I have been waiting for a towing reimbursement for 3 months.

I have called a number times and sent through all details twice, I was informed it would be sent. But still nothing?

I understand that this is not a wingeing thread but I cant see anything happening and its over $200 so I'll leave my comments at that.

Please call me to get this finalised.

I had an accident in my GTR last Tuesday (13th July)...I'm very depressed about this because the car is now dead...write off.

I'm insured with Famous and I lodged a claim with them. So far they've been very helpful. They have organised an assessor and he came out yesterday and had a look at the car. Famous are waiting for salvage figures before they contact me.

I guess I Just wait now for Famous to contact me and tell me what comes next...Hopefully it'll be quick because I've got no other car...

I've just had a claim finalised through Famous. The car was a write off too ;)

From submitting my claim form to getting the claim finished and pay out figure in my bank account it was 8 1/2 weeks. Make of that what you will.

I suppose the main thing is that at the end of the day I got the money....

Just to put it in comparison, a friend wrote her car off about 2 years ago. Vechile was inspected the day after the accident and NRMA sent her a cheque 5 working days later !

But I think things have changed in the last 2 years, maybe they investigate deeper etc..

Like I said, the main thing is that I got it in the end, and I got the amount I wanted.

Leech_ - I'm looking at a Stagea  Trying to find one in Australia is a bit hard cause they are all interstate :D I've been looking at importing one too..

Well I just hope to have the matter resolved within a week or two, because I really need another car. I spoke to somebody at Famous over the phone who said that they will wait for the assessors report and salvage value and then proceed from there. These reports will be in by Monday of next week and so hopefully by the end of the week someone will call me and advise of what's happening.

I guess this experience with Famous will determine whether or not I insure again with them. So far they have been quite helpful with any questions I have asked.

Got a quote today from NRMA for 93 Skyline GTST 4 door.

65% NCB, multi-policy discount, no claims in the last 5 years except a theft write-off in nov 99.

Policy cost on agreed value of $20K = $1924 per yr or $167 per month

Cost on market value = $1450 per yr or $127 per month

Not sure which to take yet.

NRMA have always done imports, at least they have always done Skylines and several others (including Silvia). But their prices for Sydney at least are ridiculous. The last quote I got 2 years ago was over $3500, that being >30 and 60% NCB. Also, they don't allow for any mods. Why would you bother?

I'm a grade 6 (or whatever the worst grade is since I've just got my Ps), with an R34 N/A Skyline (although they don't distinguish between turbos and non-turbos) and it costs me $3879 a year with Just Cars which I found to be the best price for full comprehensive insurance. Only mods to my car so far are a body kit and a CD stacker.

Jay, I'm 34 but yeah when I went through it over the phone I just said it was a 93 skyline, turbo, might be under gtst and she said "ahh yeah there it is, 2 door or 4 door", also took me through the difference between market value or agreed and when I said "so if I take agreed value, when I do work on the car I just need to up the value and the premium will get adjusted" she just said yup.

I've been driving for 17 years now, been with NRMA for all of them, only needed to use them twice (once for the stolen car and once for getting rear ended near calvary hosp) and both times it's been quick and painless with no hassles.

I'd suggest giving them a go, standard excess is $400 and driver excess over 25 is usually $400 as well.

Knytestorme - thanks for the heads up. I'll give them a buzz and see what they can do. I've got my building/contents insurance with them too, so I think they give a further 10% discount :P

Hopefully with the Stagea it'll be a tad less seems it's sort of a 'family wagon' ;)

Demon,

I'd be interested on the progress of your claim. Out of curiosity what was your premium & excess? Our policy is coming up for renewal on the GTR (currently Rating 1 with Just Cars @$1670) which so far we are quite happy, I suppose beause we have a number of policies with AAMI & Just Cars.

However it's always good to support those who support the Skylines Club, and this time round we're seriously considering Famous. Initially we planned to join Famous but were worried about their underwriters which was some time ago now.

Cheers

Shhhhh....  Don't tell them that  :D

I suppose that's the key to insurance... Tell them everything!!! It's always nice to have peace of mind "just in case" you need to make a claim. Remember it's in their interest to both pay a claim, but if they have a reason (small or large) to avoid paying then I guess they will.

Insurance companies can be quite funny the way they quote a premium on a car.. last year we sold our car "CLK430" the premium was usually around $2K per annum. When our new car arrive "E55" we rang to get cover, they quoted us $1550...?? our mouths dropped! we said "are you sure you have the quoted us on the right car?" And indeed she was, they even sent us the cheque for the difference between the two covers. Didn't make sense that a car worth twice as much, with nearly twice the hoon factor could be ~25% cheaper to insure.. maybe because it was a four door opposed to a two door.

Meshmesh, my premium is just over $2300 on max NCB as I pay by the month and my excess is $1000.

Famous are waiting for the assessors report and Salvage figures which they should receive early next week. They should then contact me and tell me what happens next.

Jay, are you sure about their policy about not allowing big pay out customers to re-insure for a period of 1-2 years? I spoke to someone there yesterday who has been there for a week and she said that she hadn't heard of this. If it is true, then I might try Just Cars next time as meshmesh's prices seem awesome.

I will keep all you guys updated with the progress of this claim...

    • Also had a look at the Nissan JP website looks like the 400r has a slightly shorter ratio than than the regular V37 3.133 VS 2.937 which from a guy who has driven both 3.69 vs 4.11 ratios in the S15 is bugger all. Seems that the AUTO Z runs the same ratio as the 400R but can't find any info as to if its an open or LSD? More often than not the auto LSD is open
    • Do not replace the power steering lines with this stuff. If it's anything like the Chase Bays stuff it will leak and be worse than stock. The reason why the reservoir is on the LH/passenger side of the car is because that's just where the reservoir was most convenient to fit. Don't overthink this stuff. The intake/cold side of the engine is pretty busy on these cars. And again, the hardpipe is designed to be a janky power steering cooler. In theory you can replace it with a real power steering cooler but that's really only for track use where boiling the fluid is a distinct possibility. Start with the low pressure lines feeding the pump from the reservoir. Make sure there isn't a bunch of junk in the reservoir filter. Be careful to not get ATF all over the engine bay. I hate dealing with ATF spills, you can clean it up and the slightest crevice will still release more oil that can still drip over time. You also want to inspect for leaks before you make a mess and can't tell what happened. Most likely you have a leak somewhere that is allowing fluid out and air in. Failing that it's allowing air in but not fluid out. Only place I can really see that happening is on the low pressure side because the pump will pull a slight vacuum to draw fluid in. Everything after the pump is high pressure or lower pressure, approaching atmospheric by the time it returns to the reservoir.
    • I did a skidpan night at SMSP this week, it was much cheaper than $350. But yeah, you need to slap an LSD in that thing.  I put an OS Giken in the 370Z and it's f**king MARVELOUS even compared to Nissan's viscous LSD. So you're saying it's free now that it's a housing estate? 😂
    • Nah, the car seems to run exactly as it did prior, in saying this it does "seem" to be better down low, like more eager to rev, but that may be 100% placebo effect from intake noise But, I'm not worried about it at all, in the end it is a fairly low compression NA engine that has a well shrouded intake,  if it is getting hotter IAT I cannot notice anything negative performance wise from the seat of my pants thrashing it about on the street or sitting in traffic, so meh, car now now makes induction noise so I'm happy
    • Do you have an IAT sensor? It's worth checking it to see. You may be suprised how little gap you actually need to flood your engine with hot air. (I tape up my airbox for a reason) :p
