Replacing Starter Motor Rb20

Hey guys im attempting to change my starter motor this weekend. Not very familiar with rb20 engines but i do have some knowledge on mechanics. Is it a easy enough swap over? can it be done by the backyard mechanic? lol is there anything i should know about that will save me from cursing all morning? tips/help/advice

disconect your battery to start of with

it preety easy to do you will need a 12mm spanner and 14mm spanner 10mm spanner for battery

all you do is disconect batt, remove wires on starter one will be a 12mm nut and the other will be a push on wire

undo two 14mm bolts and pull it out

and install is reverse just make sure yoou compare your old one with new one to make sure there the same

it is preety tight to get your hands in there but shouldnt take you any longer than a hour to do it.

and its easyer from the top than the bottom

Instead of starting a new thread might aswell ask here. Im planning on replacing my belts aswell, (power steering,a/c etc) anyone know where i can get some in sydney liverpool area preferred. rb20 btw

Most places like Autobarn etc should have the right ones.

According to the gates book in front of me:

well gave it ago today, with no luck, and the short spurt of rain didnt help either lol. I just couldnet manage to undo the one bolt. managed to get the bottom one off piss easy but the top one, couldnt get my hands or a spanner in there. is there a special shaped spanner or socket piece i could you to squeeze it in there?

I think I might have used 2 12" extensions and a 14mm socket on a ratchet. Feed it in from near the alternator.

I have a little collection of various extensions, and swivel joints. Usually does the job for hard to get at stuff like that one

yea looks like i will, i think ill just pay supercheap a visit and get some extensions. when you mean feed it from the alternator do you mean from the top or bottom?

I heard that auto and manual starters have different number of teeth on gear. does this matter much?
