hey guys i was just wondering

i have a 1993 32 gts4

and was just wondering , if taking the fuse out for the 4wd system in the car will or could screw anything up, for long periods of time.

just a general question that i was thinking about

if anyone could answer this for me that`d be great

you realise that an R32 GTS4 or GTR is always switching from 4wd to 2wd by itself?

they are 100% rwd until slip or enough Lateral forces are placed on the car to push some torque to the front wheels.

Look at your torque split gauge on the dash when you are driving.

if it is sitting at 0 like when you are crusing along etc, it is in rwd.

just get the switch.

there is nothing wrong with going 4wd to rwd.

So the GTS4 has ATESSA just like the GTR? I always thought they were a constant awd. Looks like I was wrong.

And yes its true what GTST says that the GTR's are 100% rwd until slip/lateral forces etc.

Huh, learn something new everyday.

the pulsar GTiR has constant 4wd... people have long been saying they have attessa etc but they are constant 4wd.

GTS4 and GTR in R32 form are 100% rwd until they loss of traction or enough forces to push torque to the fronts.

GTS4 and GTR in R33 form have always got like 10% going to the fronts and it increases with traction/forces.

R34 GTR is similar to R33

The stagea has the exact same attessa system as the GTS-4 and it isn't a real good idea to drive around in 2WD all the time because you can really stuff the clutch packs in the transfer case.

The problem is, due to the pre-emptive nature of the attessa system, the front wheels are never completely without drive, (as the stagea is based on the R33) even if no torque is being transfered as per the gauge readouts. If you do a search in the stagea section you will see that the general consensus is the only way to run 2wd is to drop the front driveshaft. We have a member that tried to just drop the fuse for a 2wd dyno run, and the whole car ended up full of smoke from the clutch packs in the transfer case.

Yep  I own a 1989 GTS4 one of the earlier ones, I run mine in 2wd mode quite a bit, just for the hell of it, it drifts nicely, not quite as good as a T because it's heavier but yeah,

And it is the same system that the GTR uses >_< as GTST says above, the GTS4 is in RWD mode a lot of the time, try flinging it into a corner(when no one is around and preferably on a closed road or driveway) and you'll see that it slides nicely for a few seconds then the FWD will kick in and you'll get a lot of grip

I'm not too sure about the Stagea, I always thought the R33 GTS4 & R33 GTR, Stagea all versions and the R34 GTR didn't like going in with the fuse pulled because the weren't using the same clutch system as the 32 model and their clutch packs start to wear...

I run my car the way it was built. Like GTST has explained, it's RWD most of the time when I'm cruising and it only gets into 4WD mode when the front start to lose traction or when I'm pushing the car a bit ( not that I've pushed my car before, bit hard being on Ls).

The 33's and 34's aren't as easy to make it into RWD for some reason. I can't remember why though. :pwned:

32 gtr and gts4 can have rwd only and abs active, pulling the fuse in the engine bay kills power to the attessa motor.

Pulling the fuse in the drivers cab kills power to the attessa module, which is also the abs module, so both go..

33 and 34 gtr, gts4, stagea, all have an attessa system that has a small amount of hydraulic preload on the transfer case clutch packs, so you have a small percentage of torque to the front wheels at all times. This combined with the faster sample rate results in a faster response in torque transfer to the front wheels, compared to the r32 version.

I quite like the nose heavy, tail happy attitude of my car in rwd.. reminds me of my old ute. only in the dry though, damn dangerous in the wet. 4wd in the wet is like rwd in the dry.. Sooo much of a difference.

Awesome :P I'll be changing my switch to the front fusebox then, well maybe i"ll have two switches:

one connected to dash fuse - for doing burnouts and warming the tyres prior to drags

one connected to under bonnet - for general RWD fun and daily driving

Yeah I love the feeling too, being that much heavier than the T and the front end being a few kg heavier it's much easier to hold the drifts and it just sits there, although it does drift a lot slower than my T, so I won't be using it on the big drift circuit, only the local drift track we have here

Instead of tapping the fuse for a switch as most people do, you can also tap the wire inside the cabin near the ECU. ATM I've got a switch next to my hazard that I can flick to choose to go to RWD. It dosen't harm the gearbox in short doses as the R32 transfer is hydraulic, and not partially engaged like the later models. This means that the R32 ATTESA is a lot laggier, but hey, thems the breaks.

I tend not to leave it in RWD mode as ATTESA is a beautiful thing when driving normally (ie not sideways or on a drag strip etc).

I'm currently playing around using a jaycar digital pulse modulator (also about $50) to vary the signals sent to the ATTESA computer so I can fine tune how it reacts, and also do a RWD->AWD->RWD transition without having to stop the car or lose ABS... without resorting to a potentiometer style knob or a ATTESA interceptor that costs an arm and a leg.

Yeah i was thinking of doing something similar, but using the potentiometer, it's just the costs that are setting me back at the moment :(

Would love to turn it up to like 30-40% Front bias in the wet though and not have to worry about it stepping out slightly when I kick the throttle

    • @GTSBoy and @joshuaho96 While I have you both in here…. A side question.    you know the padding that usually goes on a R34 GTT’s air box “snorkel”. It has this adhesive foam tape around it to give a tight fitment. But mine is non existent as shown in the pic below Is there any harm is just replacing it with this foam tape in Bunnings? My OCD is in overdrive every time I see that snorkel  https://www.bunnings.com.au/moroday-75-x-10mm-x-1-8m-adhesive-foam-roll_p4000002   just didn’t want to make a new thread just to ask this 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

    • Hey everyone, just wanted to let you know about an app I use to track the modifications, repairs, servicing etc I do to my R33 GTR. You might like to use it as well. I'm biased because my son just wrote and released it! But I think you might find it useful to... https://trackmymods.com
    • Hey everyone, been on here for a while, but never introduced myself before. 1st import was a R32 GTS Type M, then R33 GTS, now R33 GTR - each one sold to help pay for the next one. Over the years my son has seen me modify and do changes to my imports and was one of the reasons for him to build an app for car enthusiasts like us. (He can only afford a 2007 Honda at the moment, but he'll get there!) Anyway, bit of a proud Dad moment as he's released an app that I use and you all might like to as well. https://trackmymods.com
