I wouldn't bother with the RB20 especially coming from a V8 with bottom end grunt. You will see what I mean after you slap a turbo on it to make decent power 200rwkw+ and it comes on boost by at least 4k.

Slap the 3ltr in there with the twin cam head.

Depends what you are using the car for. If its for the track the RB20 will be fine, if its for the street go the RB20.

The good thing is you can still slap a big turbo and ic on to it and if you arn't happy rebuild a RB30 bottom end for just under 1k then slap a RB25DE head on it for 750.

Drop the motor in and with the turbo you can expect a reduction in spool time by 50% and heaps more torque.

Hey guys,

Just want to say love V8s and Skylines and that there is a Nissan Skyline that can't out-handle a Holden (oh, alright. It's a Prince Skyline). I know cause my '66 GT-B Prince can't keep up with Torrie XU-1s 'round corners. Older 60s Yank and Oz V8s are no competition but the smaller, nimbler Torries eat the ol' GT-B... Mind you, it's funny to watch their faces when the 2.5L 6-cyl blows straight by their 3.3L 6-cyl on the straights...

Ahh good old street commodores...

try and post a message containing the word 'mindflux' and see what happeneds. :P

as a commodore drive myself, i will admit i am abit disapointed with this car australians rave so much about.

Its an ok car, havnt had any problems with it apart from a few minor things.

but I think its time for the VS to go and hopefully say hello to a R32 GTS-t ...

Only Money and Time Will tell..

Is that the one that chopped the UAS 300z on the straight at Eastern Creek. What a monster

VT VX VY has 152kw I think. A little bit more than an NA Skyline, but a lot more weight. I would say an NA Skyline would still be quicker than any of the V6 Commodores.

Is yours a manual and the Commodore an auto? Autos will feel a lot faster off the line, even my mate's auto Corolla feels quicker off the line than my Skyline if you just press the accelerator down moderately on takeoff (ie don't slip the clutch on the Skyline).

Also your car is a lot older, it might not be making as much power as when new due to lost compression or blocked injectors etc. Get a tune-up done and see what happens.

How much does an R33 weigh? A V6 Commy should tip the scales at around 1560kg for an Executive V6 VT-VX and 1580kg for a VY. SS' are quite a bit heavier (even though GenIII is all alloy) at 1670kg. It's a lot of inertia to get moving off the line...

Series 1 R33 GTS-t with manual box is 1360kg, give or take depending on optional stuff like ABS, sunroof, etc. Series 2's are 10kg more because of the air bag and rear strut brace (I guess). Autos are another 20kg heavier again.

Non-turbo versions are 50kg lighter. That seems a lot, because I can only think of the following which saves weight: Brakes and wheels (smaller), turbo, intercooler. I guess it all adds up.

Do the cars have different trim? Would you belive there can be as much as 15kg difference between fully padded Sube WRX seats and the optional STi racey buckets? It all adds up, even sound proofing...

I must admit, i stopped liking Holdens after the HQ Monaro GTS Coupe...

I have to tell everyone what happend the other day - it was funny.

Comming home from work I see a nice new comodore waiting at the turn left lane - he had to give way to me.

It was black with nice mags with silver flames up the front of it !!

Once i had gone past of course he had to give it a boot full and get past me to make a some sort of point I think ???

All the time I'm just pottering around doing 60km/h cause that's the limit and cause the motor was stone cold.

He got infront by sitting right up someones butt, but I think he was happy cause he ended up being one car length in front of me at the lights........

He speeds off and then further up the road he is infront of me at a T intersection turning right. Of course he waited for me to get behind him even though there was no traffic comming (I'm still pottering around at 60km/h).

He takes off doing a big burnout for about 20 metres to prove something. Not sure what it was, but I'm sure it was something....

Then a notice that he is only spinning one wheel. Only one black mark !!!

After he finished the burnout he slowed right down and watch me go around the corner... I just took off slowly and pottered around the corner....

Surely the new comodores have LSD's ??? Or maybe his LSD was stuffed already? Or maybe he changed it to a single spinner so he could do burnouts???

Either way I think he got the extra power (and ego) from the silver flames cause I'm sure they would add at least 20hp at the wheels !!

It was a funny experiance, I just wish if could have heard me laughing....

Anyway, why do people do that? I suppose it's just showing off or is it cause they are intimidated by Skylines?

J
