Hi guys

Ive got a mate in hong kong who has bought a really nice car while hes been over there, he's due to come back here next month and wants to bring it here - does anyone know the procedure/costs for doing that?

Is it much different than importing from japan?

Thanks heaps for the help :D

No different at all, same laws apply regardless of country.

SEVS if he's owned it for less than 1 year, private import if he's had it for more.

I don't see how it might differ from importing from Japan.

What car is it? :D

BMW 7 series

I'll be over that way in 2 weeks. was wondering about the import scene over there.

It virtually doesnt exist - he reckons he's seen one R34 GTR the whole time he's been there (which is a looooong time now)

Unless it falls into the SEVS category there stuff all chance of importing it unless hes lived there and owned it for 12months.

Cheers

no way! the last few times i went i saw atleast 3 R34GTR's and plenty of other nissans. Evo dominated i have to say tho(saw atleast 4 each day)

tell ur friend to go the street in Mong Kok where they sell car accessories and have garages, as there's shitload of imports always parked on that street

hi there, recentlyi brought cars over from Hongkong. the company that i've done the compliance with said, i need the first original de-registration certificate. they said they need a proof of the cars origin or SH#t like that.

BMW 7 series

Thats a nice car, my 2nd favourite series of cars after the skylines.

Makes a good car for driving to my family friends parties & show off the 7xx to the cheaper 318s they all have. :laughing-smiley-014:

    • Update time!  The JZX110 had some maintenance needing to be done, so a lot of the seals with replaced to fix some oil leaks. Also used this opportunity to whack on a front mount that I'd bought some time ago.  I also finally got the rear lip painted and fitted.  I then got the exhaust done. It's just a catback for now. Custom made 3" stainless with a turn down. I could have a tip coming out, but it will require cutting the rear lip and possibly the bumper itself. So far I do like and it's made the car a little more zippy.  Close out with some nice pictures of the cars and a sneak peek of what's next.

    • Just something I found searching for more info on Emotion R, apparently the ECR33 Skyline GTS25t was either originally black, or there were two of them, the black one being the original demo car, then building a white one which was part of the 1997-onwards (to at least 2008!) Cockpit Tatebayashi Tokyo Auto Salon booth demo cars. It appears that Emotion R closed down in 2008 and was declared bankrupt in 2010: http://bank-db.com/hasan/208365. Scan of a magazine with the black R33 from 1996: Wayback machine archived page from May, 2000: https://web.archive.org/web/20000529061027/http://www.emotion-r.co.jp/skyline.html Option magazine with a few photos from the Cockpit Tatebayashi booth at the Auto Salon from various years: 2002: http://www.jdm-option.com/photo/index.php?action=item&category_id=154&image_id=3507 2003: http://www.jdm-option.com/photo/index.php?action=item&category_id=137&image_id=3033 2005: http://www.jdm-option.com/photo/index.php?action=item&category_id=116&image_id=1831 In 2008 Cusco website mentions that the Cockpit Tatebayashi ECR33 was displayed at that year's Tokyo Auto Salon: https://www.cusco.co.jp/event/2008/12/post_735.html As of 2021 it appears that the ECR33 demo car ended up being exported to Florida, USA: https://rmcmiami.com/inventory/1996-nissan-skyline-r33-cockpit-tatebayashi-demo-car-big-te06-turbo-endless-brakes-lsd-450hp/ And finally here's Google streetview of the Emorion R garage in 2023 which is amazingly not only still there, but the showroom is still full of various parts in stock and funishings, etc.: https://maps.app.goo.gl/ttyEAZdZLyzermyT9 Apologies for nerding out a bit. I used to love doing this 20 years ago on SAU and got a bit nostalgic for a moment... 😅
