The reason why I cite data sheets, service manuals, etc is because as you have clearly suggested I don't know what I'm doing, can't learn how to do anything correctly, and have never actually done anything myself. So when I do offer advice to people I like to use sources that are not just based off of taking my word for it and can be independently verified by others so it's not just my misinterpretation of a primary source.
    • That's awesome, well done! Love all these older Datsun / Nissans so rare now
