Hi guys,

I washed my rear seats (coupe r33) (dont ask) and in the bath tub and now they are really moist inside, its a pain to dry them out... my brother said to take it to panel beaters and put the seats into the oven they have... is this a good idea or any oher way to dry them out?

I was offered to buy second hair s2 rear seats for 100 bucks +freight. what would you guys do?

cheers

I would just use a hair dryer or just leave them out in the sun depending on how the weathers like. Not sure if I'll go out and buy a new set just yet. How long has it been since you gave them a bath?

hairdryer and lotsa towels

towels actually absorb water (their moleculer make-up is such that they 'suck up' water - not just hold water in-between the fibres)

so bung lotsa towels all over it and let them try to soak up some water, then hit it with the hairdryer for a long time

the real question is why did you wash your car seats in the bathtub. and what kind of stains were you trying to remove. jb.gif

Cat pee, the box where I had my cat tipped on the side and the pee trickled onto the seat... bad smell... tried many things to get it out, didnt work, until I got carried away with baking soda... that removed the smell but the baking soda has truelly left its mark on the seats... Hence why they needed a wash.

Yeah get a room as hot as you can and leave it in there. You can even buy one of those moisture trap things, like a little plastic bucket filled with silica crystals that you buy at Woolies or whatever and leave that under the seat while it dries to draw out moisture.

But damn, cat pee, for 100 bucks id just buy the new seats instead of having a faint odour return on warm days :ninja:

any osmosis or capillary action is going to take forever to dry the seats. you're better off pointing a heater at them and squeezing the seat every few minutes. that should at least push some of the water to the outer layers where the heater can dry it, then squeeze again and repeat.

it's going to take a long time to dry the seats out completely though.

Did you end up getting the smell out in the end? Or did you just purchase new seats because you got sick of waiting? $65 is cheap.

The smell is out although one part of the seats smells rather damp... dont know if it will come out in time.

I got the replacement seats because to me it seemed too long to wait and I dont want to risk missing out on cheap S2 seats... there are many S1 seats but not that many s2s...

    • What could be causing my clutch problem besides a bad master or slave then? Both those parts are new
    • Just came across this, but in QLD I start leave again in 2 weeks, if it is still available I might drive up and check it out Unless, @MBS206 do you live near here????, if so I could hit you up with a finders fee https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/hope-island/auto-body-parts/nc-mx5-factory-hard-top/1328976391
    • My hold point for future mods is that I want a OEM detachable hard top first, but, finding one is a pain, MX5 Mania are looking for one for me, but, as hens teeth are more common, finding one in Australia is proving problematic  I can get a OEM one from overseas, hell, you can still get new ones in 'Merica, but, shipping is a absolute killer and I cannot justify the cost, or the risk of it being damaged during transport As for the aftermarket hardtops, whilst they do the job of being a hard top, and are fine for a track car, they don't seal well (read: leak like a sieve in the rain), and you need a plastic/poly rear window, plus they are a bolt in option only and not made to be easily removed I liked how the hard top on my NB could be fitted, and removed, by myself, in less than 5 minutes I know it sounds bad, but I'm waiting for someone to write off a car with one so I can swoop in on their pain, it will go to a good home though, so my guilt of this is tempered
    • I’ve got one on mine and it’s fine,
    • No, you don't want to plug the vacuum line, as that will turn that side of the booster into an air spring and probably make it feel worse. I'm not saying that the GTR master itself doesn't need a booster. I haven't paid attention to the GTR one to know what size it is cf the non-GTR ones. But when you think about it - they have to do the same job, which is to move a little slave piston a few mm to do what it is supposed to do, and that final action is the same on all the cars. So, it is very unlikely that the GTR MC is any different than the others, because it has the same pedal stroke and the same output requirement. The booster just makes it feel easier. I'd suggest you probably have an actual hydraulic problem. It's totally common on these old shitboxes.
