Hi, now i have been looking around at different choices for a single turbo for an rb26. and the two that i have really come across and liked are the gt35r and the t04z. both fairly different im assuming.

just wondering what everyones opinions on htese 2 and any other suitable single turbo would be

cheers, james

Hey Turbz 13,

If you are looking at GT35R's and T04Z's if suggest the a Billet Turbochargers Billet Z-P

Mate has one on his 32GTR and it's sweet. Itโ€™s got a 1.06 A/R exhaust housing and only comes on 200rpm later than the GT35R that was on it. The Billet Z-P made the same power on 14psi as the GT35R did on 19psi. His car made 460rwhp. Couldn't run any more boost with the Billet Z-P as his fuel system was not up to the job.

i found a gt35r kit for the rb26. i havnt really heard much about these being used on rb26. i think it was rated at 700hp. bit smaller than most of the singles i have seen used on rb26. but i mean if it does the job...it will work

Billet use custom cores with turbines / compressors from other turbo's, theres dozens of different combos of the Z-P, are you aware what setup your mate had?

As in, are you saying his Z-P with a 1.06 spooled 200rpm earlier then a GT35r with a 1.06 rear? Would be very interested to know, ta

The Billet Z-P on his car spools 200rpm later. Thatโ€™s an awesome trade off for the extra power he made. The Billet Z-P is in a T3 1.06 rear housing. With the Billet Z-P the (Z) stands for the compressor and (P) stands for the turbine.

There is a guy over on the Calaisturbo.com.au forums with a Billet Z-P with a .81 A/R T04 rear housing making 590rwhp with a 2speed glide. He backed the power up with a couple of 9sec passes in a full bodied street VL Calais.

Thatโ€™s a pretty cool achievement.

I had a look at their site recently , it sort of looks like a swag of T31 turbines and P's with a choice of T04S or I think the T04R compressor . I gather thats what you mean by Z wheel , the T04R's compressor .

I think I can see why some of these turbos are making a name , T series turbines with T series compressor wheels like Garrett intended .

One combination I saw that worked well on SOHC RB30's was the P/60-1 and the 1.00 A/R TS T3 flanged T4 turbine housing . You can now buy the P/60-1 reasonably cheaply (for their large frame BB centre section) and the old housings bolt straight up .

Cheers A .

Ta .

As per the single on RB26 the things to know are :

1) What state of tune and condition the engines in .

2) What style of manifold and wastegate system .

3) Intended use - what engine range the thing needs to have acceptable torque over .

4) Budget . Pointless without one .

Cheers .

Hmm, yeah the Billet Z-P, HKS T04Z, Garrett T04Z and Garrett T04R all use the same wheel combinations and most of them the same housings as well.

It's the ball bearing system in the Billet's that makes the difference. Not like Garrett's or any other ball bearing turbo system.

I'm sure once you have used a couple you will be impressed.

As for the T series. Maybe a Bit of a miss understanding reading the Billet stuff.

HKS T51R SPL = T series comp wheel with old school T51 turbine. GT42R = Smaller trim T series comp wheel with GT turbine.

Billet 72, Billet 74 and Billet 76, same comp wheels with GT style inconel turbines. NOT old school T series turbines.

The turbo you suggested for the RB30 is apart of the Billet S-P range.

:P

The way I read it the GT4294R/02R use the same inconnel GT42 turbine but with either the 94 or 102mm GT compressor . The BB T51R's cartridge wise are basically the same deal but with a 76T T51 turbine and some minor comp trim trip changes on either the KAI or the SPL . I have not looked but the T51R's may also use the slightly different mounting system for the turbine housing like a T04Z does , basically the crab plates and bearing housing register instead of the four "ears" and bolts like most of Garretts large frame BB and plain bearing turbo cartridges . Thats just a simple method of making the T series turbine housings fit the large frame T type turbine equipt turbos .

It would be interesting to know if Billet can supply turbos using Garrett GT BB compressors and turbines in combinations not offered or only expensively through HKS . Also are they going to do large frame type centre sections as well ?

IAm using a Garret T04Z with head work and bottom work and it goes soo sweet..Pushing out over 400rwKW Try get a small real housing if you want faster kick in cos you dont have head work .......

Hey Disco,

All the Garrett GT 42's I have seen only have GMR turbines. Thatโ€™s not to say they don't make a GT42 with a inconel turbine but I have seen quite a few and none of them have had inconel turbines. I will have a look at the smaller 94mm comp wheel soon as I have some time but the 102 GT comp wheel is from the same casting as the all the T series.

There are so many options in trims with comp wheels and turbines available thereโ€™s a good chance what ever combo you are looking for, if its not already listed. Call them and they will most likely custom build it for you.

By large frame Iโ€™m not sure what you mean. They make Billet ball bearing turbo's all the way up to 2400+hp single turbo's.

Off the top of my head. Dyson Rotory are using them on there drag cars, Kiwi-RE use a Billet Pro DRAG 91-GT on a 20B making 1360hp no nos 35psi. There was a Supra at Sydney Auto Salon last year (MIS 2J) It has one of the smaller 80mm large frame Billet turbo's. It made 960rwhp no nos with one of the cylinders way down on compression.

TURBZ_13

I have used many Billet turbo's on lots of different engines over the years.

There are many people over on the Calaisturbo forums using them as well on RB's if you are looking for results on RB's.

6BOOST Kyle who dose manifolds for RB's uses alot of them including on his own car.

The widebody blue R32 that won 6 cylinder Horse Power Heroโ€™s at Summinats 20, 2007 is using one.
