Hey guys. I'm going to be moving the family to Bathurst, and I've decided to get a more 'Bathurst' type car to save some money on insurance and also repairs as roos are a fair bit more common in the bush. So I'll be putting my car on the market in the next few weeks or so. Let anyone out there know who's looking for a nice stagea that's been looked after to keep an eye out for mine :)

cheers guys

Why get rid of the Stagea just coz you're moving out to Bathurst? (I'm in Orange) and I've only ever seen 1 out here & I'm guessing they were on holidays! if moving is your only reaon, then think again, insurance in terms of location out here drops your premiums by about $100 over Sydney.

By 'Bathurst type car' do you mean a commodore :) or a Ford... or a lumpin 4wd?

You only hit roos if you dont see them, I've lived here for 12 years and only ever hit 1, on dusk @ 120kph with a bullbar! They're more likely to run into you.

the roads are good enough out here... mind you dont go much further than Cowra or Orange or you'll find all sorts of new rattles...

Anyway, dont just get rid of the car because you're moving to the bush, we could do with some more imports out here :)

Good luck none the less!

I also am assuming that "Bathurst type car" is meaning a commodore or a falcon. If it really was a real Bathurst car it'd be pretty awesome to drive on a track but likely very painful as a daily driver... :)

My only favourite bathurst car is of course the R32 GTR (the original "godzilla"). It was in a league of its own (then, not so much now) - so much so that the australian public packed up their toys and said "we're not gonna play with you any more".

Rather than come up with some decent competition they decided instead to ban the outright winner. I know the last race was controversial due to the AWD advantage but the other races weren't. Anyway, not that there's anything to debate. Cant change history :D

Was wondering if you might be buying one of those...(but knowing thats not what you meant :( )

If you are remotely interested in the real story of the GRM R32 GTR I strongly suggest you grab a copy of the latest Australian Muscle Car magazine. It has a brilliant story on the history of Gary Rogers and the story of his success. For instance, did you know that the CEO of Nismo actually rang Gary Rodgers and asked him not to bring his cars to Japan to race at Mt Fuji because they could only get 550hp out of their cars but good old aussie ingenuity was pulling 625hp out of the same engine, and the japs were a bit worried about getting whupped by their own cars on their own tracks. :)

The story about the creation of the V8 Supertaxi's is actually a bit more involved than that too, Steve. The australian public were fervent followers of Dick Johnson at the time who was racing the F5000 Sierra, it had more to do with the (now failed) WTCC and them using Bathurst as a round of their own championship whilst causing massive barriers for the australians that were trying to compete on the world stage. I have heard rumours that they asked Larry Perkins and co for an entrance subscription to the series that was worth more than their yearly budget! It makes their 4th placing at Spa even more impressive IMO

I lived in Bathurst all through school, and only moved to Canberra for Uni. I've done my time here, and now I want to go back to my roots I guess. By Bathurst type car I do mean a commodore or falcon. the insurance is about $1000 cheaper for me to own one of those than the Stagea. I'm planning to get an R32 GTSt to compete in hill climbs and track days. I won't be leaving the SAU scene just yet.

I've only ever hit 1 roo as well, but that was in a 1971 kingswood and it didn't do too much damage. In the Stagea it would almost be a right off at 100kph. I don't want the hassle of repairing a Stagea in Bathurst, so far from any import dealer/mechanic. I'm also keen to get back into motorbike riding out bush, and therefore getting a ute. I could always tow a bike trailer with the Stagea, so we'll see what happens. I've got to do a little bit more work to it before I put it on the market.

I'll be thinking it over the next 2 weeks whether or not to sell, but at the moment I'm looking to part ways. I think I was one of the first few guys on here with a Stagea, and I've had my fun with it. I'll be upset when I sell it, but you can't have everything forever.

Yeah thanks for that. :) I do tend to be a little too protective of nissan imports when compared to the aussie motorsport scene...and your explanation probably makes a lot more sense. I wasn't there (and at the time had no idea what a skyline even was lol). I have a PDF of a summary of all of the races the 32 competed in. It is very different to the v8 scene these days and I must say the reliability of the cars now is MUCH better than back then. It sounds like just finishing the race was an achievement :P

I dont hate the local-made cars - I just feel that more diversity would create better racing - but many people beg to differ on this...and its also too risky for them to change the format from something that works (and pulls huge crowds) to something that hasn't been done before. :)

i'm thinking about mov'in to bathurst so i can just fang my stagea around and around and around , and as for wallaby's(kangaroo) my wife cleaned one up the other night(popped front bar at 1st screw drivers side ,smashed bar indicator, pushed out corner bar mesh, put it back together and you can't pick it(tuff stag) commodore i bet it would have been smashed........ anyway goodluck in bathurst and good motoring.

leigh.

ps she's not drivi'n my car again.

Make that 2 more leaving the Stagea stabels. Although I'm not moving I do want a cheaper car to insure, run, repair as I want to start investing. As much as I love my stag I've had my time, I do plan to get another one some day (prob be an M35 by then) but I want to sell before prices drop even further. So if anyone in QLD is after one too its adverised in all the usual places. (sorry for the little hijack :P but seeing as I'm a few thousand k's away I didn't think it would matter  )

Hey Andrew, like everyone has said, it's sad to hear you're thinking of selling up. Is it not worth keeping the car when you move to Bathurst?

I'll be in Canberra (well, staying in Queanbeyan) next weekend, as I'm helping out with the SAU-NSW Texikhana at the Sutton Road complex.

I wanted to participate in that, but because I'm selling I thought I'd relax the wagonater. I'll be in Bathurst house hunting that weekend actually.

Just as an enquiry, I wanted to advertise my car for $20k, if you look at my list of mods could everyone give me an idea of whether or not I'm dreaming? Redbook shows the 1996 Stagea as being worth between $11k and $14k:

1996 Nissan Stagea RS FOUR-V (Manual Converted)

190,000km

2.5L Turbo ATTESA AWD

Dual airbags

Leather Interior

Electric seats

Dual Sunroof

Tinted windows

Boot protector

Luggage divider

Aftermarket grill and eyelids

Side, Front and Rear skirts

Body coloured bumpers

Custom Stagea floor mats

Tow bar

AUTECH replica rear spoiler

3 point alarm/imobiliser

Modifications:

GCG High-flow turbo

Turbotech boost valve (10psi)

18” Shadow Chrome Wheels (gutter rash)

TEIN adjustable coilovers

Whiteline adjustable sway bars

Adjustable rear camber arms

GReddy Front mount intercooler

K&N High flow panel filter

Custom radiator air guide

Pioneer MP3 CD player

Pioneer 2 x 250W Kevlar splits front

Pioneer 2 x 280W 4-way rear

Turbo Timer

3” Turbo back Fujitsubo exhaust (quiet)

Bosch 040 fuel pump

Nissan Stagea Series 2 tail lights

VDO Boost, Oil pressure & Oil Temp gauges (Not fitted)

Manual Conversion:

R33 GT-R 5 speed manual gearbox conversion

Nissan Stagea Series 2 Manual interior

R34 GT-R Brass button single plate clutch

It’s still missing some minor interior parts to complete the conversion, which I can supply part numbers for. I have an R33 Series 2 ECU as well as the auto Stagea ECU is still installed.

Just so everyone knows this is not a "For Sale" pitch, it's just a general enquiry. I'm very, very happy to keep the car after the amount of effort I've put into it.

Cheers,

Leshy

I think 20k is definitely doable Leshy.

I'd imagine a S1 manual.. standard would probably go for around the $16k mark, as the S2 manuals are still going for quite a bit more. Considering your car has quite a few modifications, you should be able to get another $4k out of them.

Either way best of luck with it.

Yeah I would agree $20K is worth it (should PM ska and see what his went for?) but its always been a hard market trying to sell a stagea. Well it is here in QLD anyway. There are always so many in yards that just sit there and I myself am trying to sell mine atm and haven't had any serious enquiries. But (probably like yourself) am starting to rethink AGAIN about selling, its hard to put a "market happy" price on a car that cost you so much more (money and your own time) but most people aren't prepared to pay for that. I've sunk over 6K in the last 6 months, paid $19K for it about 18months ago and have it up for $12K (or $13.8K with RWC etc...) so would think you've probably spent much more than that.

When you do advertise it may help to put up rough prices it cost you for each thing you did so people have a rough idea how much it would cost to do all over again themselves, every hagglers favourite line is....."mate most S1 Stagea's I've been looking at are more like $13 to $14.5K these days, and I could get a S2 Manual in Japan for $18K. Not even giving a thought about the extra costs of importing that pop up or the fact that even if they purchased a stock $13K stagea it would probably cost them that again to pay for the parts and labour that it cost you to get your ride to where it is today when they could just shut up, cough up the dough and enjoy in an instant what you took ages to achieve.

Hehehe and I wonder why I'm re thinking about selling :(

anywho enough of my ranting :)
