Definitely. The gas going out the gate doesn't go through the exhaust -

more "space" for the gas spinning the turbo (basically, any time the

gate is open there is less backpressure than there would be with a

plumb-back).

Also, the bled gas is only pushing against atmospheric pressure, not

what's already in the exhaust (basically, a given gate size can bleed more

gas; or same gas at lower duty cycle; or smaller gate can handle same

bleed requirement to maintain boost).

won't spool quicker (the gate has no effect till it's opened).

Might hold boost better where the gate is too small - a plumbed-back gate will be

able to bleed off less gas than the same size gate opened to atmosphere. Better

to get the right-size gate.

interesting, well i guess the real question is, how flowing is your exhaust. and if not enough, how much would a screamer would a screamer do.

ive got a full 3" turbo back exhaust so ill (if i have time) do a trial on exactly what the screamer does and get some dyno graphs

when i replaced my screamer to clear a defect with a dump pipe from batmbl, i felt after 5000rpm the exhaust just couldn't push any more out. im proberly wrong but when i had the screamer, the sound of it at as the gate opened more and more just convinced me im going faster LOL. i kow it sounds stupid but im sure some of u understand wat im trying to say

You can sort of see my exhaust here:

The gate outlet is 2"; say about 1/4 of the total area of the exhaust. Fortunately

we are going to have a dyno in town shortly; when this happens I'm going

to measure the car with various mufflers - sounds like with/without gate

is going to be required, too...

atm i have a monkey warehouse screamer on my car. and although i do miss the hiss of the turbo spooling at high rpm. it definitely does give the car a bit extra oooomph.

but i guess, using a bellmouth dump pipe would get the same results.

stay away from split pipes. my jjr split pipe caused heaps of turbulance, and created a flat spot at 100% throttle. with a screamer, it doesnt happen anymore.

but keep in mind screamers are mostly for dyno's and track days. i just bolt on my bellmouth when im on the street.

Yeah get a screamer so you will look and sound fully sick.....Untill you melt everything in the engine bay and then look fully stupid on Chappel St with a car thats on fire.

2RISMO & GTST I have already read it twice, Gets better each time :D

and what makes you think a screamer pipe is going to set your car on fire?

hmmm 800 degrees being shot out of a pipe hanging halfway down the back of the engine bay..

nothing can happen surely.

I mean, these engines are only 12-17years old.

they woldn't have any oil leaks or anything.

especially not from the back of the rocker covers..

naaah..

no way.

and surely there aren't any heater hoses or any electrical wiring anywhere near the back lower area of an engine bay these days...

I am seriously dissapointed at how much stupid information is given in these forums sometimes.

yes it's a public forum to pass your opinion on a subject but for f**ks sake..

the subject is a screamer on a stock turbo and people are saying it will bring boost on faster than a 3inch turbo back exhaust.

it will hold boost better.

it won't leak on idle.

it'll make more power.

you people need to get your arse dynos re-calibrated..

don't give out advice unless you have first hand experience or cold hard facts from proper testing.

sure give your opinion on the matter like "screamer pipe is sick bro" "you gotta have one to be in the in crowd bro".. etc..

but don't give out bullshit advise.

mate ive been running my screamer on my car for over 2 years now, not a single issue. all this talk about 800 degree flames shootn out. ive been told that yes my car does have small embers shootn out the side and back of my car, thats because the screamer pipe sits low enough to do shit all damage. it be pretty stupid if the pipe stopped halfway in the engine bay. the pipe clearly sits under the car.

it dosnt leak on idle, another stupid design flaw if ur havn that problem.

ive now learnt that yes it might not make as much power but it should definitely make JUST AS MUCH as a 3" turbo back.

it defiantly should have the advantage with holding boost.

so wats the downside performance wise? shit f*kn all. u c**ts always bag ricers n shit for havn shit that dosnt make the car go fast, now ur hanging shit on crap that does but is a lil to loud. give it a rest

I should note that I run a screamer on my car but I think it's pretty farking pointless on a stock turbo.

thats proberly a good point, proberly dont see the purpose of havn one on a stock turbo.

but why would u buy a 3" turbo back exhaust, when u know ur gonna be upgrading the turbo later on, adding a ext wastegate? why not just get the screamer save urself 600 bux in the long run wen u have to change that turbo back for a screamer.

at least thats wat i did

You guys can keep your screamer......but im gonna LMFAO when i read a post in the Wanted Section about needing a stock dump pipe cause you got defected and copped a 10k fine from the EPA for bypassing your Cat.

+ 1 lol :P

quite often its what cops look for also, as all they gotta do is poke there head in on the turbo side to see.

highly unlikley on my car. u cant see the dump pipe or screamer pipe from the top of the engine bay because i made a big CF panel that links to my ABS brake shield. and u cant see it by simply lookn under the car from the side. only way ur gonna find out is if u lift the car up.

and u wont be laughing because i still have my stock dump pipe. and change it when ever i please

i would challenge anyone that thinks they can find my screamer (well we all know where it is but u wont be able to see it)

been pulled over a million times now and not once been done for my screamer. they always ask why that CF shield is there. i just say its to protect heat to the abs system.

the only way they gonna find out is if they unbolt the shield which has like 12 screws into it. and thats not likely either

im not sure if this cars got a aftermarket turbo but it sounds exactly like mine.

    • Nope, still smaller rear, put on the 4inch exhaust and picked up power everywhere, ended up just shy of 800rwhp.   Didn't seem to be hitting any walls either, so perhaps could have pushed for more but all maybes and the fish that got away etc etc.

    • Ha ha ha, mine loves to spend, all on the dogs (they're our kids, and her spending would likely rival that of some people raising children!) the only benefit is, her spending is tax deductible as she runs a business in the dog industry 😛 The above all means she can spend race car budget quicker than I can. 😛 That and a lot of the things I want are very expensive, and I can be a bit "you want how much for that?!" And at other times overly impulsive. Or I start the w days of research, get to day 1.5 and get really annoyed that no one will advertise actual specifics and it's just marketting BS and I go "well, now I don't want anything to do with that now!" Also I hate paying lots of money for something I can make from $50 in materials. Then I get the shits halfway through making things and wonder why others who just buy parts have more fun... 😛
    • Their 240Z with the RB26 would be a real nice thing to have in a garage to come out for an occasional weekend cruise It's such a cool thing in so many ways Sadly, we have a blue 240Z shell that I walk past every day, just sitting outside a shed at work, it has been slowly disintegrating and falling apart into the ground for the last few years, the owner cannot be found, and I am unable to "claim it" I've been told by work and the RMS, the rust in the body is excessive though, and it has had most of the salvageable stuff, like panels, trim and switch gear stripped off it over the last year or two, work keeps threatening to put it in one of our metal scrap bins, I wish they did though, as it makes Mark sad walking past it
