Hey guys

I’m looking at buying a mate’s skyline r33 .he basically just wants to get rid of it now after having a kid and needs to settle down. He has put a lot of work into it and its making 300rwkw .my only problem with buy the car is fuel economy.Next year I will be working full time, which means I will have to drive a lot more.

The o2 sensor (the one used for regulating fuel for constant driving like on the freeway) is broken (I have been told it’s a $50 job) so he can’t give me an accurate number; at the moment it’s doing about 200ks to a tank. Does that sound about right? How much do you get from a tank? What should I get a tank? If I run the boost at about 7psi daily what kind of economy should i expect?

Modifications:

Bigger turbo (td06 25g) running 1.2bar max

Intercooler

New ecu

Hks mid lift cams

Upgraded fuel pump and injectors

Exhaust

Thanks

Ooo tough choice ey, if your THAT worried about fuel economy then you might have problems because you either

A: wont enjoy it to its full potential or B: will go broke buying fuel every second station.

Would I be right in assuming that with a new o2 sensor you should expect no more than around 250-300ks to a tank...maybe a tad more

if you drop the boost...also depends on the tune?

my car origanally made 500kms to a tank until i had a new ecu placed in my car it now makes around 300km a tank on a good day the problem is the tune which is being fixed at the moment by another tuner who knows what there doing and have it tuned for economy, 300kw is great but you will start to hate your car when you see that fuel bill

If you worried about fuel economy, then thats definetly not a car for you. I dont know if I was looking at a daily driver I doubt id be getting a skyline except for the V35 since its pretty comfy lol.

Sorry a bit off topic, but is that your car in your sig? Damn that looks sweet :P

or if your super keen on the car and its a once in a lifetime opportunity.. buy a bunky to get you around during the week and keep it as a weekend car?

to be honest even changing the o2 sensor wont make it a super fuel efficient car.. I Think juts about any straight six turbo motor driven with some enthusiasm is going to drink the juice

    • Do you think the guys in Penrith are install the E85 Kit?
    • Thanks Pac!   I will reach out to them!
    • Yes, but 2 things of the top of my head, 1. Legalities of nitrous on a street car. 2. No chop chop. I fully understand that there's much cheaper ways to make power, and whilst a wet 50 shot is fairly cheap to install, bottle fills are expensive, and bottles always need to be refilled, and nitrous also has its own inherent issues with reliability, and tuning, from my experience of others using nitrous, it doesn't take alot to lunch a engine real quick if something goes slightly wrong when spraying, if I wanted a big chunk of additional powers, a spooly boy would make alot more sense, disregarding the additional engineering, supporting mods and other logistical issues of sticking a spooly boy on a car that came naturally aspirated from factory  In the end I'm not racing for sheep stations, and I don't really care if people make more power, or are faster than me, or spend less, or more than me, the only thing the car needs to do is drive around and make me smile, which it is doing now Really, I just want a shiny new intake to look at when I'm cleaning the engine bay, and of course, some more induction doorts, and maybe even that 5kw for that elusive 200hp cherry on top that I might get If the FAB9 intake plenum, TB and air filter box thing doesn't eventuate for whatever reason, Plasmaman do one, not as fancy looking, and a fair chunk of more cash is required when including the TB and other bits and pieces that are required to install it, but, it is another option that is available to me if FAB9 one does fall down (but I really, really.....really, want the FAB9 one though) TL;DR. You want what you want
