as iain said.

its not easy to access either, my assumption the whole side wall needs to come out unless you have spiders legs for fingers...

what were you trying to do??

Well my 4WD light is on and I have done the MIL light diagnostic and got 0000 so I thought I would move on to the Altessa computer as it directly controls the 4WD. Some of the C34 guys spoke about a diagnostic program for the altessa that works for them, not sure if there is one for the M35. Also want to check that everything is wired up properly.

Mike.

fair enough..

The Attessa ecu in the C34 is easier to get to than ours.. from memory.

Be prepared to pull off the whole inner wall in the boot to access it.

If you take the drivers side "compartment" out (just a couple of clips, it pulls right out) you can just barely see the Attessa comp sitting there. what i notices is that the plug is on the bottom side, and i think i could only see one of the bolts holding the ecu..

theres a couple of plugs directly below it under the car if you take the vented tray off, maybe check those wires too.

So I don't think there are any M35's in Tassie, certainly none for sale. So last night I test drove a 97' Stagea. It was probably the most under-whelming experience driving a car I've ever had. What is with the extremely loud fan sound from 0-50? I booted it a couple of times and it felt like I was going 200k's an hour yet I was slowly creeping past 20, on my way to 50 which took about 4 hours. I wasn't expecting GTR performance but this thing performed like a VAN and that is no exaggeration. There was also a loud high pitch 'pulley or belt sound in the upper rev range. It was actually a frightening experience cause every time I accelerated it felt like I'd blown the car up. I remember driving my old man's EL Falcon wagon and that was far and away superior to this thing. It felt draconian.

TELL ME IT WAS JUST A BAD EGG OR TELL ME IT WASN'T BUT THE M35'S IS FAR SUPERIOR.

Strange. C34's usually go pretty good for a wagon. The one you drove must be in bad need of a service etc.

Of course M35's kick arse and chew bubble gum. (and I'm all out of gum)

IMHO the M35 is a comfortable cruiser, but can go pretty hard if you push the loud pedal. It's quiet and has a fair bit of room.

Much the same as the C34!

I had the same experience as you with the C34....must have been a bad egg as well........I have driven an 260 and found it pretty good....but no GTR!.....M35's are completely different to drive....much more of a cruiser.

I'd say it was a bad egg if it was making those kind of noises...

... having said that, I drove a number of Series 2 C34's prior to buying my M35 and was completely underwhelmed with them also (as was the wife!).

Never drove a Series 1 C34, but considering lower power/torque figures and 1 less gear I don't think I needed to.

Love my M35. They are indeed far superior.... I just wish they could tow like a C34 can :(

yeh agreed. i fkn hate my car right now. but still prefer it to the C34.. driven a few when i was looking for the m35 and just wasnt impressed. drove the m35 and i felt a whole heap stronger.

Did you have a drive of a 260?....only reason I didn't buy one was that it was a 2000 model....to old for me :P

yeh i drove a 260. actually liked them and the only reason i didnt get one was because of the P plates at the time..

m35 is much more soothing to a police officers eye.. accept for the cunt that shoved a stick up the exhaust 4 days ago..

Ah ok, I just checked, I didn't realise the series 1 only had 170kw. Not a lot of power for a big car. Makes a bit more sense now. Still, it was an abysmal experience. I'm test driving a manual legnum next week with the AYC. See how that goes.

If that doesn't impress me then I'll be in search of a M35 on the mainland. From the advice I've got on here, something with upgraded suspension would be nice. I might be waiting a while, I want an M35 with all black interior (inc black heated/adjustable leather seats) & the VDO in very good condition however i'm not willing to pay over $14500. I've seen a couple go for this price, so it's just a matter of being patient.

Just a pain in the ass I can't test drive one down here before I fly over.

Nah I've seen a few go with those options for that price. Australia isn't in great shape atm, houses are on the market for twice as long as what they were 4 months ago, the reserve bank hasn't put interest rates up for some time because consumer spending is poor. Furthermore, they're coming up to a decade old now. You can get a 2001 Audi Allroad twin turbo V6 for around 16-18 which were 100k priced new.

When all said and done, al ot of people selling cars all start off 25-30% more than what they eventually get and this site is a perfect example of it. Not until they go below 16 are they selling, yet they all start between & 18-20, then it's "bump down to 17500" 1 month later "bump down to 16000" then another couple of weeks "bump down 14000" et etc.

In this market, the buyer is king.

I'm a perfect example of douche trying to get what he thinks his car is worth. I initially advertised my car so that it was equally the best buy on carsales which was 14k. Had I just advertised it for 12500 (well below market) I would have sold it 6 months ago but now i'll probably get even less than that

IMO 14500 evaluation is quite generous.

Yeah, sorry mate; I'm with zei20l on this one.yes.gif

Excellent condition all round, and Cheap are mutually exclusive concepts.

The guys in this forum are a great resource, and are helpful to a fault; it would pay you to take it on board.

The M35 is not a car you want to skimp on price. It will bite you on the arse, HARD.

Re; Allroad; you do not even want to know what they cost to repair and buy parts for...

Edited by Daleo

so buy an audi lol

and if you re-read my post, i said you wont find anything in the condition you describe for that price. youll get something with over 100k on the clock for under 14k

Lol I don't want to spend that much on a car (as I said I want to spend no more than 14500). I'm going to purchase a couple investment properties in 8-12 months ... if I did want to spend 17-18, yeah i'd be all over an an Audi Allroad.

You raise an interesting point re condition and kilometres. K;s have always been 'a big ticket item' for me but they seem less important when importing a car due to the increased risk that the K's have been wound back. I gotta say, you're pretty much the scum of the earth if you wind back the k's on a car, right down their with peod's and the like.

From people have said on here, it's better to get a car that's in good condition with higher k's than a car in average condition with lower k's

Re: Condition - yeah I'm arguing I can get all the options and vg condition for less than 15.

Only one way to find out thumbsup.gif

well, post up when you get one :)

you generally pay a little more for a better coonditioned car. and i rekon if youre not buying one FOB then it will have over 100k on the clock. not that its a bad thing, people have over 200k on the original motor and its still going fine

agreed x 1000

he already owns an alfa, he knows how much servicing on a euro costs.

Yeah, sorry mate; I'm with zei20l on this one.yes.gif

Fair point

Re: Getting bitten on the arse: Any car I buy will be tested by a certified inspector AND taken to a panel beaters for an inspection on whether it's been in an accident. I do that both with private and car-yard sales.

If I do that and still get bitten on the arse well so be it, not much else I can really do eh

I honestly think it's a matter of patience and I don' think that premise is any different for any car you buy.

As for parts, i've owned a couple of Alfa's in my time, nothing would shock me lol

    • Alright guys, I've got good odds the motor survives due to a majority of spare parts. Who's taking bets on clutch, who's on transmission, and who's go diff? Happy to also take bets on if it still overheats in traffic or not 😛     Car looks amazing by the way. I've never been a fan of R34 rears, so really, I don't think any body kit etc solves that for myself, but the front end looks amazing!
    • As an ex-skyline owner Going off how these things are now "modern classics", I would keep the twins and just "refresh" bits that are required for reliable power and have a car you can take out for a cruise whenever you get the itch As a idiot who cannot leave things alone Going deep into the "rabbit hole" is a easy thing to do, as previously mentioned, once you start it becomes a slippery slope, wirh lots of supporting mods, and possibly rebuilds, and unless you have a bottomless pit of funds, the car can spend most of its life sitting in the garage,  broken, waiting for parts, or building more funds For a classic like a R32 GTR Basically, a reliable OEM+ refresh, that isn't a broken garage queen, is alot better than a car that you build, then break, then fix, then break again And it isn't just the engine you need to worry about, these beasties are getting on in age, and all parts are getting, and have got, expensive, the days of picking up cheap replacement engines and other driveline parts are well and truly over The funds not spent on going a single with quality parts, and with all the other other bits required to make it happen, could be spent on refreshing alot of other parts A wise man once said "If you cannot afford 2 GTR's, you cannot afford 1", I also believe he said this about 20 years ago when you could pick up a clean R32 GTR up for around $20k My advice for a R32 GTR (the one and only true Godzilla in my mind) is to think holistically about the whole car, the body, the power train, the suspension, the brakes, and the driveline SAU is a wealth of knowledge with decades of Skyline experience,  from stock, to OEM+, to modified to varying degrees, to full on or weekend or dedicated racecars, as well as full on money pits that rarely leave their garage Treat the old girl nice and give her what she deserves, you are a lucky man to own such a classic car
    • For that price you could buy the hypergear turbo (big fan as I run one) and the Haltech ECU..
    • +1 for the Elite 2500. Get some new knock sensors while you are at it (pretty cheap), look up the TAARKS Nissan knock sensor kit. You may also want to get new coils (R35gtr) while your at it (assuming your on stock ones), as they are a liability. Mine started right up and idled fine on the base map. Also go MAP over MAF, as said above, Haltech make this super simple right out the box. Another fanboy of DBW here, Outsider Garage from your neck of the woods make some nice conversion gear for the R33 (that’s where I got some of my gear from).
