When It Rains, It Pours

Well some of you already know from the Spotted thread that my stagea litterally shat itself on Friday afternoon. My transfer case from my newly converted manual Stagea destroyed itself and now has a gaping hole in it. I don't think the gearbox itself is damaged as after the initial kerplosion it still drove for a bit. I have my old auto transmission and it looks like the transfer case is identical so I may be able to just swap them over.

I've come looking for advice. Who knows of a good gearbox/driveline workshop in the northside (Belconnen/Gungahlin) who knows of or is good with GTR gearboxes? I want to get them to first: Inspect the damage, second: determine whether or not the auto transfer case is adaptable, third: repair and replace a working gearbox.

I'm going to start a search myself, but if anyone has any good/bad experiences in these areas let me know

PS, if anyone knows a cheap, reliable tow truck service can you pass me their details as well. broken gearboxes make it hard to drive to workshops.

Cheers guys,

Leshy

Damn man that sucks. Not sure about the drive train stuff but...

Tony Borg from AF & DT Towing is a champion. $45 from Inline steering to Monash though that may have been because it was from Inline and Chris always uses him. Hes got a sweet truck, he takes care with you ride and has awsome customer service.

Thanks mate, I've had work done there before when my car was an auto, but I wasn't sure if they did manual gearboxes. I'll give the guys a call and get my car towed out there today hopefully.

Dam, cant remember his number, have his card somewhere around, he is a friend of a friend who drives a tow truck. Helped tow all my cars out to Murrumbateman and towed the old 32 a few times. Nice guy, likes to talk a lot :)

I rang the guys at Advanced Transmission, He said he's never worked on nor seen an R33 GTR gearbox. I'm still going to take the car there so he can look at it and let me know my choices, but does anyone know of a gearbox workshop who knows how the GTR boxes are put together? I might need to get this one rebuilt if the damage is worse than it looks.

Thanks for the help guys, Tony from AF & DT is more than happy to tow my car, it's on his way in the morning anyways.

I'll wait and see what tomorrow brings when they pull the gearbox out to inspect.

I noticed a pile of oil around my front left wheel and it was all over the rim. I looked behind at the CV joint and the diff but there was no oil showing there. It's as if the oil leaking from the gearbox has somehow travelled up the wheel... very strange.....

Car is FIXED!!!. The auto transfer case was not the same as the manual one, but luckily someone who works there had a son with a few spare transfer cases. He swapped me one for my old auto transmission so now the old girl is back on the road!
