raws doesn't descriminate based on country of manufacture. so it's exactly the same rules as importing japanese cars. or russian cars. or mexican cars. :P

an import is an import. and there are places that bring in some euro cars but the typical euro car buyer doesn't want a second hand imported car with no known history.

LHD would be the most common problem with the coolest of euro cars also.

RHD examples of all modern euros except maybe for porsche are easily accessible here in japan..they are plentiful.

i get the sneaking suspicion only models made prior to 1989 are eligible for import approval..

Yeah right I didn't think Japan got much RHD euro stuff, I thought it was mainly LHD.

For things people would want to buy like BMW M or Benz AMG ect all come out in Australia new so would be excluded from SEVS.

whats the average price for a Ferrari 360 in RHD? i could only find LHD examples. from what i've found the LHD stuff goes for around $150k-$250k still cheap for a 360

you're thinking about this all wrong. again, DOTARS doesn't care whether a care is euro, jap-o, hindi, pakistani whatever. the rules apply the same to any manufacturer.

they are all listed somewhere here but basically you cannot import a vehicle if the same or very similar model was sold here in full volume. if the model you want to import was not sold in full volume then sure you can import it providing you can have it added to the SEVS register. To be added to the SEVS register there are certain requirements it must meet (be unique, performance level, equipment level, magazine featured etc). Then to comply it you must be a RAW or get a RAW to do it for you.

again, it's nothing to do with 1989 etc. There are 3 main ways to import any car into australia (again doesn't matter where from). Personal import. 1988 and earlier model cars and lastly SEVS.

i understood the 3 methods. obviously one of the ways im going to do it is to have a private import but starting a business is also on the list of things to do.

Having a car added to the sevs register doesnt involve anything like smashing the car to prove its safety, does it?

I think you need some reading time on DOTARS website. it will guide you through the process. :action-smiley-069:http://www.dotars.gov.au/

just remember any model of car that was sold here in full volume cannot be added to the SEVS low volume register. so forget 3 series BMW, 5 series BMW, CLK mercs, SLK mercs, etc etc.

ferrari's and lamborghinis are already on the SEVS register as this is how the manufacturers chose to import them into AUS.

    • All I can say Duncan is good luck and I hope that Neil did not run any E85 in Cheryl. I have recently experienced the full spectrum of fuel tank issues in my R33's that had been caused by E85 and contaminated fuel. When you take the cover off the top of the tank and have a look inside you will get an understanding of how easy it will be. Best case situation is clean fuel with minimal contamination. My GTR was like this and it was a very simple operation to just grab the fuel pump carrier bracket and slide it up and out of the tank. My three GTS_T's had different levels of fuel contamination that was probably caused by E85 in the fuel.  In the worst case all of the metal components in the tank had rusted to the point where there were pieces of rusted metal swirling around in the tank. This required the removal of the exhaust, the tailshaft, the complete rear cradle and the fuel tank. The components in the tank were that rusted that it took days to get the fuel pump carrier and the mounting brackets out of the tank. When the tank was finally cleaned, everything inside the tank had to be replaced. With the tank all back together I could then reinstall it in the car along with everything else that had to come out. Good luck and I hope that you find a clean tank.
    • It is a two door. It is black and also still has the OEM wheels and stereo. Exact model would be KR_R32RGFEL_SS According to GTR-Registry.com is a 2 Door Coupe; RB20DE; 2WD no HICAS; MT.F5; (11L) Projector Headlamps and Fog Lights; (12_) Electronic Active Full Auto Air Con (Climate Control); (13-14SS) V Selection -- Which seems to be accurate description of my variant. Will try to upload a few pictures soon. The OEM wheels look like the below image. Image is taken from the goo-net-exchange website.
