System Isnt Working :(

i hooked up my amp/subbies today

and the amp wont turn on

i have the cable from battery to amp via a fuse

an earth from amp to bolt in car boot

rca cables all connected

remote controll connection connected

i start up the car

amp wont turn on :)

chance of a faulty amp perhaps :S?

When I hooked up my amp and sub it was working fine. Went for my first drive with it in and it was cutting out every now and then. I checked the fuse for the amps power wire and the fuse was a little loose in the holder at one end. I was able to just squash the ends in and now it bites down hard on the fuse and haven't had a prob since.

I have a similar issue at present.

I have a Kenwood KAC-8103D 1000Watt 2 channel amp and i can't get the thing to start when the headunit turns on.

Heres the weird bit;

I work at a school so I have access to cool stuff in the science lab like 12volt power supplies. I hooked one of these up the amp and then bridged the power and remote together to get it to switch on. The power led flashes. Hooked up a voltmeter (cheapy science one but does the job) and it sits ib about 11-11.5 volts when the light is on and then jumps up to 12.5 volts when the light goes out.

Thinking this was strange, i went and got another power supply and connected it directly to the remote wire and now the power led stays on solid. I dunno how I am going to overcome this in the car as there is only one power source.

Something else that got my attention is that the amp WILL NOT run when I set the voltage on the power supply to 12volts or 10volts, and will only run when the power supply is set to 8volts... Also the amp will turn on when the remote wire is set at 2volts.

I think my amp may be playing silly buggers with me, but thats what i get when I buy the amp from a pawn broker.

I dont think this is a fault amp, but hey i could be wrong. Id check to make sure that your earthed correctly. If that isnt the problem id check to make sure that there is power getting to the amp. If that doesnt work, check the fuse. If that dont work go to the place where u brought it from and get them to install it. Also read ur warrenty... little tip.

hey man, have you tried connecting a manual switch to the amp instead of running the singal through the remote wire just run a manual switch that can be turned on manualy by yourself.. and see if that works.

Ok, hooked the amp up just to power and bridged the power and remote to turn it on. And still nothing. Amp flashed and made a ticking noise. Then the light started blinking more rapidly without the ticking noise.

Moved the earth to the another point in the car, where the battery is also earthing to so i don't think its an earthing problem.

We also tried the amp in a working setup and had the same issues.

*Never buys amps from pawn broker again*

Also, not quite sure on what gauge of wiring is there. There is one big thick one running from the battery into a 2 distrabution block (to power 2 amps) and the wire from them is a bit thinner. Same wire I have seen used in every other system i've seen

      I've been pondering this, I really enjoy the convertible thing, for me, it's like riding a motorbike, without all the issue of riding a motorbike, mainly, my old sore arthritic joints getting beaten up, and, being able to do it in shorts and a T-shirt and not needing a helmet and all the other gear required, especially like wearing jackets and pants in the summer, or needing 6 layers of cloths in the winter, or not having wet weather gear handy when your 100km away from home on the bike when it decides to start raining As for the hard top and its Coupe look, whilst I do lose all that open top feeling that I really enjoy, from my experience with the NB with a detachable hard top, the cabin is a much nicer place to be, the difference in noise for one, a hard top quietens down the interior, alot, with the soft top up or down it's pretty noisy, which, after 5 or so hours, can get tiring But, as you stated, the detachable hard top totally changes the look of the car, in a really good way, and for me, the look of a detachable hard top is so much better than the PRHT which looks more like a after thought with its weird bulbous rear roof line For me, the minimal effort of putting in on, or storing it after removing it, is well worth the time and effort for the look alone And yes, I'm sure the next owner will be grateful for it as well.......

      I get into huffs with people when I suggest the MX5 looks so much better as a coupe than it does as convertible. Pretty sure I don't prefer the convertible version of anything. Good job on the hardtop! The next buyer will appreciate.

      IMO wrap does have its uses, but like you said, quality wrap, and professional installation, would probably cost want a quality paint job does, but, the paint, if maintained, is basically for life, and much easier to touch up if required  In other news: it's pissing down here, with thunder, lightning and only some small hail "at this stage", luckily all "my" cars are undercover  I've also been contacted by a guy in Newcastle about the SS, he said he will come down next weekend for a look, we'll see how that transpires I guess 🫰

      Nah, I'm not an a-hole, ha ha!   I do like the colour match. Some of the carbon fibre wraps are quite freaking horrible. There's one a local company I know uses, and it looks damn good! Also very very expensive per metre to buy! ha ha ha It might be cheaper to respray the roof than use the good CF Wrap, ha ha!
