I had a question from a mate who wanted to organise a cruise with his mini truck buddies,

should you tell the local police where and when you are going?

does this help in getting them to leave you alone when they see a bunch of modified cars all heading somewhere in stead of thinking you're a bunch of drug dealers?

or is it an invitation to set up a speed trap somewhere along your route?

I've never spoken to the police directly about a cruise, but from I've heard from previous SAU cruises the police have welcomed the fact that you're letting them know what is happening. I've never heard of a situation where the Police have taken advantage of the fact that you have let them know you're coming (ie. setting up speed traps and defect stations). I think the best plan of attack is stressing to the police that you are a responsible club, and if there are any hoon activities you will report the license plates of these vehicles yourselves! Make sure you tell the participants of the cruise the same thing if you genuinely dont want any shenanigans!

The police wont give you a green light to go nuts, but at the same time they will appreciate the notice, and should show you the respect in return by not targeting you.

Yeah tell them what you plan on doing and that if anyone acts up you will personally call them with the troublemakers rego number
