Strange carbon brakes front and rear.

post-a231582-IMGP2029.JPG

paul, are these disc's purely for drag or suitable for circuit?

what is the main advantage here, weight or stopping power? they use carbon dics's on race bikes but they have an outer heat shield which retains heat otherwise they dont work well when the carbon is cold

Drag only Marko...weight saving and awesome stopping power. Pulling up from 240km/h generates the heat required...only good for one or two big stops.

is that a realy cost effective way of doing it then or is that basically your only option. part and parcel.

with small rims for the drag radials big brakes are not able to be fitted. They are heavy also and are unsprung weight. It can shed some valuable kilo's without haing to hack the car up. Im struggling to pull the car up with the stock R32 brakes as well. The parachute will be fitted but pulling it and packing it after every run is a pain also. The brakes came at a good price and will allow me to 'donate' the GTR brakes to my S13 project car.

  • 4 weeks later...

Ran 9.5 last night at Willowbank at a lowly 126 MPH. The clutch air gap was too small locking me out of 4th gear in the deep end. Ran 114 MPH to 1/2 track and 60'ed a 1.37. So to run a 9.5 with 20 MPH+ washed off the terminal speed is rather encouraging.

Big thanks to Mark and the team at Godzilla.

The brakes and chute arrived in QLD today and will be fitted before the next meet.

Bring on Jambo!

fark yeah - it almost sounds like u could crack an 8 :D

considering it only put on 12 MPH from 1/2 track onwards and normally puts on about 34 MPH id say that pass was a VERY LOW 9.

8's have always been the plan.

once we get a few consistent clean passes out of it we can throw a bit more boost at it and see.

any footage or pics?

Just Dave took plenty of snaps. Someone may have taken a vid...but no-one in our crew.

Also big thanks to all you guys on here for the support and interest in the car...its much appreciated.

cheers

drag radials?? WTF?? parachute?? WTF?? Small rims?? WTF?? is all this air lock transmission crap and shit really worth it to go from 9's to 8's??

give me a gtr that can drive to the track, belt out a 9, and drive home again anyday over a fully prepared 8 sec drag car.

lol...i was planning to drop the car where i was staying at a friends place at Birkdale and drive the car to Wakerley this morning in the same spec it was ran last night. Mark was kind enough to open the shop at 11pm last night so i could drop it off at Godzilla.

The car is actually nicer on the road with all the new mods except the whine from the dogbox...but once your in 4th you dont hear it as its 1:1.

Thanks for your post...nice.

EDIT: ill be kind enough to answer your question...f**ken oath its worth it!

Dirt , if your trap speed is normally around 148 mph i would say a perfect run would have been a 9.1 ...& the 60ft seems to be on the money.

You are very close to the 8 sec barrier & if the car can 60ft even better i would say a 8.9 is on the cards...you seem to be making enough power to do so.

Congrats on a very nice car that is also that quick & hope to see you get the elusive 8 sec time card..it wont be to far off !

Im all for keeping it as much a streeter as possible too.

Cheers ezy, that track was a street meet...next weekend is Jamboree which will be a full prep so id say the 60 may fall even further.

great to hear the new setup looks like running it's potential. good luck with jambo its great to see sau-ers competing at a national level

thanks Dunc's, third time lucky with the new set-up. We found a small problem that took 5 mins to repair, it instantly rectified the cars inability to launch properly. Fixed it and bingo the car runs a number. A little way to go yet but we are getting on top of it.

i always though people had dog box's for clutchless shifting ? so no clutch air gap keeping you out of fourth

maybe also need some better quality hose clamps maybe wiggins clamps

    • I did a skidpan night at SMSP this week, it was much cheaper than $350. But yeah, you need to slap an LSD in that thing.  I put an OS Giken in the 370Z and it's f**king MARVELOUS even compared to Nissan's viscous LSD. So you're saying it's free now that it's a housing estate? 😂
    • Nah, the car seems to run exactly as it did prior, in saying this it does "seem" to be better down low, like more eager to rev, but that may be 100% placebo effect from intake noise But, I'm not worried about it at all, in the end it is a fairly low compression NA engine that has a well shrouded intake,  if it is getting hotter IAT I cannot notice anything negative performance wise from the seat of my pants thrashing it about on the street or sitting in traffic, so meh, car now now makes induction noise so I'm happy
    • Do you have an IAT sensor? It's worth checking it to see. You may be suprised how little gap you actually need to flood your engine with hot air. (I tape up my airbox for a reason) :p
    • @KinkstaahKrinkle paint the "silver" alloy, not the red filter frame Engine bay heat won't be a issue worth worrying about as the silver alloy blocks it off on 3 sides, as for the top, the bonnet seals most of it and the big OEM CAI intake snorkel is still fitted in its original position  I will head into Clark's Rubber when I have some time to grab some pinch weld to tidy up the alloy after I paint it As for performance, I honestly wasn't expecting any, the only reason I got it is because the intake noise sounds cool to my old ears when I'm feeding it the beans Sometimes it's the silly things you do in in life that gives the most fun, and I do love anything that makes cool car noises In other news: I survived 4 nights at sea with Jackie not throwing me over board, holidays are continuing now as we are currently chilling at the Beachcomber in Toukley, after taking the coast roads from Sydney in the MX5, top down all the way, Toukley is where I spent a good deal of my youth holidaying during the summer months, there's lots of reminiscing going on,  and lots of beaches and old houses to visit Next on the list is to head to Batemans Bay for a few days, but we will take the Commodore out to stretch its legs, then Commodore hasn't really moved for months
    • There’s probably people who’d like to do it and then when it comes to putting their hands in their pockets they’ll all disappear into the shadows
