Hi all,

My fiance and i will be making quite a drastic move from north queensland to sydney in search of a new start, for reasons disclosed. Have lined up a job for myself at wetherill park but currently do not know where to set up base or anyone in the area. Just want to know any good locations around that area or close by, and anything else we need to know. Be making the move with in the next 2 weeks.

Anyone that has suggestions on a good location, or who lives in the area, please let me know. Would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks!

Hills area is good and plenty of Skyline people over there. If you wanted to stay close to work, then Greystanes is pretty good and is 2 mins from Wetheril ParK; or the new estate area next to Greystanes called Pemulwuy. All new houses and townhouses with new shopping centre etc. Both Hills area and Greystanes/Pemulwuy only have buses as public transport, but I am guessing that you have cars anyway.

The only problem with Pemulwuy is the risk that - depending on the section of it you choose - you may be living in a shoebox, may only have street parking, and may be subjected to strata. Otherwise, it's a nice new area and very close to all the main shopping regions. And, as Charlie mentioned, Wetheril Park is 2mins away...

What Charlie said..

What rukus said about Charlie

Seriously though best thing to do before you come is work out how much you want to spend on rent.

for a apartment is can cost upto 400pw

for a house well that can go upto 700+ pw depending on where you live.

Now remember the furthur out you live the longer it will take to get to work Duh! though remember there are allot of people that live in Sydney too but the living will be cheaper some what.

If you give us a rough idea how much you are thinking of paying rent we might be able to help out alittle easier.

We'll have around 300 a week to spend on rent. A unit will be ideal for now, just until we get our feet on the ground. To give a perspective of rent here at the moment.... For a run down 1 bedrroom unit goes for about 3 - 400 dollars a week, and houses are quite a bit more. Doesn't really help living in a town full of money hungry coal miners. With each rental property here, there is about 25 different families or individuals applying for the same place which doesn't give much hope for us.

Thanks for the input and if you have any other recommendations, please let me know.

Thanks all!

Many areas of Sydney are also experiencing close to zero rental vacancy at the moment also, so you will find in most cases that the Sydney rental market is just as tight as what you have described in QLD and in many areas both close to the city and out North West, its not uncommon to find lines of people queuing up for rental properties that become available.

Wood anyone recommend marrylands? There seems to be a few nice appartments for about $280 a week.

Cheers?

There are a few nice houses in Greystanes that would fit your budget:

Rental list for Greystanes

Merrylands has better shops and transport as it has a railway station/more buses/taxi ranks; and it also has plenty of unit if that is what you're after. Greystanes is predominantly houses and townhouses.

my bro has been traveling to sydney from wollongong everyday for the past six years, he lived in sydney for 3 months until his lease ran out then moved back to the wollongong area cause he realised that even though he made around 700 a week around 400 was going to the rent( that was 6 years ago). now he lives here, it's not as crazy as sydney but your rent will be hell of alot cheaper and all it will be is a train ticket, train ride and 1 hour less sleep a morning.

move to wollongong and train it up, but i don't know about the train line to the area you want.

thanks everyone... i really appreciate it... its just so hard going somewhere i have never been before!!! from what i have been looking at online there seems to be a lot of places.... even with the people ratio difference... if we didnt have the skylines, i wouldnt really care where we lived... as a stiletto is always a good weapon of self defence :D:) but since we do have them i have to worry about it. i start on the 17th september down there so time is running out... but like, would it just be cheaper in the short term to get a cheap unit anywhere and train it or bus it to work until we sort it out... cause tolls are pretty expensive i hear...

thanks again!

I still think Greystanes would be good for you if you worked in Wetherill Park. It has plenty of decent houses at good prices or you could go for the new Pemulwuy/Nelsons Ridge estate as all the homes are new with a good (younger) population.

    • Hey all, not sure how active SAU is anymore but will ask away anyways. Just wanted to get some experience on the 2008 model GTR CBA model.  I've hit that age in my life (43) where I'm like fk it time to get my dream (midlife crisis) car. Looking at importing one in and seeing if these can be reliable if the main flaws are fixed up. Plan is to keep money aside to do the following straight off the bat to future proof it: * install a stage 1 rebuilt trans with all new bits and pieces.  * install a new Bellhousing from the later model GTRs. Or potentially an upgraded stronger version like MAD or ATR. Besides the above two things and typical maintenance items anything else you'd recommend doing.   Been speaking to a few people and the engine on these are very reliable apparently. But keen on the view of the community here. Hoping to find a nice grade 4.5 with low mileage in Grey. I'd go black but swirls too easy. Look forward to your responses and feedback. Cheers
    • Do Alan and Keith work on Skylines now? I remember buying stuff from them when I owned my Ralliart Lancer a few moons ago. Definitely genuine guys and be excellent if they dealt with the skyline platform as well.
    • Hey all, I'm Gaston from Sydney's West.  I was a member on here when I was a younger lad and owned a mint R33 GTS-T. Ended up selling it and getting married having kids (yadda yadda) we all know how the story goes. Now I'm back with the intention to get my midlife crisis (dream) car ... a R35 GTR.  You'll see me about asking questions and searching the forums. Good to be back and can't wait to get back an Import again.
    • I have to put something here in order to post the photos. From what I could gather there's more enthusiasm for modified cars now than there has been for years. There were probably more younger people there than older (me included lol) which was a good sign.  It did seem like the record least amount of representation of the 90's era hero cars on display though. Like maybe one or two examples of S-chassis Nissans, and maybe 3 or 4 R-chassis. By comparison there were a lot of Civics from that era but in all there were about 10 - 12 EG/EK Civic Type R.  Euro exotics are always there in large numbers, led by Liberty Walk...... say what you will about kids using markers to scribble on a Ferrari F40, it did seem like a stunt to infuriate Ferrari enthusiasts, or Ferrari itself. I wonder if there's something more to it. Either way LBWK have done some heinous things to a Lamborghini Miura this time. They should stop now.
    • Engines and drivelines are not war stoppers for me mate, busted arse bodies and un-obtainium parts and panels are though Both cheap Brumbies I looked at had trashed tubs and a fair bit of rust
