Jdm Round 3- Qld Raceway

Recommended Posts

So... the big question is- Who is coming out to race, and who is coming out to watch?

It's on the Sprint circuit this time, and they are 18 lap races.

Anyone brave enough to come play with R33RACER and me?

Anyone? Anyone at all??? AMEC? How about it mate? :whistling:

We will be out fo shizzle.

I posted about this in the qld events section, but it seems that not many people are actually into motorsport these days. Well, atleast real motorsport, ie. circuit racing, i think the general population are more simple minded and enjoy the likes of drag racing or the even more pointless form of drifting.

Its sad.

Yeah, I think maybe after years of self abuse, it just came naturally for them to advance to auto abuse.

Plenty do the QR sprints but racing is a different matter. Firstly competing against big dollar cars, second the perception that your car will likely get run in to and damaged by someone shooting for sheep stations.

Then there is the very popular Morgan Park sprint series, some of which is more interesting to watch than processional racing. And lots of fun to participate in.

And yet plenty of them go drifting, which is a lot harsher on a car, and the probability of body damage is so high its essentially a guarantee... All the circuit guys are careful about shunting another car, because it ruins the day, and we'd rather not be spending money repairing the body. The carnage at 12 months of JDM racing wouldn't even equal one practice night at Archerfield I reckon. Anyway, we're out there for fun and thrills, not carnage and spills so don't let the idea of being run into drive you away. We don't have big dollar sponsors to pick up the tab if the cars written off or damaged. All comes from our own pockets

You give them too much credit. Their idea of motorsport is driving to the spit on a Sunday or going for coffee :)

To answer the question though, I won't be ready this time out. If Russ gets the 34 ready it will be nice having a couple of them out on track next year.

John, that toyo is just...well...stupid. I've seen it before and it is great. I'll try get out Saturday for a look. Unfortunately retirement doesn't provide enough cash to race seriously anymore.

Thanks mate (I think lol)

Unfortunately, I wont be out this weekend except as a spectator. Realised a little too late that the car has a blown headgasket from the last round and I really wasnt in the mood to swap the engine out of the other car into it. I've stripped it all down now to give it a freshen up instead, plus I'll be making some changes to the cooling arrangement. Annoying, but thats cars for you I guess.

    • I am currently going this route. I am curious how much horse power you put behind the cut bell housing? Collins was telling me I am going to crack it and bluh bluh bluh. Because I didn’t buy the custom fly wheel from him. I am looking for somewhere around like 500 hp
    • Forgot to mention that these are the before pics when I first got it!
    • Thanks @PranK for the updated member status, much appreciated! 👍🏼 Now, about those pics… Unfortunately I could only find ones that I took in the dark. I was soon to discover that underneath it wasn’t in the best shape, but it was mine and that’s all I cared about at the time 😆
    • Oh, and only having done this task yesterday, I've now driven the car ~60km since, and while it is hard to avoid placebo effect and confirmation bias, I reckon that some annoyances I had with the way the car has been behaving have improved. Which....kinda makes sense, I guess. If the bushes were really stiff and resisting rotation, they would have been contributing to the effective wheel rate. And if it was more so on one side (which it was, because one side was worse than the other) then.... you might imagine that the additional rate would be asymmetric, and potentially even different between compression and rebound. And so... the car has been twitchy at higher speeds - like freeway on ramps. It really shouldn't be. The wheel alignment is good and there are no (other) known problems elsewhere in the suspension. But at 90-100 on a long sweeping ramp, tiny steering wheel motions would make it feel like it wanted to rear steer. Quite nervous. At lower speeds it would heave about in a manner that it didn't use to. Didn't want to put power down, etc etc. Now...seems to behave better. Am going to have to concentrate on the various corners where it has exhibited weirdness, on the rare occasions when I can get a decent run at them without Methanial getting in the way in his D-Max/Ranger/LDV Van/etc.
