Hi everyone, I have just joined the site, and recently converted from a V8 Holden to an R32 GTR, now this is all new to me so im trying to find out as much info as I can about these cars. What I can tell you about mine, I bought it in a private sale from Sylvania, Sydney, it is grey in colour, got 120k on the clock, guy stated it has forged and strenthened bottom end, stock head, trust cam gears, stock R34 turbos, HKS dump pipes, blitz blow off valve and wastegate, turbosmart 2 stage bleeder type boost controler, brass button clutch and an old EMS computer. I paid 17K for it, it had a few problems which were sorted out by the gyts at Croyden motorsports, the guys there are fantastic and know the car inside out, it was dynoed at 235awkw, I ran it at WSID last week, but only got two runs, ran a best time 12.8 @ 106mph, but this was in full street trim with shitty faulcon tyres, al be it they are 265 wide x 18in diamerter. I did not let the tyre pressure down or take the strero out, just drove it to the track rced and drove home. Now this car is my daily driver so I need to keep it streetable, but I have a bit of rivalry with a friend of mine, he just bought a TT Supra, he thinks the supra will kill the GTR and that the GTR will never do better then an 11.9 unless I spend 100k on it. Well not only do I have to prove him wrong but I want to discrace him next time we go out to the track, he also came out with me last week but could only manage a best time of 13.6 @ 102mph. So round 1 to the GTR, but he thinks my car is as quick as it can get, he is about to do some major mods (turbos, comp etc). I would like some opionions on what are the best value for money mods to get the car really moving! I CAN NOT LOOSE TO THIS SUPRA!!!!! I have ordered a new SPC i-colour boost controler. I just got new plates for my car so you should see it going around, the plates are IDO 11S, I need to make the car at least do that! Thanks for reading, look forward to hearing from you all.

Sorry just wanted to add it is running 15-16pound boost at the moment. Also yesterday it split one of the charge pipes, the rubber pipe going from the turbos to the intercooler, so I have been babying it around, dont want to replace it because I want to change to stainless steel trust pipe kit, with a new Trust intercooler, I should have it in about two weeks, but if anyone has a spare pipe they want to sell cheep or even lend me for a week or two,it would be great, I wouldnt mind being able to hit the throttle hard again, although I have been getting great fuel economy :ninja:

definatly baby it man...esp in this hot weather.

What front mount do you have? what exhaust and its diameter?if you have that stronger bottom end you can push boost up more but i wouldnt over do it if your unsure of the components. I'd be doing head work if i was you. port and polish, aftermarket camshafts etc. why the spc...probly woulda gone an eboost if you are going down the ebc route. Good boost controller and assuming you have decent fmic and exhaust should see you into the 11's with a smart tune, good traction and a good driver not you saying arnt haha. You should kill the supra unless he goes and spends 100K. Your car is no where near its potential. wont take 100K but it wont be cheap either. GTR's or any import for that matter will definatly put a hole in ur wallet.

Yeah tell me about it!, but I have to say it is the most enjoyable car I have ever driven, and I have owned a few good cars, (Walkinshaw commodore, VK SS, worked VN 5l) neither even come close to this in terms of fun factor when driving. But I bought the Blitz i colour cause that what CRD recomended, intercooler is stock at the moment but I out a deposit on a Trust bar and plate cooler from CRD and will be ordering the pipeing kit next week. Im looking at changing the turbos to a set of N1;s either the -7 or the-5, I am told that I will also need to replace the injectors (which are stock at the moment) to sard 720cc units, pump has already been done, as well as add a oil cooler and catch can and replace the computer. Only problem is I only have 5k to spend at this point in time and dont know what to do first, it seems as soon as you do one thing you need to do something else? Where do I start????

exhaust is a trust unit from the turbos back, including dump pipes. I just fitted a high flow metal cat as well, not sure of diameter, but its big right through, I would say 3 1/2 to 4in straight through. Will keep everyone posted on my progress and you will all be invited to the track when I line up this Supra for dinner.

Im exactly the same with a mate of mine;

I got a datsun, he got a lancer

i got a commodore he got an audi

he got a porsche i got a GTR

now he wants a GTR so im making mine as fast as possible

I invited him on a drive, since then he wont come again until he gets a gtr - wonder why :ninja:

Ive got both a twin turbo supra and a GTR, theyre both going to be fast if you spend a shitload of cash on them - no question about that. But the thing is, 600hp in a GTR and 600hp in a supra are different things if you are talking about a daily driver :P

Trust me, rivalry like that gets expensive....very expensive

Where do I start????

If its already got a decent computer and forged pistons just put decent turbo/s on there and enjoy!

Dont forget fuel things like FPR, injectors, pump and all that stuff though

Depending on your choice for turbo/s that should be do-able

hey dude, looks like a neat GTR youve got there. welcome to the club.

this site is choc full of info. for the right setup and turbo choices that suit you, have a look at this thread: "rb26 turbo upgrade, all dyno results."

flick through and see what power people are making with their choice of turbo/s for the rb26.

first thing i'd suggest is to get it into a workshop to check for a few things before you get started:

-compression

-leak down

-oil pressure

-fuel pressure

-A/F ratio

if all checks out o.k. and within spec i'd start hitting the car up with some mods. i'd suggest looking into a Power FC. the EMS doesnt have much support in sydney, i only know 1 workshop in sydney that does it.

you should click on the events section to see when the next meet is. but be careful, alot of these guys are complete poofs and will attack as soon as they see you bend over into your engine bay.

p.s. if you find someone good to tune your EMS computer (if you choose to keep it), let me know. ive got one in my m3 that isnt tuned and is running like shit.

get ur cooler sorted then do turbo's (has a single turbo conversion crossed ur mind) and injectors at the same time so just have to do one tune.

In a good way or bad way? What would you say is the better driver, a 600hp Supra or GTR?

In a bad way, like you spend and spend until one of you just says "f**k this, i know my car is faster, now im going to go blow my cash on something else"

Each car has their own positives and negatives and i guess they each boil down to personal taste - for example supra is rwd and gtr is awd, you may prefer awd BUT your mate might prefer rwd, everyones different :ninja:

I had mine tuned at Croyden Motorsport, just off Silverwater Rd, the tuner there (Jim) is switched on and did a great job, but my EMS is an old one which has to be tuned through the hand controller so I will be updating to a power FC, but like I said, I have a limited budget at the moment so this is going to be an ongoing project, I have done abit or research, I am looking at a power target figure of around 350awkw. CRD have told me what they thing I should do, but I am looking at 10k just in parts, This is fine and I am prepared to spend this, but I only have 5k at the moment so just looking for some ideas on what to do first. Items that I am looking at changing are: Cams, inj, turbos, intercooler, computer, boost controler, fuel press reg, fuel rail, oil cooler, catch can. Can I run 350awkw without an oil cooler, keeping in mind it is running a stock sump? CRD says no, it will probably throw a bearing, reason for a oil cooler is to increase oil capasity. What are your thoughts?

Yeah but with an R32 you get the best of both worlds, I just fitted a TSC (torque split controler) which also has a 2wd switch, I was having fun until the charge pipe split. I do love rwd, but the way the GTR launches when you give it a good dump is unbelieveable, you will obviously know this. I cruious as the the difference in engine charicteristics, and in the real world can a Supra keep up with a GTR (really) or will my mate be doing this :ninja: after i am finished with him. I hope so cause if not then I will be doing this :P to the Supra, and man, I am a sore looser, if he beats me I will spend 100k just to smash him! As you can tell the rivelry is intence, you should here our phone conversations, they get quite personal. But its all fun :)

Just cause you didnt like it bitch

Decide on a turbo path then go from there

350awkw with a single is common (see that rb26 thread) so there's some social proof it can be done

On a budget? Ok rough numbers:

FPR $130

Cams: leave for now

fuel rail: leave for now

catch can: $100

computer: leave for now (at least its not stock)

turbo/s: up to you, but around 3300 for jap brand name new, less for Oz made

inj: 750

fitting all that: NFI

tune: NFI depends on who you use, shop around

If its been rebuilt it should have at least sump baffles. Did it come with a receipt for work done?

but the way the GTR launches when you give it a good dump is unbelieveable, you will obviously know this.

Yep, this is mine:

Yep, Supras can keep up with GTR's, but sometimes the GTR will be having a hard time catching the supra - its comes down to talent and your wallet

motor was built by Rigoli, recipts for work, previous owner was actually related to him. Work was done 3 years ago car has done 30k since rebuild, they are cheap prices you have quoted which leads me onto my next lot of questions, are these cheaper items as good? Just jap do a cooling pro intercooler for $400, CRD want $1300 for a bar and plate trust unit? Just jap do an oil cooler for $400, CRD said they would sell me a trust unit for $900, again Just jap do a catch can for $200, CRD do a custom built item for $500. I get nervious when going for cheaper items cause I only want to buy things once. With the turbos, I was going to go a pair of HKS 25/30 purely because thats what the Mines R34 GTR uses and that thing is a jet!!! check it out on youtube if you haven't already, but CRD rekon the N1's are a better item and are $500 cheaper. I looked them up on the net, the -5 flow 360hp each, or I could go the -7 which flow 310hp each but obviously les lag. The stock r34 turbos on the car now are good and come on boost instantly, but you can really feel them flatten out up top, the car really starts to die off after about 6000rpm. But I wonder if this is because of the low boost? CRD told me that I wont get much more then 250awkw with these turbos? :ninja: This is how I feel when I start thinking about this???

Ok, without starting a bitch fest (from other users, not you) there are cheaper places than CRD to buy import parts that are either exactly the same part or just as good

example? www.nengun.com www.perfectrun.com www.greenline.com

Main reason is net traders dont have to pay rent/land tax, heaps of wages....etc where as normal shops have to, and of course the cost is passed onto consumers (basic economics).

For the record: Ive got nothing against CRD or any other shop

On the turbo part i will definately go for the N1s. Trust me Croydon know there sh*T ... i Got r34 N1 Turbos in my car i am so glad i bought them i was going to buy hks Ones , N1s Are so responsive and when it comes to the street mate it will do the job 100% guaranteed..

P.S Glad to see you woke up to yourself Buying a GTR , I Myself useto have a V8 Gto and a rexy And the GTR Will Eat them both alive :worship:

Good luck with your car..

be careful mate, 15-16psi is too high on the standard turbos, either turn it back down to 14 or go for steel wheel turbos - plenty of people have killed their motor when standard turbos have let go.....

CRD really know their gtrs right up to top level race cars, but you pay for the expertise. If you are looking for normal sort of gtr performance say 300-400kw there are heaps of cheaper places to go, and much cheaper places to buy parts.

Hi, could please tell me which N1's you got, the 2869R-5 or 2860R-7? and what sore of power are you making? Im not sure which ones to buy, the -5's make more power but with a little more lag, the -7's are suposed to be quite responsive but max out at 350awkw.

    • Update: I got the magnet out. I bought 3 different flexible magnetic reach tools, but none of them worked. The magnet on the tip was all less than 2lbs of force, so i had to buy a special cylindrical magnet that had a pull force of 9lbs.  The magnet finally came in the mail yesterday, so i got under the car to get to work. The super strong magnet isn't that long, so i only have about 1 finger pinch lengths to hold it. I was so scared when i was going in the hole, that the 9lb magnet would just fly away inside the oil pan never to be seen again, but i had my butt cheeks clenched and finger gripped on that thing so tight, i managed to get it to suck the other magnet out.  It was a victory for me last night.
    • Yep, pretty much what you said is a good summary. The aftermarket thing just attached to the rim, then has two lines out to valve stems, one to inner wheel, one to outer wheel. Some of the systems even start to air up as you head towards highway speed. IE, you're in the logging tracks, then as speeds increase it knows you're on tarmac and airs up so the driver doesn't even have to remember. I bet the ones that need driver intervention to air up end up seeing a lot more tyre wear from "forest pressures" in use on the highway!
    • Yes, but you need to do these type certifications for tuning parts. That is the absurd part here. Meaning tuning parts are very costly (generally speaking) as well as the technical test documentation for say a turbo swap with more power. It just makes modifying everything crazy expensive and complicated. That bracket has been lost in translation many years ago I assume, it was not there.
    • Hahaha, yeah.... not what you'd call a tamper-proof design.... but yes, with the truck setup, the lines are always connected, but typically they sit just inside the plane of the rear metal mudguards, so if you clear the guards you clear the lines as well. Not rogue 4WD tracks with tree branches and bushes everywhere, ready to hook-up an air hose. You can do it externally like a mod, but dedicated setups air-pressurize the undriven hubs, and on driven axles you can do the same thing, or pressurize the axles (lots of designs out there for this idea)... https://www.trtaustralia.com.au/traction-air-cti-system/  for example.... ..the trouble I've got here... wrt the bimmer ad... is the last bit...they don't want to show it spinning, do they.... give all the illusion that things are moving...but no...and what the hell tyre profile is that?...25??? ...far kernel, rims would be dead inside 10klms on most roads around here.... 😃
    • You're just describing how type certification works. Personally I would be shocked to discover that catalytic converter is not in the stock mounting position. Is there a bracket on the transfer case holding the catalytic converter and front pipe together? If so, it should be in stock position.
