R31 Lsd Options

Hi guys,

I have a toyota sprinter AE86, and i have just got a new LSD for it.

It is a R31 disc brake (borgwarner) 3.9 lsd rear end, professionally cut down and modified to suit the sprinter, Fully reconditioned with all new parts.

It has not yet been put in the car. The guy i got it off, had the work done, but never put it in his ae86 because the shell caught fire when the car was getting fully resprayed. Unlucky bloke. He paid $2600 for it to be done, i bought it off him for $1800.

I got it yesterday, and i posted a topic on www.drivingclub.com (AE86 forum). I then got a reply, saying those lsd's are shithouse, and i should try to get a better centre for it. He suggested Kaaz. So, i came to this site hoping someone may have some info or an answer for me

yeah if its the cone type lsd centre they arent the best of units. i installed a kaaz centre into a turbo vl about 2 months ago and there needs to be some extensive mods made to make it fit. i had to grind down the pinion teeth to get it to fit and it took a while to get it 100% otherwise the pinion hit on the centre as it is a much larger unit. if you plan on getting one i would get someone who knows exactly what there doing to get it done right the first time. good luck
