Hey guys

tonight while re connecting my battery in a moment of sheer idiocy I connected the battery terminals around the wrong way and BOOM huge sparks from the battery, I immediatly realised what I did and checked all fuses in the fuse box under bonnet and all under the dash on the drivers side, they were all fine, now when I try start the car it just cranks and nothing else, the hand controller on the Power FC doesnt light up or anything

Did I fry the PFC or is their something else I should look into ?

Cheers guys really need help on this

Ive checked the fuses 3 times now, chucked the stock ECU in then and still same thing car cranks but wont start, but I have Z32 AFM, GTR Injectors and Resistor pack etc so the car wouldnt start with the stock ECU anyway would it?

Do you have injector pulse? No injector pulse is a sign of a blown ecu... car will crank as per normal but wont fire.

Edit - check with both ecus re injector pulse..... could be some wiring has melted also.... I had wires melt behind the wastegate (Map sensor wires) end result was a blown ecu... wiring replaced and a new ecu it was all good.

Check all fuses in engine bay, drivers side panel and in boot.

I know the feeling when silly mistakes brake the car and always think the worst has happened.

Eliminate the small things before thinking it's the pfc/injectors/ other things.

Nah car didnt start at all or go to start at all just cranked,

I have no idea if I have injector pulse how do I check that? thanks

The way I know is these little globe things.... forget the technical name! lol

Basically you remove the harness from the injector and plug it in to the globe and crank he engine over. If they are working it will light up.... my dad has a set of them, il find out the right name tomoz!

Could be another way.... possibly someone else knows????

Ok, lets start eliminating a few things. Firstly, lets check to see if you have power to the computer, ECCS relay, fuel injectors and ignition coil relay. These power supplies can be checked easily by simply using a multimeter and probing the wires at the connector near the power steering reservoir. The big white wire with black stripe feeds battery voltage directly to the injectors and pin 58 on the ECU and also feeds power to the ECCS relay. Note that with the battery connected you should constantly have 12V at this wire.

Assuming this is ok you'll need to check the big white wire with purple stripe for battery voltage as well. This is a feed to the ignition coil relay. Check this first and then advise findings. These items will at least tell us whether some of the main power feeds are present.

Let us know how you go and we can then determine the next step.

With all this, I am assuming you have no fuel pump operation. If the fuel pump is working it would imply the ECU is probably getting at least power to pin 58.

Nah mate could never hear it turn on before it stuffed up. I really hope the PFC isnt fried because its next to impossible to source one for a RB20 now and I dont have that kind of money :thumbsup:

dont feel bad,i did the same thing.LoL

now im no electrician,i should be able to confirm when i get home by looking at my old burnt out fuse.

Now in the fuse box in the engine bay drivers side,theres a green fuse that needs to be changed,i can maybe even give you the narva part number. BUT my electrician who sourced it said i was lucky that my mate wired my turbo timer in dodgey which luckily saved my ecu.

Soon as i get home,ill get you the electricians phone number if you like,he comes to you from Penrith.

    • A random thought I had just before I hit "Submit on this post". If brake fluid, in a container in my garage that has never been opened goes bad after 18 months, why can I leave it in my car for 24 months in an "unsealed container"... Secondly, some other digging, and brake fluid manufacturers seem to be saying 5 year shelf life... Me thinks there line on 18 months for an unsealed bottle is pretty much horse shit marketing spin. Kind of like how if you drive a car and don't run a turbo timer your turbo and motor will die horribly...   Where I started on this though... Someone (me) started down a bit of a rabbit hole, I don't quite have the proper equipment to do Equilibrium Reflux boiling per the proper test standards. I did a little digging on YouTube, and this was the first video I found on someone attempting to "just boil it". This video isn't overly scientific, as we don't have a known reference for his test either. Inaccuracy in his equipment could have him reaching the 460 to 470f boiling point range in reality. In the video, using a laser temp gun, he claims his Dot3 that's been open in his florida garage for over a year gets to about 420 to 430 fahrenheit (215 to 221c) Doing some googling, I located an MSDS for that specific oil, and from new, it claims a dry boiling point of 460 to 470f. Unfortunately they don't list a wet boiling point for us to see how far it degraded toward its "wet" point. While watching it I was thinking "I wonder what the flash point is..." turns out its only 480f for that specific brake fluid....   As for testing the oil's resistance, I might not be able to accurately do that unfortunately. Resistance level will be quite a LOT higher than my system can read I suspect based on some research. However, I might be able to do it by measuring the current when I apply a specific voltage. I won't have an actual water % value, but I'll have some values I can compare between the multitude of fluids. I'll run some vague calculations later and see if I should be able to read any reliable amount of current. These calcs will be based on some values I've found for other oils, and see how close I'll need my terminals together. From memory I can get down to 1pA accuracy on the DMM. I don't think my IOT Power Tester has any better resolution.    
    • No, with a twin plate clutch flywheels and clutch pressure plate/friction disks go together. Only clutch where that isn't the case is the Uniclutch but they currently don't make a pull version for the Getrag R34, just some other cars. Personally the flywheel is as light as I'd want it to be. It already drops revs faster than I want to shift normally and I blip the throttle again to rev match on upshifts.
    • Are there any other lighter flywheels that can be used with nismo coppermix twinplate system? Id like to gave the revs pick up faster than oem
