I am going to run a Motec M800 on my new RB26 engine build, and over here in the UK someone has logged scatter of up to 10 crankshaft degrees from the stock CAS sensor. I was therefore considering using the CAS as just a cam position sensor, and using a crank trigger wheel for crank position, with a dedicated sensor. Have many here done that, and if so, are they willing to show how they designed the set up? I know Hugh Keir in the UK used the 18 OS Giken clutch to flywheel bolt heads as a 18 "tooth" trigger, but I think I prefer a front mounted assembly. Thanks.

here's mine. custom made crank pulley with intergrated trigger wheel. using ABS(antilock-braking system) sensor as pickup sensor. no chance to snap post-installation pic. too tight in there. will post up a pic once i have the chance...

take note that at the time of snapping pic, the "missing tooth" has not been cut as the pulley has not been installed on engine... cant determine TDC yet...

now running smoothly.

Thanks for that, a nice bit of machining, but are you not concerned about running an in lijne 6 with no crank damper? Cheers.

ok. in order to get a clean rpm signal with my autronic smc. i had to use a crank trigger. its a 3 tooth trigger. basicly 3 windows machined into the crank pully. with a 3 wire hall sensor. and works a treat. still using the factory cas for 1 cyl sync.

the sensor is mounted off the oil pump sump blots on a bracket. and the windows are about 20mm wide and 4mm deep.

    • My TIG likes to remind me I need more practise on the TIG. Especially Aluminium. My mild steel TIG isn't terrible (I'm not writing home about it either, but it at least doesn't just look like gooey metal)
    • No longer need the BOC account. It's all swap and go now from Bunnings/ToolShops. A fair bunch of the time I'm running my 180 on lower settings, and I'll run it on a 15amp to 10amp converter cable. When I need to ramp it up, I presently have 1x15A GPO and I move over to that socket with everything.

    • Hi all. So I have my GTR on the lift and have been working on it a few days and yesterday I unpacked the frontpipe that was wrapped with heat wrap stuff, because part of it was breaking down and soaked in oil. Noticed that the pipe itself does not actually look like a Mines, despite it supposedly being a Mines. But I could not find any fronpipe online that looks exacly like his, and I don't think it is a custom one. My amateur measurement also showed the two pipes are about equal length, so maybe this is just an old version of the Mines pipe? Would appreciate insight on this by the enlightened folks. greetings from Germany
