Dohmar
Mate by the sounds of it unless you want a broken GTR don't track your car. I am not being rude its just a car that you take on the track needs to be in perfect running order or else something will let go and in a big way! Heh straightfoward advice Thanks... prolly will leave it off the track.... until I will x lotto or something heh cheers -D Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/185294-evo-vs-gtr-vs-sti/page/3/#findComment-3359140 Share on other sites
Cubes
Dohmar, Swap out that water temp guage for a oil temp guage, fit an oil cooler and overfill the sump to I believe the wobble in the dip stick on the GTR's which will stop surge. Search for T04gtr's post or a few of the vic gtr's running with a std sump. Fit some decent brake pads, change oil/filter and take it out on a practice day. You can go as hard or as soft as you like you don't have to trash it. Shift up at 7000rpm max and learn to drive the car, pick braking points and cornering lines. What kills the rb26's is oil surge and over-reving; overfill the sump, don't over rev it and it will be fine. BUT don't attend a day such as this without any experience; your asking for disaster especially if you get a little carried away brake a little late and smack up the arse of the car infront. :S Salad, what fuel did you say you went through in 30mins with 180rwkw? 2/3's of a tank of juice? So 2hrs for a full tank is wish full thinking. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/185294-evo-vs-gtr-vs-sti/page/3/#findComment-3359225 Share on other sites
salad
Well the 15 min (1 warm up lap, 8 flying laps and 1 cool down lap) sessions at Mallala would see me getting through just under 1/4 of a tank. Around the 1/3 left in the tank mark, I started getting fuel surge, that's with my 040 mounted right at the bottom of the tank and brand new fuel filter and injectors. 9krpm
i feel bad not including GTSts i really do but no it wont might need officials/flag marshalls though?? if anyone is keen too i forgot to mention It would be nice if you could include everyone. I don't have any problem with GTSt, GTiR, liberyt, forester, etc Would it be possible to have 2 sessions? The morning session for Evo, GTR and Sti. The second session is open for everyone. At Queensland raceway, they have regular sprints on selected Saturday afternoon with around 40-60 cars ...sometimes more. The last one I attended there were around 10 per group and around 6 groups. We usually have 4 sessions each for the afternoon. A session consists of 1 warm up lap, 5 race laps and 1 cool down lap. All laps wer time with a stop watch but they have recently introduced electronic equipment. What is your plan for the day format? HeyasI have a GTR but would be wondering about a few things : Most of my car is stock. 18 yrs old and all, aside from maintenance and broken items. My worry is that something will break while I run the car around the track, and since the car is my daily driver I really dont want this to happen. I'd like to know what things usually break on stock cars once they get fanged a bit. I have ceramic turbs anda boost controller which never gets taken above 1 bar, etc (see my sig for full mods) but I worry bout breaking my clutch, wearing out my brakes too quick, also wonder how much petrol im gonna go thru while Im hammering it hard. Full tank of hi octane = 2 hrs driving on full throttle perhaps? Not to mention that but I really am not that much of a driver. the gtr is the first high performance car Ive owned and I still need to learn how to drive properly (sounds funny but most of the veterans know what im talking about)... I dont know how to launch hard, corner hard or drift or anything fancy....so if ur thinking of breaking records, I'd suck nuts at it in spite of the GTR. I got 200kw on low boost but really don't wanna fang too hard... it has been tested 260kw on unsafe boost levels but Im not willing to go there.. I guess im just gonna have to get more money and upgrade all the weak shit... turbos, brakes, clutch, gearbox synchros n bearings etc.. -D Mallala is taxy on tyres and brake. You have to ensure that you brake pads and fluid are tracck ready. Street tyres will often reach their temp and melt on the track resulting a lot of scary fun However if the format is as above then it might not be that bad. In the warmer month you should also look at oil coolers. If you feel ready you should come out and have some fun don't wait until the GTR is a breathing mod monster to bring it out That is when a lot of things can break down!!! A well maintained stock GTR with street tyres should not break down just because it's at a race track. It's the best way to learn your car limit in a safer environment. Just follow and listen to the track briefing....you will enjoy it. There is always room for sensible beginner. Blue32
Very keen - I have currently ran a 1:20 at the Lala but this was on a single flying lap due to cooling system issues! Happy to take it to the Evos and STIs!!! I'm away with work till mid Jan so if it doesn't go ahead till after then - I'll be there!! mad34
ok here is an update. i have done some ringing around and here is what i have found... i have been speaking to a few people and they would like to keep it to around 30 cars so we will have plenty of track time for thise entered, but we may have a few more.... As for including other cars we wont be allowing other marques it will be strictly GTR EVO STI. However, for those of you without one of the three the evo club will be organising another timed event which will be open to everyone. id like to organise it through MGEC, but i dont know what will happen with the costs etc. I will have to talk to some of the club guys. i have spoken to clem and to have the track for the day will cost around 3.5k plus independant timing and ambo's etc. also i need to organise insurance through cams as its being timed getting insurance requires being a part of a cams affiliated club. So looks like the day will cost anywhere between 5 and 6k. Maybe more, but i have some other options on the cards this means with 30 cars say 10 of each will cost roughly 200 each. I would happily pay that just need to find out if others will. so for the moment until i speak to the mgec boys i have hit a bit of hurdle, but i am still keen as mustard so i will keep sorting things out. so yeh basically will you all be willing to pay around $200 for the day? This will include alot of track time and it will not be rushed to get through groups etc. so there will be plenty of time to put down some good times. Theres a guy i met a couple of weeks ago while out cruising with my brother, he was driving the only porsche GT3 RS in Adelaide full roll cage etc. 450hp at the rears and he was talking with us cause he and his brother are in the porsche car club and had just finished a club day a malla. His fastest lap was a 1.12... so 1.20 is damn good... GT3 RS are awesome track cars, dare i say one of the best in the world! i am jealous you saw it! Bunta
Slightly off topic...but Anna and I saw a GT3 RS the other day when out driving! So hot! There was a nervous looking dad in the passengers seat with a young girl driving! ha ha I felt so sorry for him Any way back on topic, sounds like a great day and have fun guys! Munro
Looks like fun, I would be interested depending on when it is. EVOs are great fun, I never got a chance to take my old EVO VIII to Mallala, but I did do a few hot laps around a large oval dirt track in the EVO VII. (Took the paint off the rear panel!) My GTR will need better tyres are the street yokos wont last long out there - is quite abrasive. Keep me posted. Blue32
1:20 is pretty damn quick mate! What mods have you got if you dont mind me asking? (power, brakes, susp, tyres, etc) Engine wise - R34 RB26 with steel wheelled low mounts, believed to be N1 or group A spec but haven't chased up the actual kind, just made sure they were the large cartridge/steel wheel variety for the boost I run (1.5 bar) The usual fuel system upgrades (pump, 700cc injectors, sard reg), ARC oil cooler and IC, blitz intake pods + hard IC piping kit, APEXI radiator (currently in the process of being replaced), PWR FC D jetro with last dyno at Willalls (340rwkws, 1.3 bar) although on the track I run a 20% toluene/boost 98 mix, 1.5bar and 3 to 4 degrees extra timing so whatever that gives me (seat of the pants dyno=quicker :-) ) Gearbox = stock, OS giken twin plate, ATS 1.5 LSD in the rear Chassis - all joints rose jointed, extra body bracing through the engine bay with tomei strut / body brace, chassis rails all expander foam filled, 4 point cage coil overs, track wheel alignment setup (although I haven't been to the Lala with the new setup) AP 330mm brakes up front, std rear albeit with braided lines + nismo pads in the back Tyres - at this stage still running the ADVAN street tyres (trust me - its a bloody handful on the track!) but I will be getting some semi's early next year. Managed a 36.66 up collingrove last Sunday on the first (and only) timed run before the event was rained out. Mallala is a braking track - so brute horsepower isn't a huge neccessity. Good cornering / brakes will help you along in leaps and bounds before you try taking more grunt to the track. Also tyre pressure / wheel alignment is a huge help, although it is obviously a little impractical to run 3 deg camber and 6-7 castor on an everyday streeter. mad34
well thats a fair amount of work done there. 1.20 is a good time i would be happy with that. who did the faom filling, i saw that done on street tuner challenge on fox apprently it can make a diff on 32's. have you nitice much difference? but as you have said mallala isnt all about power you need the brakes and handling to match. As for the GT3RS was it a 996 or 997? would have been a awesome sight eitherway! porsche dont put an actual porsche badge on the rs its a sticker to save weight thats the the extent they have gone to with the RS Edited September 22, 2007 by mad34 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/185294-evo-vs-gtr-vs-sti/page/3/#findComment-3366604 Share on other sites
