Went out with a mate today to watch his brother competing in the World Remote Control Car Championships on Leitchs Rd Brendale. http://www.5thscaleworlds.com/. I think they are still qualifying and are heading for finals on Saturday.

They are awesome cars. 1/5th scale running a 23cc petrol 2 stroke engine. These things rev to 22,000RPM and run on a purpose built tarmac track.

The cars have full suspension (I mean everything, camber adj, caster adj, toe adjust, ride height adj, rebound adj, damper adj, etc) alone with carbon fibre disc brakes - cutest little brake pads you have ever seen.

The cars weigh about 10kg, are about 50cm long, hit around 90-100kph and cost about $4-5000 each.

If you get any time - go have a look.

Very cool :P

they are annoyingly loud things. I work just around the corner on pinacle street and we can hear them from the factory. Plus all the extra traffic blocks up the streets around the area plus kids all over the place. Its abit dangerous for an industrial estate with trucks and whatnot around all the time.

They are good fun to watch. They seem out of place being so small and intricate though.

You are right - need a lot longer track. Would imaging they would get up to a fairly hefty top speed on a longer track.

And you are right about the noise. Someone was tuning their engine while we were there and revving it at full tit for about 30 seconds.

Like a brushcutter on roids.

We've got a few :):D

But don't stand a chance with any of the World Competitors.

A 1/5th Lauterbacher X-Cross which is full alloy.

and a RS-5 that is Full Carbon.

Both with 23cc Zenoahs.

But we've got the special one with full alloy and a chrome 29cc Engine.

All with hydraulic disk brake systems.

I was there on the weekend, the track does seem to small. They to go as fast as they could there.

hahha yer my neighbour was an offical at this event, the 1/5th scale rc's are sweet, but my bank balance doesn't allow for that, its 1/10th for me until i start hitting the better money

hey.. 1/5th or the 1/10's?

1/5ths can vary... but the ones that they are racing are 4000+ thats the car online. + high tech servos, transmitter + receiver... etc...

big sum!

thats why most of the championship racers are all sponsored. no private racers or many.

i have an offroad 1/8th scale rex-x its a beast on that bmx track behind the race track at brendale

Pics??? I wanta see how bi these things are...

Dont they put poles, chains and stuff all of the track to stop people using it...

dan whats the prices of these comp cars..??

like all up with gear supplies for a season yada yada

1/10th to get up and running depends, normally near the end of a year or when a new chassis comes out you can pick up and older car that is setup fairly cheap. But to get setup with all the radio gear, spare parts, spare engines you could be looking $3000 with new parts.

Its fairly cheap buying stuff from overseas, RC-Mushroom normally have some good prices.

I know they use to put chains across the track, not sure now, they got taller fences. You can always go next door to Trackside RC and pay a small fee and they will let you drive on the track.

this is her, never let me down. i let my dad have a go and he went out of range at full throttle so it hammered up the park the smacked into a wooden pole, only broke the front bash guard, 10 bux from mr toys, mine requires the occasional tune which is easy as! and i clean it and put it in the shed ready for next time.

there great fun however wen misstreated can be expensive, the value of my car is around 700 i think brand new and is a strong beast, i have also put pvc pipe around the tyres and she slides like a champ can control it through anything...

    • Son, in this country, that is a piece of Gyprock. f**king drywall. FFS! I also like the autocorrect of trailer to tablet. I was reading it and thing, "what the hell drugs is he on?" Then the photo made it clear enough.
    • SO whats the deal with this issue? I've read a heap of posts from the infinity owners in the US having full engine swaps done under warranty. Most claims are done on earlier cars than 2019 but I'm sure I've come across claims of 2020 models also having this issue. I like the 400r and Q50Red/S but can't fathom dumping close to 50k on a car with terminal issues!!!
    • The above video is working normally. That is, that's how the right hand indicator should cancel when rotating the wheel left.
    • I noticed that I could see creatures on the moon when I turned my new headlights on. I thought I should check the alignment. It's pretty rudimentary but I just grabbed some dry wall and put it against my tablet and made sure the beam was below the height on the headlights. Ie the beam is at 600mm on my car, I just made it lower than that 7.5m away.  Not the best but it'll do until I can do it properly at the local shops.
    • As @Duncan said - the bores are most likely to cop it. But anything can and does happen. Rods are cheap. Rods are good. The work to rebuild the motor will be 30x the price of rods. You won't notice it.
