Well pretty much what the title says, have a few bits and pieces that need fitting and painting and was wondering what Canberra or surrounding area (Yass, Queanbeyan etc) businesses you have dealt with and which you would recommend based on quality and pricing. Also looking for some Window Tinting aswell, who would you recommend.

If possible could you give a rough estimate on prices aswell, looking at:

Window tinting in 35% black (Door windows, quarters and rear)

Front lip fitted and painted in white

Side skirts fitted and painted in white

Rear pods fitted and painted in white

Spoiler wing blade and end caps painted in black

and also some touch up paint on bonnet and rear wing to fix some stone chips and marks

Cheers for any help

Think i've heard Mac's in Quenbeyan mentioned before for window tinting, any idea on the prices?

Remember hearing a story on the forums about Neugel doing the dodge on someones bonnet and leaving scuff marks, anyone else have good things to say about neugel? Hopefully it was just a one off

give newgel a call. everone i've spoken to who has had work done there came out quite happy

I won't ever be taking my cars there again... i had my front bar, side skirts and rear bar resprayed when i had my skyline and on certain angles with certain lights it came out looking like a dull black as opposed to the standard glossy black like i am not talking a little off which i would have been ok with this was almost a completly different colour... So let's just say i am not happy with the work they did

Solartint in belconnen did my car for 350$, had a few cars done there, never had a problem.

:X $350 seems like a bit much, have been told that anything over $280 is too much to pay as even with parts and labour it shouldnt add up to that, so an extra $70, do you get a bit of a cuddle afterwards

meh well I thought it was reasonable, and like I said, never had a problem, , plus their pretty much local to me. I'll be going back to em for my next car.

I think you're forgetting he has another two windows more than you do. :D

Besides, who have you been 'told' by? ..Don't forget there is a difference in the quality of the materials used as well.

Otherwise,

I've seen nothing but good recommendations for Solartint.

I'll be getting my windows for my S13 done through Solartint, been quoted $290 all round for either ONYX or CHARCOOL film (60% heat rejection).

Lifetime warranty (non-transferable) against bubble, peel or crack and 99% U.V. protection. They are all as dark as legal. (35% VLT)

Also, advice regarding JRacing and NewGel.. Don't go there asking for price quotes and then argue with them and haggle the price down and still expect a perfect job.

Either accept their prices or go elsewhere; reduce the price and you reduce their service and quality.

Seen too many examples of people haggling the prices and then complain about getting an unsatisfactory job.

One other thing to keep in mind, I have had no personal experience with any of this stuff yet.. I'm basing this off from the people I know and their experiences.

Perhaps check out this thread too - http://www.nissansilvia.com/forums/index.p...howtopic=259529

So basically you are having a dig at him for saying he has been told by a friend and then you go on to say you have no personal experience with any of this and have been told by a friend yourself... seems a bit hypocritical...

I have had my SSS Pulsar tinted by solar tint in Fyshwick before and one of my power window stopped working afterwards. They accepted no responsibility for it either which was annoying as it was working perfectly before they were given the car... luckily it was just the contacts on the winder must have got some water on it when they were cleaning the window and after it dried out it started working again... I will still go back to them though as that sort of stuff i figure can happen.

Also in regards to tinting I have been quoted my front two windows will be $50 each so $100 in any tint I want except for the special stuff so I wouldn't say <$280 is unreasonable considering he has a two door. Are you only getting the front two windows and the rear quarters done ???

No, not really having a dig at him at all.

Just wanted to point out those factors to consider.

At least I expressed that I've had no experience rather than giving a false impression that I have otherwise.

Haha didn't take the extra windows into account, makes sense :whoops:

Forgot to mention that im just after sides and rear (including quarters) in 35% tint

As for haggling prices, i never mentioned anything relating to this :X All i was asking for was personal reviews on different local businesses in regards to prices and quality of work so i could make a decision on where i should head.

Nah just wanted to mention it, as understandably it can leave a bad impression on someone and skew people's views without taking in the whole picture.

I've heard a lot of negative comments about various bodywork places in Canberra from people and have seen the results for myself.

But quite often, you don't tend to see the whole picture; realise what's actually going on and see it from the other side's perspective on the situation. :whoops:

By the way, here is the official NSW RTA article regarding window tint - www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/downloads/vsi/vsi03_rev3.pdf

$220 both times from memory, i also scratched the shit out of the tint on one of my windows a couple of years ago, havnt had any dramas with bubbles and peeling

If they needed to do the car twice, how good are they? more info needed maybe.

I had them tint it to a level that dickson didnt really like, so i took it off and got a more legal level put on after i passed. no question about quality in my eyes, as i said above, its top quality

    • Don't do it if your gearbox box has already having syncro issues. The short hifter will put a greater load on them. If you must I remember Nismo did a shorter shifter, with the top part being physically shorter and the part that went into the gearbox was the same as stock. In saying that I've had a C's short shifter (I think) in mine for many years, which was given to me as the previous owner was not sympathetic to the gearbox. Thus forwarned I was careful and had to modify my normal changing style. You have to be super accurate with your clutch and shifts
    • Well, after a week of daily driving and having to crawl out between the wheel and the side intrusion bars. I got myself a quick release setup. I went with an NRG short hub and Quick Release with some cute heart cutouts on the pull tabs. Nice and matchy matchy with the rest of the interior accents I have going on.  The only downside is the total stack height even with the short adapter is longer than the old HKB boss kit. Luckily I had some adjustment left on the column so move the wheel away.
    • stock shifter with new bushes, springs and cup will improve it. Gktech do all the bits. The opinion as the years have gone on is the redline is not great in old gearboxes.
    • Hi all   what short shifter do you use on your skykine r34?   my synchronous does have a problem and i was getting huge delay and grinding sound between 2nd and 3rd, did put shockproof red heavy stuff and it is great now/ no issues   would in your view short shifter screw this up?   people seems to suggest/ use cube short shifter and there is standard and premium. Seen review of premium as much better and less play. Thoughts?
    • Yeah, there's a bit of a density and friability difference between pebbles and any of those other things. Silicone will definitely float in oil and so will be mobile enough to move around. Although, again, if it is upstream of the filter it really shouldn't go any further. I would only ever worry about silicone when it is in places downstream of the filter. Upstream of the pickup is a whole 'nother matter. We've all seen what that does. I have seen the most abominable crap settled out in industrial gearboxes, trunnion lube systems and the like, without any sign that any of it has touched anything in the machine. Just chilling in the bottom, waiting for the inevitable operator error that causes the whole machine to need to be dismantled for repairs.
