Unigroup again?

I think we should move dyno days to a 4WD dyno, because a lot of forum members (including our President!) have now upgraded to R33 GTRs, which is a pain to put on a 2WD dyno...

C&V or CRD gets my vote...

Ok fair call re the 4wd crowd.

I thought Unigroup as people seemed happy with previous days, we are already aware of approximate pricing, and turns out they are old Uni friends so wanted to say hello, as well as throw some business their way .

Does anyone know the CRD crew? Care to bring it to their attention, or would we get the same treatment/service etc irrespective of who approaches them.

I think CRD and C&V's dyno day pricing is pretty set, regardless of who organises it. I can drop by there and have a chat to Jim sometime this week and get an indication if that's where people want to do it...

Although they're nice guys and are genuinely trying to help owners out with tips for their cars, I found that Unigroup doesn't really understand the concept of a dyno day. The idea is to get the car on, run it once or twice, and get it off as soon as possible so the next car can get on. 10 minutes per car... 15 minutes MAXIMUM.

This promotes the highest turnover of cars, and means that people don't have to stand around for 30-35 minutes waiting to see the next car.

Think my estimate of 30 minutes is a bit outrageous? Next Unigroup dyno day you goto, time it and you might just be surprised.

Hey

Unigroup guys have been OK to me.

I rang CRD a while ago re the Redline gearbox oil that "benm" said he got from them.

The ars*hol* said that the "Skyline Forum were all a bunch of wankers" and virtually hung up on me.

Fkn prk ain't gettin my business.

Full stop.

Humbla

Humbla, I have a feeling there's more to that story than you're letting on. What did you say to them before that?

Personally, I'd prefer to stick to either C&V or CRD, as they are well known benchmarks in Sydney dynos... Who knows how high or low Premiere Auto reads, and I have heard of some stories about their dyno operator changing the ramp rates for certain vehicles to bump up their power a bit too, which is dodgy as all hell.

Merli would be able to give you a better estimate, but the last PF dyno day I attended at CRD (this was 18 months ago now) cost us 40 bucks. Was done so well, we lined the cars up, they put them on and off. I didnt have to wait all day for a power figure that I can trust.

At unigroup last time it took all day to get my car on the rollers. There was so much dead time.

While I wouldn't be participating in the day in any other capacity than spectating, I can vouch for the Croydon guys running a very tight ship on days like this. A PF dyno day happened some time ago (over a year ago I'm pretty sure), and I think from memory we got over 30 cars on and off the rollers. It took just a little effort from us to keep the supply of cars flowing, and they turned them over nice and quick. A light run to make sure all seemed ok, and then a couple of power runs.

It strikes me as kind of odd that they'd make an unprovoked comment like "Skyline Forum are all a bunch of wankers" when it appears they're trying to build a name for themselves as somewhat of an authority on Skylines!

This is the last I'll say in reply to Merli, Roy & Tex.

I certainly didn't want to hijack this thread. Just saying that I enjoyed a dyno day at Unigroup (once) and had a bad dealing with CRD (once). I believe it is supposed to be a fun day.

Conversation was as follows:

Me: Good morning.

Him: (Grunt)

Me: I am ringing to organise some of your Redline gearbox oil.

Him: Where did you hear about this? (angrily)

Me: On the Skyline Forum (stunned)

Him: They're all a bunch of wankers, we don't sell it, try Rick Shaw etc (hangs up)

The rest is history.

This little old lady did not provoke anything etc etc.

Enjoy the day, wherever this dyno day happens to be.

Humbla

Humbla, i have stories about certain workshops to, whilst others look at me in dismay and swear by the quality of their work.

Wasnt having a shot and didnt think you were hijacking the thread. Just saying no shop is free of people they havent done the right thing by.

I hope you choose to still maybe come, irrespective of where we end up having it.

If we dont get enough numbers im just going to pay the coin myslef and get a dyno pull under the belt before i start tinkering.

Humbla, if that's how it happened, then sure, that was pretty rude, and a less-than-ideal way to deal with a potential customer (to understate things a bit). I'm by no means trying to defend them, but perhaps due to some misinformation being posted on these forums, they had been inundated with calls about a product they didn't even sell... If that were the case, I could sort of understand that you might begin to get annoyed. Still, I'm only hypothesising, and if that were the situation anyway, it doesn't change the fact that it's rude.

I also wasn't attacking you or anything, I just thought it was an odd story to hear (although now that I think about it I've heard soooo much worse about a guy who deals in old American cars (the type of car I own), so anything's possible), and more often than not, people telling such stories seem to leave little details out of their version... :P

As Roy says, every workshop will have its detractors, as well as its zealous devotees. All I can say is that from my experience, a CAS dyno day seems to be a very smooth-running event, with some support from the participants.

'Nuff said from me, I think. ;)

My partner and I thought by giving everyone 3-4 runs and an explanation of what their car is doing was a good way to build up a repoire with people.

Obviously we were mistaken. If people want a dyno day where making $ is the prime consideration over car performance then I suggest you go somewhere else.

As for our existing customers from this forum and any new people interested in the technical side of things, we are more then happy to have a chat about your plans :D
