Hi folks, I'm a long time skyline enthusiast but a brand new owner. I finally took the plunge and bought a 95 R33 GTR V-Spec. I've had the car about a month now and have a few questions about the operations and if things are normal or not. My car is pretty heavily modified, but very well done IMO.

1) The electric door lock switch on the driver's door only operates the passenger side lock - is this normal or should it operate both locks? When I lock/unlock the driver's door the passenger works the same.

2) Does the GTR come with rear guards inside the rear fenders? Mine are missing and you hear all the rocks hitting the bare metal. I'm worried about creating rock chips and rust.

3) There is a 'clunk' if I take off moderately coming from the rear suspension. I'm still getting used to the noise of the front wheels engaging and the vibration it creates. So I'm just trying to find out if it is "normal" or if I need to have it checked out.

I'm really loving the car. Without a doubt the best car I've ever owned. I can't help but smile every time I get in it.

Thanks folks.

I still have a stupid grin on my face every time I drive my car :P

Where abouts you located mate? Vic?

1. Mine is the same

2. I'm pretty sure there's plastic guards in there.. can't remember now I'll have to check it next time

3. Worn bushes? Does it happen on bumpy roads as well?

I don't get any vibration when the front wheels "kick in", very nice and smooth. Are all the tyres the same size and width?

Any pics of your new ride? Post em up!!

Enjoy your new car, take good care of it and it'll take care of you

Thanks mate. Am in NSW. Actually bought the car from these forums so you folks should recognise it.

Doesn't "clunk" when driving only when taking off. Might get under there and check the bushes. Tyres are all matches so that isn't a prob. Interesting to hear you don't feel the vibration when the front engages. I'll have to monitor that more closely too.

My new Pride and Joy:

number 3 sounds like the pinion bush is gone. i have an r32 gtr and assuming the 33 is the same there are 2 bushes between the front of the rear diff housing where it mounts to the sub frame. i recently replaced mine, before that had bad clunking on take off.

The nissan bushes are expensive and only rubber, i got aftermarket nolethane bushes, cheaper and better. Most suspension places should have them.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll have to check underneath and make sure everything is OK. Funny that they didn't put a solenoid on the Driver's door. If I upgrade to an alarm with Keyless entry guess I'll have to buy the solenoid.

That's right, I had to get the extra solenoid or watever put in when my alarm was fitted.

Hey Pezhead,

Thats good you sorted out the "clunk" but in regards to the vibration when your fronts turn on, you probably want to get that checked out. Ive got a 32 GTR and it is very smooth like dilmah said, I mainly only know the fronts have turned on from the front torque guage going up and that my rears arent spinning like it would in my 31 with that much power :D

Cheers!

Gagz

the only other time I know that the front wheels have kicked in (other than looking at the gauge) is if the road surface is rough (like some intersections) or wet and the front start spinning as well, sometimes you'll get torque steer and the car will jump around a bit. But i'm guessing that's not what you're experiencing, unless you've got a shitload of power and can spin it even in the dry :D

It might just be a combination of the way my car is set up. I have noticed that when I start on a hill the fronts engage and the only way to tell is that the gauge moves. The car has a very grabb-y dual plate clutch and well, a fair amount of power. I'm sure I could spin all four if I really tried (but I'm no hoon). I think it is just that the few times I've really taken off hard the clutch really grabs which makes it feel like the fronts surge more (I'm sure it is all four).

The previous owner did a full rebuild of the motor with some VERY nice bits. That's one of the main reasons I bought the car.

I'm still in my ease in period so am just taking it very easy getting used to the car.

Thanks guys!

I guess I do need some hints on what is going on with the 4WD. Twice now it has kicked in and chattered like clutch chatter or some kind of "racheting" - quite odd. Normally it is very smooth going around corners but never gets above 10% that way. I have a couple of big hills on the way home and starting from a dead stop in traffic it hit about 30% and did the wierd noise.

Is there a good way to check the Atessa and force it to come on? Are hills the only way to do it where it really kicks in?

Thanks guys.

You don't need a solenoid on the driver's side - the key is doing the work!

Most alarms will come with the solenoid for the driver's side. It piggy-backs on the connecting rod.

Hmm, starting off on the hill from my house today the car hit well above 40% and I didn't even notice until I looked down at the gauge. I think it might have something to do with low voltage. Some days my car is solid 13.6v and others it drops to 12.6v. The strange behaviour seems to be on the low voltage days.

I need to get a rebuilt alternator with higher amps I think.

if the tyres, etc are cold it will tend to do that.

also if you are turning at the same time.

i don't think i've ever seen mine go more than 10% (or whatever it's measured in)

but on a gtr with n1 turbos, it always hit 50% :ninja: that was awesome though  but also his tyres weren't so good.
