  • Is the standard A-pillar boost gauge legal over here? If not, how can I get it off?
  • The said boost gauge isn't working. When I turn the car on, it moves to 0... but it doesn't move off zero as I drive. Any ideas?
  • How can I get the JDM radio working?
  • How much for a set of R34 GTR rims (or copies) nowadays?

TIA.

The pillar gauges aren't legal. They're usually taken off when the car's in compliance as far as I know.

Does the gauge go to zero when the engine has started or does it only go to zero when you're driving?

Then why do all complianced JDM S15's have them? They don't remove them at all. Also, when the car is registered the RTA will do a physical check on the car to assess its road worthiness.

I was wrong. :)

they are legal, its a factory component. Check that no hoses in the engine are loose, my boost gauge (just the factory one in the instrument cluster) was sitting at zero once when I was driving, the hose that connects to the map sensor had come off...

Thanks for the responses.

I'll leave the A-pillar gauge on for the inspection.

The gauge moves to zero when I turn the car on and stays on zero when driving. I'm not sure where in the engine bay I should be looking. I found one electrical wire that looks like its not connecting, but wasn't sure if the problem is electrical or just a loose vacuum tube.

Any ideas re. the radio? Or do I need to buy another one? It's an aftermarket Kenwood with a CD stacker.

for the radio you have to buy a (i think it's called) an expander. most compliance places put them in the car if you ask. they basically alow you to use the jap radio in australia. Someone else on here should be able to confirm what they are called.

look on vic roads for the pillar guage thing... there are all sorts of crazy measurements that come into play...

as far as i could find, they are only illegal when they block the feild of vision from 70 cm above the seat in the middle of its range

I thought all pillar gauges were illegal, but the JDM S15's did come from factory like that so....

P1E,

I have exactly the same problem (on my R34 GTT) with the boost gauge on the A pillar, as you.

When the car is stopped, (key out) the gauge is reading -20.

When car is started and all through the running rev range on the road, the gauge stays at 0.

As far as I know, all R34 GTT cars with the A pillar gauges, are complianced and made road legal with the gauges in place as a factory item.

I'd like to know how you solved the boost gauge problem, if resolved please.

Mine is going back to the import company for rectification, and I will let you know what they find.

Sounds like a common problem.
