Hi all, ive joined this forum as i am looking at buying a R32 GTR or a Stagea RS4 S Series 2.

I have just test driven a Stagea RS4 S and came back and found oil on the bottom of the transfer case. some old and black, but also some very clean oil. The mechanic at the shop said something about the eng oil filters leaking on the AWD models but the engine and gearbox was dry. It is from a dealer so im sure they would fix it (or patch it up) but i'm a lil cautious as this will be my 1st import. It also didnt WOW me with power. I drive a 4.0L EF Falcon now thats got all the bolt ons and puts about 110kw to the ground and the Stagea didnt feel as quick as it. Is it just a lack of torque from the lil 2.5L turbo deceiving me?

Its an extremely clean car with no rattles, noises and looks to have been very well looked after and has no mods at all.

Are there any issuse with these gearboxes?

Can they be replaced with GTR boxes or the likes?

Im unsure of the forum rules on posting commercial cars for sale so i will leave the yard nameless at this stage

afaik the awd versions never had an issue with oil leaking from the filter (unless it wasn't tightened) so I would call shennanigans on the dealer for that, besides, if it is the transfer case that is leaking it would be trans oil NOT engine oil anyway. The gearboxes in these cars are usually trouble free, but the problem you have with an oil leak there isn't really a gearbox issue - its an ATESSA issue and whilst these too are usually trouble fre units (if treated with respect and care) if it is shagged there is a lot of $$$ involved in fixing them, just like a GTR

As for the comparison to a foulcoon? Try comparing a std falcon to a standard stagea for a true comparison. A stagea with a few bolt ons will chew up and spit out a 6 cyl falcon no worries. Not to mention the security of 4WD. IMO the falcon could never handle as well as a falcon either(or commonwhore)
