It's not always engaged, you should have a little torquemeter, on the top left of your instrument panel, it's basically RWD then it engages AWD and adjusts the split as it's needed, and yeh you lose power.. but if your talking in the wet then you gain speed :D

power is still there, but once 4wd is engaged the torque is split between the front and back.

its only really useful when you're trying to build momentum off the line or out of a corner. but once you've hit a certain speed then the 4wd is useless unless you've got alot more power than standard.

yea i definately noticed this... if it was wet, the AWD was great cause not much wheel spin, but in the dry i hate it... reeeeally slowes me down off the line. Even in RWD with lots of wheel spin id accelerate faster than if AWD was activated.

every car is different so it would be interesting to know a formula to calculate how much power is lost in AWD.

I could imagine it being a tough formula though as the AWD torque varies.
