Hmmm, as above, I've got two questions for those in the know...

1. I'm getting a Bosch 044 in a few weeks time to replace my dying standard pump, and I'm wondering how hard/easy it is to mount it in the tank, and what I would require to put it in and wire up a nice fat power feed; and

2. I still haven't bothered to wire up my gauges, basically because I haven't yet found a good place to feed the wires through the firewall. Can anyone suggest a spot (or two) in particular? I've got the boost, oil pressure and oil temp sensors on the intake (driver's) side of the bay, and exhaust temp sensor feed on the other side.

Thanks in advance!

i hope the zip ties are resistant to petrol.....i say clamps FTW

what power outputs are you looking for nick.

the bosch 984 has a hose end on the bottom, is shorter than the 044 and flows a bit more than an 040.

the 044 is a little tight in the tank of an R33 but i have no idea about stagea fuel tanks.

alternatively the higher output walbro is smaller and easier to fit or perhaps a nismo pump from nengun.

the 044 is a great pump for its flow rates but you shouldn't need it. so i would select any of the above and whichever one is easiest to fit. time = money

the stagea setup looked identical to r33 to me, so anything that works for them will work. Mine is cable tied in the gtr and it has been fine, including during the big crash at targa. And I've never had trouble starting with the missing check valve.

Re the wiring its actually really easy. Take off the drivers side front wheel and remove the inner guard lining (be really careful with the clips they are pretty old by now. You will see a big opening to the engine bay (comes out near the throttle cable) and there is a big rubber grommet with a loom running through it into the car, it comes out in the cabin above the accelerator

Thanks for the replies, gents.

I'm getting the 044 at a REALLY good price, so I figured I might as well upgrade now with plenty of room to move in the future should I decide to go over the usual modification path. I'm hoping that the bracket doesn't have to be modified too much, but I'm guessing the 044 is physically larger than the factory pump.

As far as cables for the gauges go, that looks like a nice option, Duncan. I want to avoid drilling holes if I can. Either way, I'm not looking forward to hunting under the dash and carpet for where the hole(s) is going to be.

don't worry its dead easy to find - once you've seen where it is from the wheel well side it will be easy to find in the interior to - the main engine bay loom goes through there its about 10cm across

yes i agree, use hoseclamps instead of zipties if you can, and the 044 or 040 will fit no worries i posted a pic or two in one of the other threads on the subject (i think the thread was about the 040 pump) so search and you will see how well it fits in the cradle. Wiring is simple as said and finding the grommet is simple because the hole is huge and under the foot area on the drivers side closest to the accelerator.

Dude, I just upgraded my fuel pump, and it's as easy as it sounds. Get a hose clamp (76mm) and you'll be sweet. Just use the bottom part of the fuel pump assembly and it'll work alright. If not, give me a call (0419004274) and I'll give you a hand with anything as I've done the whole thing before.
