Hey Guys,

When i purchased my 260rs stag recently i took it for a test drive (as you do) and i found that when doing light cornering i was getting that wheel scrub thing going on like you see on commodores etc with locker diffs. At first i just thought that maybe that is the way its ment to be being a 4wd with LSD's plus the oild was probably crap and had been in there too long and the tyres were worn a considerably.

But after tyre change and diff oil changes i am still getting the problem, if it was just when i was pulling out of carparks etc it wouldn't be a problem but when i am doing a sharp turn left or right (at the traffic lights etc) i am getting the same thing happening... its a bit disconcerning as its really effecting the smoothnes at which corners can be taken, really unbalancing the car. It feels like its kinda bunny hopping around the bend a bit

Can someone give me some clues as to why this would be happenin? is my dif screwed? if your going to ask what oil was used im not exactly sure as it was done at the mechanics. But i was assured it was LSD oil.

What do you guys with the 260's use in yours??

Thanks guys any help would be appreciated

First of all when i purchased the 260rs i didnt test drove one or even sat in one before :P .

The symptoms that you are describing does it happen everytime when you are conering? Left and right? Does any of your warning lights on at all?

You might wantto check the ATTESA fluid located at the back oof the boot area. Drivers side. It might look its more than the maximum line when cold but after warm up it should be on the dot.

Where did you take your rig to be serviced at? Is he a skyline specialist? Now for the Oils.

!. engine oil i sued Mobil1 syn but my tuner whack in Castrol(switching back to Mobil on the next service).

2. Fron Diff and Gearbox Mobil gearbox oil.

3. Rear Diff Mobil LSD.

4. Transfer case Mobil ATF( this is important to use ATF only).

All the diffs, gearbox and tranfer case i added Nulon additives into it. Im going to add Slick50 engine treatment to the engine on the next oil change. Hope this helps you abit. How many liters of oils were used in each component?

Also your rig is only a few months old on the road(max. 8mths?) and you need new tyres already? It seems weird.

Not that mine was a 260RS, but I am running the same gear, and I don't have that issue. Mine's pretty much silent in the rear end during all low speed corners, be it u-turns, or car parks, etc. Sorry I'm no more help...

I am going to find out a little more about what oils were used, but as far as i know the engine oil was penrite... I have checked the oil on the drivers side and there doesn't appear to be any issue there when its cold its near the min line when its warm its pretty close to the max line, but the problem acutally seems to come from the front of the car, as in the transmission/front diff... i haven't really noticed it with the rear. And yes it does have the problem for both left and right cornering...

My mechanic is not a skyline specialist but perhaps i will take it to one. There are a couple around my area so might drop it down to them, at the very least to get an opinion.

hhmmm i just realised the car has some kind of torque split control system, i really have no idea how it works, there is a switch in the cabin that has three positions up/middle/down. The guy i bought it from told me the settings were up= 50/50 split middle= normal/standard down=1/99 front to rear...

I still think the skyline specialist is probably the best idea.

Thanks for your input guys

Sounds like what an RS4 will do when put into 50/50 mode, I would have that "torque split control system" checked out.

Have you tried switching through the different modes and seeing if that makes any difference?

yeah i have but it doesn't seem to change anything... i was thinking along the lines you were munchstagea. I might try and get into the thing and have a good look at it find out what company makes it. See if i can find a manual for it somewhere.

Cheers

just a thought guys but do you think it may have an aftermarket 2way lsd/locked centre diff in it?

as this would most probably show the same symptoms you are describing

just my 2 cents.

cheers oxford

hmm lots of options here... what does everyone think is the best course of action? im not real keen on pulling the thing apart myself as i would really have no idea what im doing. Can someone recommend a skyline specialist in melbourne? I know this kinda question is hard to answer as you won't want to recommend someone who will do bad work... ill make the decision myself i just need some options.

Cheers all

So... i played with the magic switch, which im sure you were all thinking why didn't he do that straight away...

anyway switch up, made no difference seemed the same. Switch down acutally did something no more wheel scrubbing and seemed okay... problem is i still don't know exactly what the switch is doing. Is all the way down all rear wheel drive and the front diff is still screwed? hhmm i wish the weekend was so much longer i still have stereos and coil overs to play with...

Has anyone seen this sort of switching system? it consists of a swith on the dash that runs to a boxish thing in the middle consol cupholder (stupid place for it really, then there is some other kind of box thing in the back left pannel of the boot near where you would put a stacker.

anywayz i will keep you all updated

Cyaz

Its not factory. Sound like an aftermarket controller. 50/50 would be great for the drags which is probably why it was put in there and its why I would recommend you det the front diff or the tfr clutchpacks looked at.
