After reading alot about clutch problems in R33's on these very forums, I do belive what I'm experiancing is clutch slipping, very bad clutch slipping. Now, I'm not a mechanic by any means (actually a sparky =P).

To describe what's going on, here's the run down:

It's a stock 1993 R33 Skyline - edging 80,000kms, almost completely unmodded except for the turbo timer that came with it and 255/40's on it.

It's just running terrible, locks into gear fine on the gearbox but when 'putting the foot down' it revs right out before biting in.

Right this second I went out and did the 'put the handbrake on, put it in fourth, rev to 2,000 and release the clutch' yeah, I got the clutch out without stalling the car (while keeping it at a constant 2,000).

Right after that, I could smell/see clutch smoke and the clutch pedal stayed half depressed for a few metres up the road before popping out again. For a few gear changes it seemed good as new again (for some weird reason that I can't explain) before reverting back to it's shitty self.

I've had a few people drive it to tell me what they think and I've gotten a few very certain 'it's your clutch, I'd stake my car on it' kind of situations.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I just want to find out what the hell is up with it without resorting to giving it over to a monkey I don't trust to tell me what's wrong.

So could someone tell me if this sounds like clutch slippage?

Ah and Jims Racing Clutches would be the first point of my stop off to get a new one, thanks to those who pointed him out and reccomended him.

it will go into gear properly even if you clutch if completely buggered. definantly sounds like clutch man, you shouldn't be able to do the 4th gear and handbrake trick. another one is putting it in 5th and driving up a steep hill at 60ish, if it starts reving high its slipping. if its really bad you'll need to get your flywheel machined up aswell and a new clutch

Bought a new clutch off of Jim, hopefully sorted.

Thanks QWK32.

hey mate!

Glad your getting it sorted. but yeah i used to have the same problem as yours. rev-ing out. going no where...reving out under load going up hills. Not stalling when in any gear. let alone 4th! the clutch burn and smell is a dead give away also...when the flywheel is taken out, you will prolly see scorch marks. As QWK32 has mentioned you will definitely need your flywheel machined.

your clutch would definitely be on its last legs if its doing it in 1st gear. when clutches start to slip i believe they tend to do it the higher gear (5th 4th gear) and slowly work itself down to first gear. if it does it in first gear..its definitely going to die soon.

hope that helps

goodluck mate,
