that would be awsome, our notes were realy bad last year, so we decided to buy them, and do a recce to get used to them.

Anyone keen on doing a team for Targa? Add yourself to the list. We can organise the paperwork at the Silverdome after scroot I believe? Correct me if I'm wrong.......

My NR dosn't run out till right near Targa. I hadn't heard anything about it, hopefully it's not going back to IR, can't be bothered going to the doc, or paying the extra $$. I doubt it would go back to IR though.

Did you hear that from CAMS or Targa? Maybe CAMS are making a new licence?

asaa?

Ben have a chat with Greg (Targa Tom), I used his notes last year and found them really good. I had previously used Vandenbergs up at Rally Tas and I dunno if it was just me bein a noob, but it was hard to keep on them, too much info I think to get my head around.

Depends on the sort of pace you set I guess

Up to you Ben, whichever way you choose is cool. Fyi, I always recce and make some changes to Vandenbergs notes, sometimes more info, sometimes less, sometimes just change them to read a little smoother. I've always found them really good to be honest.

YT/Catchy/Millar and I usually compare notes on Targa eve to see if our changes are similar, just to confirm there's no mistakes. You're welcome to get in on that action if you like :)

I can send you a sample of their notes if you PM me your email.

Thanks for the vote Tim. The reason you got to run them was as a favour to Holywood, but as much as I would like to do them commercially I just dont have the time...

Maybe if you lend Ben a stage from last year it will give him an idea.

Jamie/Simon' notes have fairly consistant corner gradings, but as Marlin mentioned sometimes need linking as your driver prefers. I know ours are probabley the only ones with distances at the beginning of each line... that comes from when my partner was nav and shit scared of falling off. Also is a boon when you have several cars off in the stage to pin point their whereabouts.

Laurie Pitt also does 1-6, but as mentioned by Ben - the notes are to paint a mental picture for your driver and every driver has a different perception. We for eg use a lot of distances, breaking markers etc and our crest calls are different to most. For this year we have and continue to Evolve(shit that word) our notes to knit the whole plot together.

BenM, if Marlin can get you a deal - or even pay full price - for VDB MS notes, I suggest you get them and Recce them to your drivers style (if they dont sound right to you, then change them).

If you are having trouble give me a call, take Ben up on his offer too for pre-event checking... and another thing - Buddy up with a slow car that is in the tour or a fair way in front of you... Great for a gravel car and also to prevent Targa Cars being targeted by the plod.

The news is elsewhere on the forum, but as many of you would know Heath Ledger's father Kim is a fellow competitor in several forms of motorsport, including Targa Tasmania.

Kim's a really nice bloke, my heart, and I'm sure motorsport's fraternity in general, goes out to Kim and the rest of Heath's family in this terrible time.

May Heath now rest in peace.

Awesome! A superstar heading downunder!

Direct from Mazda HQ

Mazda Australia today confirmed famed World Rally Championship (WRC) competitor Alister McRae and Mazda resident driver Rick Bates will spearhead the company’s 2008 Targa Tasmania campaign.

McRae’s motor racing pedigree is world-class: he has contested over 75 WRC events and is a former British Rally Champion. McRae is the third WRC competitor to test his mettle against the 17-year-old tarmac endurance rally, which this year will be held from April 15-20.

McRae and Bates will each be equipped with the latest performance car from Mazda, the Mazda3 MPS. This performance hot hatch is based on Mazda’s best-selling model in Australia and comes with a turbocharged engine which belts out 190kW and 360Nm.

Mazda Motorsport’s eighth entry into Targa Tasmania follows on from the company’s stunning result in 2007 in which Rick Bates finished a brilliant tenth outright in a near-standard Mazda3 MPS.

Mazda’s two-car team will be competing in the event’s new Showroom competition, which is designed to put near-standard vehicles on an equal billing with highly-modified racing and rally cars.

McRae: I’m ready for the challenge

The Perth-based Scotsman is charged about his first Targa drive, and is under no illusion of the challenge that lies ahead.

“Having competed all over the world in rallying at all levels, it’s great to have a new challenge, and doing it with Mazda will be great fun,” says McRae.

“Competing in an endurance event is completely new for me. But having driven in more than 30 tarmac events it will be a case of driving as usual and keeping in mind that it’s not a flat out sprint. My strategy will be to ensure a finish, but I am competitive by nature, so I want to finish as high up the leader board as possible.

McRae believes his biggest challenge will come from seasoned Targa competitors with numerous events under their belts.

That's awsome, hopefully it will open the door for more WRC drivers to come down. Maybee Alister will join our team, no one else has.

Is bates running in the showroom in his Aurion? Cause he's listed under normal modern on the Targa site.
