We'll hopefully be racing in the NSW state champs enduro in the last weekend of October at Oran Park.

I don't think there will be as many categories running as usual but should mean lots of track time for us :)

Sorry meant to add congrats on being so close to a full licence- what/where have you been racing (and sorry if that's an ignorant questions, I haven't been on SAU much these days).

Cheers kel, I havent been on sau much lately either. I have been competing in group sa in the historic series, although the car i have been running has just been sold by its owner to make way for an mx5 race car so i might hopefully get a few steers in that or in their mgb race car.... will just have to wait and see. Hopefully i can clear up the end of october but i think im going to struggle as i have a wedding and my gf is heading over seas so im sure ill be in big trouble if im not at the airport saying goodbye!!!!

Will have to get off my ass soon and do my flagging soon so maybe next time!!!!

Oh yeah forgot to say..... been driving a 1959 sunbeam alpine, Its old, underpowered, the suspension is kinda buggered and its had more hits than mike tyson but it still gets round oran short in close to the same times as i can do in my line.... mind you my line is also nudging 20 and still has the origional suspension so thats probably no mean feat!!!!

Its about 2 seconds a lap slower round wakefield, though you feel every bump so it feels like your going faster than you are!!! Lots of fun! :)

what a top way to learn to race....good stuff :) I guess rubbing is considered poor form in historics though?

Yeah its heaps of fun, i have to drive the s$%t out of the old girl to be in contention for a place. They aren't to keen on rubbing panels but it does happen. I had one experience with a porsche at eastern creek which was a bit more than a rub, i was sitting on his bumper ( yes a porche thats worth about 200k being tailgated by an alpine that just sold for 7k) at turn 3 when he decided that he liked the grass better so speared off straight ahead but also made the decision to keep his foot planted harder on the accelerator then come back on and t bone me at somewhere near 100 clicks.... very exciting. i did 3 full spins then ended up facing the right way, he went on to colect the wall over the top of the tunnel on the opposite side of the track that he origionaly left from, i think he was lucky to hit me cause i slowed him down lots and he still hit so i think it would have been hospital time for him otherwise!!!! Apart from that i have so far managed to keep out of trouble..... but i guess with racing its only a matter of time!!!!! It was a real shame to see the old girl get a new home this week but after testing one of the track mx5's at wakefield a few weeks ago im sure it will make a worthy replacement!!!!! :)

haha i always feel a bit ripped off when its not my fault :) sounds like an expensive day out for your porsche buddy.

I remember the saying in the daewoos, when you see someone spinning in front of you, drive straight at them. By the time you get there they will be goooone.

Which I believed until I saw someone nail someone else dead on the drivers door :)

those mx5s make good little race cars, msut drive one one day

    • Actually,  just remembered there should be info in the threads (somewhere) about swapping to a manual steering rack and deleting power steering all together.
    • Also had a look at the Nissan JP website looks like the 400r has a slightly shorter ratio than than the regular V37 3.133 VS 2.937 which from a guy who has driven both 3.69 vs 4.11 ratios in the S15 is bugger all. Seems that the AUTO Z runs the same ratio as the 400R but can't find any info as to if its an open or LSD? More often than not the auto LSD is open
    • Do not replace the power steering lines with this stuff. If it's anything like the Chase Bays stuff it will leak and be worse than stock. The reason why the reservoir is on the LH/passenger side of the car is because that's just where the reservoir was most convenient to fit. Don't overthink this stuff. The intake/cold side of the engine is pretty busy on these cars. And again, the hardpipe is designed to be a janky power steering cooler. In theory you can replace it with a real power steering cooler but that's really only for track use where boiling the fluid is a distinct possibility. Start with the low pressure lines feeding the pump from the reservoir. Make sure there isn't a bunch of junk in the reservoir filter. Be careful to not get ATF all over the engine bay. I hate dealing with ATF spills, you can clean it up and the slightest crevice will still release more oil that can still drip over time. You also want to inspect for leaks before you make a mess and can't tell what happened. Most likely you have a leak somewhere that is allowing fluid out and air in. Failing that it's allowing air in but not fluid out. Only place I can really see that happening is on the low pressure side because the pump will pull a slight vacuum to draw fluid in. Everything after the pump is high pressure or lower pressure, approaching atmospheric by the time it returns to the reservoir.
    • I did a skidpan night at SMSP this week, it was much cheaper than $350. But yeah, you need to slap an LSD in that thing.  I put an OS Giken in the 370Z and it's f**king MARVELOUS even compared to Nissan's viscous LSD. So you're saying it's free now that it's a housing estate? 😂
    • Nah, the car seems to run exactly as it did prior, in saying this it does "seem" to be better down low, like more eager to rev, but that may be 100% placebo effect from intake noise But, I'm not worried about it at all, in the end it is a fairly low compression NA engine that has a well shrouded intake,  if it is getting hotter IAT I cannot notice anything negative performance wise from the seat of my pants thrashing it about on the street or sitting in traffic, so meh, car now now makes induction noise so I'm happy
