just an idea but i was thinking of getting a stock pair of 16 inch rims and putting some 4wd tyres on so i can go to a nothern surf spot. no serious 4wd just some light sand stuff and use my normal wheels for everyday driving. what size tyres could i fit on the 16 rims with no clearance problems. i have already tried some 4wd fun but with some small 4wd tyres with low pressure it would be quite capable in sand

i dont think the attessa system would like it very much having lack of traction on the front end for long periods of time, its not really designed for that use. The clutch packs and attessa oil would heat up pretty quick i would imagine. The ocasional bit of soft sand and front wheel loss of traction is fine but non stop driving with the attessa operating the front wheels i doubt would be healthy.

thats my 2c worth :D

+1

Tranny heat would also cause problems but thats easy to cool, the ATESSA system isn't...

Just remeber that this car was built for japanese (read icy) conditions and driving the front wheels on snow and ice doesn't drag on the power train because there is bugger all torque being transmitted. In sand there is a LOT of torque involved and thats when the heat starts to build up at the servo holding the clutch packs in.

the aussie delivered gtr's come factory with an attessa oil cooler actually but i doubt it would be enough. The clutch packs for the front wheel drive wouldnt even pull a car off a dyno roller from my experience without smoking them badly so trying to pull a car through sand is gonna be worse imo.

Reminds me of that old tv ad for audi quattro system - think it was the a6 quattro or allroad, or something, and the car towed a boogie boarder all over the shallows on this huge beach. - looked awesome!

Audi ended up with a serious slap on the wrist for not letting people know that they destroyed 5 cars just filming the ad!
