Hey guys i was wondering if the R33 GTST rear calipers/rotors can be re drilled to 4 stud and bolt up ? i ask this is because i done this with the Fronts replaced the GTS front brakes with the GTST items and now wondering if i can do this to the rears without replacing the whole hub etc?

Cheers

Yep you can get them redrilled, and they do fit a friend of mine did that on his car, although he had to remove the dust shield. Think he also replace the brake booster and master cylinder as well, think he said that on the standard set up the pedal was a bit low or something.

was this for the rear set up for the front set up? because i went to a mechanic and he told me that he cannot install the R33 GTST rear brakes onto my R33 GTS because the R33 GTS rear brakes does not have the inner brake shoe/drum setup or along the lines of that :nyaanyaa: like i would have to change the whole hub ?

i cant help exactly, but on the rear i have replaced my r33 gts25 with:

- r32 gtst rotors + redrilled to 4 stud

- r32 gtst calipers + pads

- necessary brake lines

- removed dust shield

- re-tighten the handbrake to suit

with no dramas, i often use my handbrake in motorkhana/skidpans without fail.

This seems rather weird to me I have a R33 GTS25 series 1, and I've also pulled a part a wrecked R33 GTS25 series 1. Both cars have the drum set up for the hand brake with the rear discs. I've done a brake conversion on a R32 had the same set up as the R33's.

If you want to make 100% sure, and you have a few tools jack the car up, remember to use blocks for the front wheels as the hand brake can't be engaged, remove the wheel, remove the two bolts holding the rear caliper and silde if off the disc rear caliper (still leave brake hoses attached) and remove the rear disc and have a look, I'd be pretty surprised if it doesn't have the drum set up for the hand brake.

Yeah this topic is one that i have been pondering about as i am having the rb25det conversion and need to do something about the brakes sooner or later! I am not made of money, but i also don't want poor braking ability. is there laws on conversions and brake size.

links?

hmmmi guess it should be ok then aye :D hehe mmm ill ring a few work shops and see wht they say but yeah went to one garage and they said its impossible for me to put R33 GTST rear brakes on my R33 GTS as the R33 GTS does not have the rear inner brake thingo's and also they said i need to change my whole hub :P so yeah :P

i duno exactly for na to turbo rear breaks but i could check cause i do have both sitting in my driveway, but i know that almost all cars with disc's at the rear run drum breaks for the handbreak, i cant see y they would change the set-up or even how they could change the set-up for na to turbo, so im quite sure that they would have an inner handbreak and outer disc's for the breaks. i think that the workshop you called probperly just couldnt be bothered, because i know silvias use na 33 brakes as un upgrade then turbo brakes for 5 stud set-ups, i think the main difference is the disc size i dont think you can put na calipers over turbo discs because they are too fat but and like wise the na's are too thin for turbo calipers but if you are transfering everything it should be ok just make sure you get a brake booster too otherwise you'll have less pedal and more sloppy feel.

if your not willing to go with the swap just upgrade your pads and disc's at ther rear that should be enough of an upgrade to take a tubo conversion or more power ect.

ps HAME leagly you will have to have at least the equvelent of turbo brakes for it to be leagal and roadworthy, if you get pulled over they might dick you!

I am currently doing 4-lug to 5-lug conversion on my R33 1994 GTS. As well insalling GTS-T brakes.

Like to add to this tread that I did use the 5-lug hub from Nissan 300zx for the front.

But the R33 & the 300zx shares excatly the same hub & bearings.

You will need some shop press or good bearing puller to to do this.

And to add - handbrake system for the GTS & GTS-T - the same - at least for my car.
