Hey Guys,

As most of you knew, I owned an R33 S2 GTSt with 200rw/kw for quite a few years and now almost 6 months driving a 2005 Pulsar Q I’m itching for a new power toy.

Basically I would LOVE an R34 GTR however its way out of my budget ($23,000) and so I have been test driving the following:

R32 GTR

Pros: Twin Turbo + 4WD + Excellent handling + Cheap (under $20,000)

Cons: 15 yr old + Most in poor condition + will need lots of $$$ for restoration (paint, interior .etc.)

S15 Jap Spec

Pros: New (current) shape + gorgeous interior + light weight + SR20DET (easier and cheaper to mod then RB's)

Cons: RWD (traction issues) + needs big work for big power

R34 GTT

Pros: New shape + Nice interior + Easy to get big power + Excellent handling

Cons: RWD (traction issues) + Heavy

I personally love the look of the the S15 and the R32 GTR but love the drive of the R34 GTT...

My question:

In regards to value for money and response to performance mods, which of these three cars should I go for?

NOTE: This will be a weekend car ONLY

Please feel free to comment

Regards,

Sarkis

Is this going to be a toy? or a daily practical vehicle? The S15 is no hero for room. If room is what you need the R34GTT i'd say would be the bet.

The R32 as you said needs lots of $$ to restore and keep it maintained. Let alone the cost to modify is expensive as well.

So It'd be a fight between the S15 and R34 GTT.

Fun=S15

All Rounder=R34 GTT

Depends what you want the car for.

If you need a daily car, forget the GTR as it wont be practical.

If you are a short Asian guy then s15 is perfect. If your a tall aussie bloke then go for R34.

Horses for courses.

Ok in terms of power, the GTR is tops.

R32:

Can never go wrong with an R32 GTR. As you said, it requires money to restore the car as it is pretty old. When things break, they can be expensive. Quick Car.

R34:

Similiar with the R34 GT-T. When things break, they are expensive. Lots of potential for bigger power. More space. Newer.

S15:

New Car. You might find things coming lose in the interior and hear noises in the cabin. Nice sleek look. 4 cycl so better fuel economy. Wont need to spend too much to get more power. Tail kicks out easy

You can still get a fairly decent R32 GTR for around $23,000 private sale, some with 34 N1 turbos which can easily pump 300+ 4wkw....just gota shop around a bit, wait till the right one turns up

I agree though, if its a daily driver you dont want a GTR. S15s are pretty mean looking.

How much power do you actually want? Im sure a stock R32 GTR gripping with all 4s will be a big difference from a pulsar.

Cheers!

This comparison has been done over quite a few times now. But my two cents, same dilemma when i bought my car... having owned a 32, i didn't want the same shape anymore, so it came down to the S15 vs R34. Test drove both, ended up with the 34. Haven't regretted it.

I wouldn't go for a GTR if I was on a budget like you to be honest. The reasons have already been said. I'd go for the S15 or the 34 depending on whether it's going to be daily car or a weekend/fun car.

S15 for the weekend/fun car and 34 for daily.

R32 GTR- If you can afford ongoing maintenance go for it. You won't look back. Also, for 20k, you won't land a nice one,

will cost you more in the long run. Pay a bit more, don't cry later.

S15- I don't like em. Too small, sr20 engine and they're the new R33 in terms of being common.

R34 GT-T. For 23k, you could get a very nice one. Won't cost you as much as the GTR in terms of maintenance,

probably the best bet if you don't have lots of cash to back you up.

Just to let you guys know, this is going to be a weekend toy ONLY... I'm keeping my Pulsar for daily driving.

My aim is for Power (approx 300rw/kw) + Reliability + +Style + Value for money

Cheers

love the looks of s15, my mate got 1, performance wise in stock form is not very good, pretty much the same like gts-t... my catback+intake gts-t won by half car length. he's got intake and catback exhaust too...

my gts-t now got 214 rwkw @ 13 psi, with the same mods he's got 186 rwkw.. and yes it is jap spec s15 spec R.

i'd say go for R34..

my2c.

Having driven all and owned two 34 gtt's i would say the gtt for a daily and the gtr if its just for fun. In close to standard form they can be a very comfortable and economical daily driver. I had an auto first and that was a bit thirsty but the manual was much better getting around 650km on the highway and 450+ around town. As stated earlier they respond better to mods than an s15 and lack the higher maintanance required by the gtr.
