Just wondering, wanting to start racing soon... so the helmet required... i read on Timeattack.com.au:

"Check that your helmet has the required safety stickers and has no cracks."

What safety stickers? Are there requirments like some "..... approved" helemt..

and... how about the long sleave to neck? is that forced?

"Check that your clothing is long sleeved, neck to wrist to ankle. "

You may want to edit the title of your thread or start a new one!

You need a helmet that meets the Australian Standards, one that has either ADR approval sticker or one with the Aussie tripple ticks...

Dont remove this sticker from your helmet once you buy it as it needs to be checked every time you race.

Good place to get a wide range of helmets is motorbike shops...

Thought for you tho;

When I bought my first helmet I asked "How much do i spend" cause the range is very wide from $50 through to thousands...

The salesman replyed with "How much do you think your heads worth" :)

You'll likely find that the main difference between a helmet that costs a few hundred and one that costs $1200+ are things like air vents, snazzy colour schemes, racer endorsements and the like. You'll also pay more for removable linings (so you can wash or replace them as needed), clip-in guards that deflect your breath away from the visor, different kinds of visor pods, and of course the brand. HJC for example will always be cheaper than a Shoei or Arai. It depends just as much on what you're planning on doing with it as anything else.

All that said, if the helmet isn't comfortable and/or doesn't fit you properly, it's not safe. If you have a fat head like mine you'll probably want to look at a HJC, they're middle-of-the-road stuff in terms of features but just as safe as anything else. Remember that they all have to pass the same standards, but some pass by a much greater margin than others ;) All helmets sold here should be ADR approved to the best of my knowledge, but some will have other endorsements such as SNELL.

Thanks for the info, just didn't want to start a new topic for something so small.... and thought someoen might have asked the question already. Trying to cover my ass :)

Well, regarding the helmets, so ADR approved is what i'm looking for.

I'm just in need of something that will protect my head, doesn't need to make me look good (colours, designs... etc). Air vents? Why do we need so many air vents? I don't think i need interchangable linen inside either :s!

Whats the rough price... for something that'll protect my head and is ADR approved.

Couple of hundred should do it easy. Get one that has a fibreglass outer shell rather than a plastic one, if you do smack your head into something the fibreglass will break off in sheets and will distribute the impact much more evenly, plastic will just bend/buckle around the point of impact. These days though it's pretty hard to buy a bad helmet though ;)

In regards to air vents and the like, unless you buy a helmet specifically for car racing, chances are it was designed with bike riders in mind. On a bike when a windscreen isn't stopping most of the air flow, air vents make a huge difference to your comfort level on a hot day, and removable liners are great for when you've sweated into them a heap and they start to get a bit smelly or greasy, or if after a few years the foam in them starts to break down or flatten. Just pull out the liner and either wash or replace it, viola, new helmet :)

    • I haven’t taken them out of the cases yet    inside the box is this packaging which is pretty much like a massive blister pack 
    • Purchased a NC MX5 a while ago Basic suspension mods done, BC coils and Whiteline sway bars  New DBA calipers, discs and pads Added some 17 x 8 Konig Decagrams with 215/45 17 PS5's Added some typical NA bolt on's, i.e. full exhaust and intake  Added 0.5ltrs with a MZR2.5 swap, nice bump in torques  Found a detachable hard top which is locked in for a colour match with my local paint shop in Feb 25, this also includes some PDR as it has received a few love taps from parking in the local shops when in the hands of my Minister for War and Finances, me, I park nowhere near other cars and typically park on the street The little thing is awesome, I drive it everywhere, it handles like a dream whether I'm up it or just cruising  But now,  because I'm a idiot, I keep looking at turbo kits....... did I mention I'm a idiot Why is dose so appealing  All of the NA 2.5 glory, well.......until sometime in 2025 anyway....🤪  
    • I would not be surprised if you are the only person on earth that has the interest/desire to do that lol.  The Haltech base map is a really good starting point, the car will fire easily and drive very well, even on mild boost levels. To me, following your advice sounds like some sort of ancient Chinese water torcher lol (this is not an insult Josh, never change <3)
    • Those car show concepts from the 2000's and 2010's like the Floria and IDx were brilliant and should've gone ahead, at least one of them. But neither Honda nor Nissan are thinking about affordable performance any more, which is truly sad.  Even if Toyota's liquid hydrogen ICE development reaches the point where it's commercially viable and the infrastructure to support it, Honda/Nissan would have to wait until Toyota allow fee access to their patents to offer it with any smaller performance models they released to take advantage of it.  
    • A sporty manual RWD coupe with a IL4 Honda engine would only be a good thing I assume we won't see anything released for a few years though, unless informal talks and designs have been going on for a few years,  and due to the current, and future, emmisions and safety requirements, I assume anything "sporty" they would do would be at least some hybrid thingie And hopefully anything they are thinking of has nice lines, without lots of plastic and fake bits hanging off it like that horrendous FK8 that looked like it was designed by a 13 year old The other issue of course in the current market is cost, currently the type R is around $70k, a twin is around $50k Meh, I'm old and grumpy and would rather buy a older model car and waste my coin on that than buying anything currently available new
