What Holds The Gearstick Into The Box?

Embarrassingly enough, I can't remember what the hell holds the actual gear-stick itself into the manual rb20 box - I know I took something off when I took it out of the halfcut, but I can't remember what it looks like or what it does, and now the car is assembled but the gear-stick can be pulled up and out of the gearbox when in neutral...

Can anyone help?

a circlip?hidden at the bottom of shifter?

yup he's right, it's a circlip, it holds it in just where the rubber oil protecting gearboot is, use two flat headscrew drivers or circlip pliers to remove it

2 circlips actuaaly, one where you need 2 screwdrives to get out and the other requires a pair of circlips pliers

ahh but you only need to remove the bottom one, not the upper clip.

I use a pair of long nose plyers with the points bent inwards. works well

this is interesting for me as today im about to remove my 32 gtr gear box an try an drop her down (home driveway job) It's already seperated from the engine (engine is sitting in my shed), so i just need to lower it down, and trying to find out whats involved when sperating the box from the shifter.

i think they're a pull clutch so theres a srping that holds th bearing to the pressure plate diaphragm spring a big flathead in between and twist
