pixel8r
The biggest difference is the weight. I think the AWD is about 150-200kg heavier due to the front diff and other AWD gear. ryanismo
The biggest difference is the weight. I think the AWD is about 150-200kg heavier due to the front diff and other AWD gear. rwd would have to be a bit quicker than the awd, at least in the dry! so suspension would be same(as awd) ie, gtr fronts, gtst type rear Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/182347-rwd-vs-4wd-stagea-differences-etc/#findComment-3311957 Share on other sites

munchstagea
4WD will be quicker off the line in all conditions, with no driving ability required. I would be very surprised if you could floor a RWD Stagea off the mark with no lose of traction... So you have a weight advantage with RWD but you also need to drive it better to make it faster. Not really interested in a RWD myslef, that's why I bought one, so much traction it is ridiculous really. yokotas13
it also depends on driver and wheels in teh back I can dump the clutch at 5k with minimal traction loss Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/182347-rwd-vs-4wd-stagea-differences-etc/#findComment-3312199 Share on other sites
pixel8r
rwd > awdyou dont need to know why just that it is I'm wondering if you know why... I'm guessing you have a rwd stagea....what a surprise. Nothing wrong with either, but to state one is categorically better than the other is just giving misinformation to someone who may base their purchasing decision on whats mentioned in this thread (hopefully not!). I'm guessing more people will find more advantage from awd, but there are reasons you might prefer rwd. For me its a case of performance vs traction, and the fact that its the same as the AWD system in the GTR. You can still get enough performance from the awd after a few mods and then you have the best of both (my) criteria. Of course your decision might be based on entirely different factors. webng
Personally a car of this size and (quite) considerable weight, the thing i wanted most was traction. Considering the Attessa system doesn't even lose traction on gravel surface from stationary to foot fully planted down pretty much sums it up. Overall performance i believe is much of a muchness really, what you gain from less weight on the RWD you lose in traction compared to the AWD. EDIT: Keep in mind the AWD is also really 95% rear 5% front wheels until the rear wheels lose traction. pixel8r
All of the "which is better/faster" questions aside, I'd be interested to find out some of the other points in the original topic of this thread. 1. Are there any major differences between AWD and RWD models? (ie. different suspension etc). 2. What is the fuel economy difference between AWD and RWD? (very hard to answer this one accurately since our fuel economy figures vary quite a lot anyway). Here's my list: 1) Weight difference due to front diff/ATTESA goodies, Traction Control in the RWD, and thats all I know about. 2) Average fuel economy for AWD ranges from 11.5 and 15L/100km around town and say, ~2L/100km less on the highway. I'd be interested in hearing fuel economy figures from those with RWD model stageas. stagea34
mine is a RS s2, i think the car is 200KG less than RS4s. maybe it is my 18*9.5 wheels, she drinks 15L/100km. anyway, when wet the RS4s will preform better, but when it's dry... RS feels good since the way she uses the power. iijj
Just purchased a S2 RSV (RWD) Tiptronic in Japan. Won't see it for 10 (ish) weeks but would love to see some real data. Not dynos, quarter times! According to the british website with specs the AWD S2 is 1650kg and the RWD S2 is 1540kg - a difference of 110kg (or my BIG little brother in the passenger seat!). Sunroof models are heavier again I imagine. (Check out this website - http://www.cars-directory.net/specs/nissan/stagea/1998_8/ ) Having owned 2 R33 GTST's (5 speeds) with basic mods, and considering the power to weight should be better in the Stagea, I'll definitely be taking her down to Willowbank to check things out when she arrives. It has a RSM (Apexi) on it so I may even get an idea before the trip to Ipswich... The Stag has more mods than my other Turbo cars so it won't be a completely level playing field, but would love to see what other RWD's (and AWD's) have actually run with or without mods. The car has plenty of fruit - Impul Recaros, bodykit, 18's, hks bov, ttimer, R33GTR brembos all round, Tein Super street height adjustable coilovers, Nismo stwheel, boost gauge etc. Perf Mods include GTR cooler, Nismo exhaust, hks ebc and pod. It's really my wife's car but should make the long trips and family outings a little more enjoyable than in our current 2.2L Camry wagon! From what I've seen and read I presume the Stagea will have around 170-180rwkW on low boost with these mods!?! I'd say the Camry has about 68fwkW...... Finally, at the track, with good rubbery surface, the RWD should be closer of the line to the AWD but still would play catch up and hope that the weight catches up with it before the 402m is done! And the drivetrain on a RWD should cop less punishment too! My 2 cents worth... All theory as yet I'm afraid... iijj Edited August 30, 2007 by iijj 1 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/182347-rwd-vs-4wd-stagea-differences-etc/#findComment-3319448 Share on other sites
