Damn, Torque doesn't do GTRs...bloody hell!

Crap! That really sucks. I always thought they were the best guys to get insurance from if you're >30 and have an expensive sports car.

Try calling a broker then?

I'm having trouble locating someone that will renewal my R34 GTR insurance. I just called Famous after all the rave and they said they don't cover car over $60k. IS THAT REALLY TRUE??? That limit is way to low and I need some advice here before my insurance runs out.

Larry Tyler, can you confirm this as your people on the phone cannot help me.

Hmm, you might not of understood my post if you think it was a rave.... Was I to subtle... :-)

rang up Famous today to ask where was my renewal papers, and was told i was not insured with them!

it took 4 phone calls and 2 faxes to convince them i wasnt having a lend of them.

however, all sorted out now, but was seriously concerned there for a day.

i cannot believe some people are complaining about paying 2500 - 4000 dollars as a premium... so far all ive found (Bankstown NSW) when trying to insure a 200sx, R34 GT25 skyline, 180sx, even a NON TURBO silvia, the premiums were $4000 for the silvia, a plain and simple "no" from NRMA for the skyline, 200 and 180. Just car insurance quoted me 7000+ for the 3 newer cars.

btw im 19, have never had an accident and currently have a 30% ncb according to the girl behind the desk @ NRMA.

i agreed when it was said that u can only drive a commadore, or hatchback for so long.. in my case its a 1984 corolla station wagon.

It looks like premiums are coming down because of easier supply of parts from Nissan. They informed me that they are happy to deal with import owners now and can get original everything.

I can remember when even asking for an oil filter and a washer for the oil sump plug took an hour and a half while they worked out which part number you needed and served everyone else first.

Now the process of getting these parts only takes 1 minute and is very informative with regards to other parts you can get that you thought were out of reach.

This sort of service makes all Nissans in general more attractive, as the Nissan imports reputation can now be added to the Nissan Australia stable.

I have basic modded s15 (fmic, wheels, zorst, pod)....25, rating 3 going to 2, 2 speeding fines, no claims/accidents....

im currently undergoing quotes and other stuff at the moment with famous for my s15. im only 21 and have s15 with BOV and pod and there doesnt seem to be a problem... just a really high premium/excess... theyll still insure me tho.... which is better than most other companies will do...

I have had some trouble getting through to famous recently. I rang up a while ago wanting to get someone added to the policy, they said for me to email the details. I did, but didnt hear anything. I called back a week later and she said she had not gotten around to it.. Yet to hear anything and its been ages.

I am a little concerned about that. Who does everyone else here deal with?

lol guys u wont believe this. called famous up and asked em why they didnt want to renew my policy ....guy from accounts goes "ur car was written off"....iam like "err wtf ?". I go iam pretty sure my car is ok, i just drove it 10 mins ago LOL...the guy is goes "froim our records this car was written off and a pay out was give"....after going back and forth a few times and me almost taking my phone to the car and revving the engine for him, he finally agress there has been a clerical error ontheir part.

anyway waiting for himt o call back and sort this out, will be expecting a damn good premium in my next renewal tahts for sure!!! ..

    • Also had a look at the Nissan JP website looks like the 400r has a slightly shorter ratio than than the regular V37 3.133 VS 2.937 which from a guy who has driven both 3.69 vs 4.11 ratios in the S15 is bugger all. Seems that the AUTO Z runs the same ratio as the 400R but can't find any info as to if its an open or LSD? More often than not the auto LSD is open
    • Do not replace the power steering lines with this stuff. If it's anything like the Chase Bays stuff it will leak and be worse than stock. The reason why the reservoir is on the LH/passenger side of the car is because that's just where the reservoir was most convenient to fit. Don't overthink this stuff. The intake/cold side of the engine is pretty busy on these cars. And again, the hardpipe is designed to be a janky power steering cooler. In theory you can replace it with a real power steering cooler but that's really only for track use where boiling the fluid is a distinct possibility. Start with the low pressure lines feeding the pump from the reservoir. Make sure there isn't a bunch of junk in the reservoir filter. Be careful to not get ATF all over the engine bay. I hate dealing with ATF spills, you can clean it up and the slightest crevice will still release more oil that can still drip over time. You also want to inspect for leaks before you make a mess and can't tell what happened. Most likely you have a leak somewhere that is allowing fluid out and air in. Failing that it's allowing air in but not fluid out. Only place I can really see that happening is on the low pressure side because the pump will pull a slight vacuum to draw fluid in. Everything after the pump is high pressure or lower pressure, approaching atmospheric by the time it returns to the reservoir.
    • I did a skidpan night at SMSP this week, it was much cheaper than $350. But yeah, you need to slap an LSD in that thing.  I put an OS Giken in the 370Z and it's f**king MARVELOUS even compared to Nissan's viscous LSD. So you're saying it's free now that it's a housing estate? 😂
    • Nah, the car seems to run exactly as it did prior, in saying this it does "seem" to be better down low, like more eager to rev, but that may be 100% placebo effect from intake noise But, I'm not worried about it at all, in the end it is a fairly low compression NA engine that has a well shrouded intake,  if it is getting hotter IAT I cannot notice anything negative performance wise from the seat of my pants thrashing it about on the street or sitting in traffic, so meh, car now now makes induction noise so I'm happy
    • Do you have an IAT sensor? It's worth checking it to see. You may be suprised how little gap you actually need to flood your engine with hot air. (I tape up my airbox for a reason) :p
