hey guys im going to get my car painted soon by a pro but after hours on the weekend sorta job. i have some questions tho wat do i do when i rub it back he will probs tell me but i have to fix some dents and shit first do i sand it back to metal then bog up the imperfections??. also my car is silver and i want to get it painted gloss black so is it hard to remove the engine myself or sud i go to a pro i want to save money is it not to hard??. also i want a high gloss back so wat paint do i need and how much roughy i need a primer and paint then gloss??. thanks i know this might have been covered but just thort id ask didnt fidn anything in a search.

im pretty shore you will want a panel beatter to remove dints becasue ur painting the car BLACK the car has to be straight as not one imperfection, also removing the motor isnt all that hard if you have a mechanicle mind and you have a few tools a few mates to help you out, also with the paint you want to get a 2 pac paint, BMW black its the nicest black out there and the way you get it to shine really well is to put a few coats of clear over it that how you get the gloss

A full respray/colour change is a big job... door edges, boot, engine bay... If its not done properly (especially if you are doing it on a budget) it can lead to problems down the track if you want to sell it. Its up to you to decide how far you can/want to go.

Even if you aren't going for a 'show car' job, black will show everything, especially any average repairs. If you really want to go black, then I would be paying your painter a little extra & getting him to help you out with the prep work too.

If the current paint is generally pretty good, it shouldn't cost too much extra, even if he does the dents/primer & shows you how to rub it all down.

Definatley use a 2 pack... I would recommend doing it COB (clear over base) even if you just want straight tinter black.

There are heaps of different blacks from all the manufacturers, including metallics & pearls.

Your painter should be able to tell you what brand of primer/paint he wants to use & how much he will need. If he wants to do it in acrylic, get another painter!

Remember... preparation is the most important part of painting... especially for black.

yea thanks guy i think ill get a panel beat to fix it up for me if not will a deep blue show as much??. depending on how much it cost to get repaired ill just get it done by a pro and deff painted by a pro. but i cant decide between a deep glossy blue and glossy black wat you guys think??.

Yeah colour choice is a hard thing... its pretty much all up to you. The darker the colour, the harder it is to keep clean too...

If you mean a deep metallic or pearl blue, it will still show imperfections, but not as much. A solid/straight dark blue would look... hmm..??

Take a walk around a few prestige car yards, BMW, Jeep/Chrysler, VW/Audi have some good colours to get an idea whats out there & what they look like actually on a car rather than just looking at 'colour chip' books.

A solid gloss black r32 with black window tint, lowered, on any rims painted either flat black or dark metallic grey (like gtr colour), red brake calipers & redlines on the tyres would look pretty tough though! (& the dirtier it gets, the tougher it looks)

    • My hold point for future mods is that I want a OEM detachable hard top first, but, finding one is a pain, MX5 Mania are looking for one for me, but, as hens teeth are more common, finding one in Australia is proving problematic  I can get a OEM one from overseas, hell, you can still get new ones in 'Merica, but, shipping is a absolute killer and I cannot justify the cost, or the risk of it being damaged during transport As for the aftermarket hardtops, whilst they do the job of being a hard top, and are fine for a track car, they don't seal well (read: leak like a sieve in the rain), and you need a plastic/poly rear window, plus they are a bolt in option only and not made to be easily removed I liked how the hard top on my NB could be fitted, and removed, by myself, in less than 5 minutes I know it sounds bad, but I'm waiting for someone to write off a car with one so I can swoop in on their pain, it will go to a good home though, so my guilt of this is tempered

    • No, you don't want to plug the vacuum line, as that will turn that side of the booster into an air spring and probably make it feel worse. I'm not saying that the GTR master itself doesn't need a booster. I haven't paid attention to the GTR one to know what size it is cf the non-GTR ones. But when you think about it - they have to do the same job, which is to move a little slave piston a few mm to do what it is supposed to do, and that final action is the same on all the cars. So, it is very unlikely that the GTR MC is any different than the others, because it has the same pedal stroke and the same output requirement. The booster just makes it feel easier. I'd suggest you probably have an actual hydraulic problem. It's totally common on these old shitboxes.
    • Ye, in terms of bolting up the "Conversion" from a GT to a GTT is effectively "Use GTT parts for everything" Except the subframe itself, because you won't want a HICAS/4WS subframe. Remember your ABS system will be different too, thanks to GT being the S15 3 sensor system, instead of the R34 4 sensor system for wheel speed. I do not know how people get this to work given R34 diffs do not have a provision for an ABS sensor (they are on the tone wheels of the axles). I assume***** people use S15 gear/R34NA forever when they realize this - Or they convert it to a rear diff/axles that are R33 style which I presume has the singular speed sensor on the diff itself, but then you have to wire it all in and...and... and...
