Cold Air Intake

Hi guys

Just want to know if any of you guys here have a cold air intake flowing to your air filter under the hood??

I have a HKS Powerflow unit and it seems to me that it is just sucking hot air from the engine back. I have read that in other places it will reduce hps and also is not good for the engine.

I have also check out partition kits and shields but they cost a fair bit and I think feeding in cold air will be the way to go.

Anyway I have checked out under my hood and can't seem to find any space to feed a tube vent through. If any of you guys have a solution or where I can run the tube, it would be great.

Oh the car is a R33 GTS-T. I have seen some sort of cold air intake in some GTS-T that comes from the front grill, are these from the factory?? My didn't have one that's why.

If you are using the standard intercooler then the only way to get any airflow is to cut a hole through metal... I dont think its worth it. If are not using the standard intercooler then use one of the holes left over from the old intercooler piping to put a pipe in to vent air to the filter

you could also put the stock air intake back on it feeds plenty of air into the vicinity of the pod. You can also use the stock GTR intake with a a little bit of ingenuity, that flows twice as much as the GTS one. unless your making huge horsepower there is absolutly no need for cutting holes and poking tubes throughto the front bar. Believe me I've been both ways.

However if you'r using a pod you definately need to seperate it off from the engine bay

I'm using stock intercooler that's why it's such a headache finding room for a cold intake pipe.

I think I'll just install a partition of some sort.

Thanks for the suggestion 51jay, but I don't have the standard GTS-T air filter and box as my car came with the HKS pod when I brough it.

idea chnage the hks pod to one that actually filters the air...had a trust pod...now have a K&n better filter abilty..cleaner engine..longer life..depends how long ya wanna keep in for thoe..lolz

Does the K&N flow better than the HKS items??

There is all these therios out there about air filters.

All I know is the my HKS make a damn loud noise when SUCKING...

Does anyone know how often should you change the foam on one of these things? Or do we just keep cleaning it?

I know you can oil and clean the K&N airfilter. Do you have to oil the HKS POwer flow as well??

K&N filters have some of the best filters and technology world wide. People understimate them alot. You have to remember that when using a K&N air filter on skylines they are an oiled filter, therefor you must clean the air flow meter every say 5,000km to stop the build up of oil which sucks through the filter, clogging up the air flow meter and reducing performance/idle/fuel economy etc. They are usually popular on skylines however for their notorious intake roar!! Mine howls

RE: K&N oil coming off, FWIW, I found this newsgroup post (from K&N themselves), which states that the oil does not come off K&N filters, but does come off other brands. I guess K&N are bound to say this though aren't they.
