Stephen, try to get the error code and the description of the Airbag error. They should give it to you (FTG Nissan do).

When I go around to pick the car up later this afternoon I will see what information they are willing to give me.

You want to know because your mates car is still doing it?

yep.

We reset the error codes and it went away for 2 weeks then came back.

FTG stated that the error was in the "miscellaneous" directory in their consult so couldn't help as they can't read Japanese.

As per your instruction I reset mine too, but the same thing happened and it started flashing again a few weeks later.

They are struggling with the Japanese too, but seem to think it could be a loose contact or something to do with the wiring. They are going to check all the Airbag wiring and circuits etc. and hopefully find the source of the error.

Once it's cleared they will do another consult and see how everything is going, fingers crossed it doesn't take them all day to locate the issue :|

Will update once I find out what the GO is.

I saw Bis XXB at Hornsby Nissan today - front disks off.

That power duct is very tiny for a lot of money.

Please let us know if you can feel any difference in performance, and how the service went in general.

My car is now due for a 60k service, and I can walk to HN.

On the subject of the Axis 350S above, I was lucky enough to take a 350 RX for a punt around the block recently. All I have to say is... WOW!!!!!

That thing hauls ass big time. It accelerates incredibly strong right from the moment you gas it, and it revs freely all the way to redline without any feeling of hesitation or restriction. As this was a rear wheel drive only, the car also felt lighter and you could weave in and out of traffic more easily than my ARX4. Another difference I noticed was the g/b. It responds to manual gear changes a bit quicker thanmy car as well.

Overall I was mighty, Mighty impressed with the VQ35DE engine. Initially I thought it would be a slug to drive but it has certainly changed my mind that now I've got a drive of one.

imagine it in a manual!!!! I want one!!!!

Any thoughts on the lack of low down torque compared to our turbos?

The VQ35DE does need some revs to make it do its stuff compared to the VQ25DET.

That's the thiing. It wasnt lacking any torque at all and in fact, dare I say, the VQ35DE felt it pulled harder than my car. I'm going to have another spin sometime this week or next and get another good feel of the DE engine.

While we are on the subject of VQ35DE powered Stagea's.

Just thought I would post a couple of VINs in case anyone wants OE parts, or to check transmissions etc.

350RX RWD

VIN- PM35 650407

Autech 350s (nm35 Axis style body)

VIN - M35 0033AZ

MODEL - TLGARSAM35DDAT33AZ

Just curious about the low-down torque thing - comparing the VQ35DE with the VQ25DET...

I would expect the 35 to have more torque up to about 2000rpm or maybe slightly higher, then I'd expect the VQ25DET to start overtaking it quite rapidly (speaking of torque only, not on the road) and keep that lead right through to the redline.

My reasons are these. From what I've read online, all VQ engines will have 80% of their torque available from 2000rpm. This doesn't include torque from the turbo on the DET version however.

So at 2000rpm the VQ35DE would have ~288N-m available (I think they have ~360N-m max). Also at 2000rpm the VQ25DET would likely only have about 80% of the torque of a n/a VQ25DE - which I'm guessing would be somewhere around 180-200N-m.

These numbers are not exact by any means, but without the extra torque from the turbo, the 2.5L is never going to match the 3.5L.

But all the same, in normal driving around, 2000rpm is usually reached as soon as you apply pressure to the throttle, so the lines may be blurred as far as which one "feels" like it has more torque.

And this is all just purely hypothetical too. Personally I'm still more interested in the turbo version, because of its higher peak torque and the fact its turbo (there's no replacement for boost :) ).

+1

Interestingly "official" figures state that the PM35 with the VQ35DE uses more fuel (8.2km/L = 12.1L/100kms) than the turbo (8.9km/L = 11.1L/100kms) as well!

I do find it difficult to believe though.

when my turbo blew I had nowhere near the torque I had before and nowhere near the torque of a 25de that I test drove either

Yes, but I think that you are forgetting the lower compression of the VQ25DET compared to the VQ25DD

The VQ25DD is an impressive beast in itself. At just 2.5L it has more power and more torque than the (early) SR20DET. Its also got more power and torque than the current line of 2.5L n/a engines from the likes of Subaru, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Honda, and Toyota. They just need to bring out a decent hot hatch with it in. And no, the Tiida is not it. Why nissan insist on continually bringing all their crappiest models to australia and refusing to import class-leading cars like the skyline and stagea is beyond me. The Teana (maxima) is ok -very comfortable but a bit ugly IMO. They should've at least brought in the real maxima that the US is getting. Nissan would rather let toyota get all the glory with their 200 "killer wasp" aurion than fit a VQ37HR into the maxima. 245kw anyone?

Still, the fact that the stagea wasn't officially imported here makes it much cheaper for us to import, so i'm not complaining really.

Can anyone run 6U90000NM35317670 for me? No one in the fast thread can do stags.

Sure, but you don't need the '6U90000'

250t RX Four

Hard coat finish

TV/DVD option

No HICAS

Dunno what the other two are (70th anniversary???)

    • Realized I haven't been back here in a while. Still here, still alive, still waiting for the car.  I went back again the only time last year from Oct-Nov for R's Meeting and drove it around some more, including a few laps on Fuji Speedway(in the wet, sadly). The car still feels good, but have a couple small things to address. I've been getting more parts but have slowed down still, and most of the bigger purchases are now out of the way. I find myself getting impatient more and more when it comes to getting started on this project; it's quite hard for me not being able to really dive in and start making this car my own because it's halfway across the world. At times it doesn't even really feel like I own one of these. Haven't really been motivated or had the desire to document the last trip on here or social media for, well, reasons... but here's some pics...it's also still alive and well as you can see: I've narrowed down to the last large part purchases(anything over $2k) before the engine build to be: 1) Ohlins Road & Tracks 2) ATS Twin Carbon clutch 3) Endless BBK with some custom options and 4) Kansai Service carbon driveshaft I don't think the budget exists for all of these this year, but I'll try for one or two items I think. Though, every time I look at my spreadsheet I sigh, shake my head, and get depressed just that little bit more.  'til later.
    • It's a stunning location!  I've been to NZ twice but haven't made it to the North Island yet.  Definitely on the cards but the South Island is hard to tear yourself away from too... Looking forward to see what you can wring out of it once you can get it to hold together!  Be awesome to get a low 11 or even sneaking into the high 10's pass out of it.  That's a bloody quick car that most people will never experience in their life.  Enjoy!
    • Nominally yes but I’m not really at that stage yet. Outsourcing to Japan is also a relatively good deal at the moment because their currency has devalued much more against the USD.  You would assume this but a lot has changed from the pandemic. Mechanics are in short supply and demand for fixing old cars has gone up from the cost of new cars. 250-300 USD/hr is not an unusual shop labor rate in California and you’re paying that regardless of whether the guy is competent or not. Coworkers have been quoted 3000 USD for a water pump and thermostat at a dealer on an N54. Oil changes went from ~75 USD to 150 on fairly normal cars like Civics. The cost of the oil and filter hasn’t even kept up with inflation.
    • The downside to that is that the cost of everything, particularly labour, is significantly higher here than it is over there in the Disunited States of Slavery. You can hire 3 tradesmen over there for just the Ranger Raptor allowance of a single 3rd year apprentice over here.
    • Shit. Starting to look like a car again.
