how u all doin.

well recently im finding my P/S pump to be making rattling sounds when i drive it for a while. or when i drift it. the resivour is normally too hot to touch when this problem occurs..

fluid colour is a brownish red. i normally use dexron III.. i just added 100ml of nulon (think thats the brand) with stop leak just incase.. it was running low..

now my question is. what fluid do you guys use when out at the track.?

should i fit a cooler..? perhaps an auto skyrine tranny cooler

do the resivour beanies ppl use (drifters) lower the heat..

i also have a S/Steel manifold.. barely and shielding on the turbo and standard raised bonnet so gets quite hot underneath there.

add a cooler, takes about an hour and is soo simple. use a r33 auto trans cooler i think i paid 20 bucks for the one on our car.

The quick fix is to install a cooler. Which is also the best fix. Get yourself a small (say 100mm x 200mm) radiator & plumb it into the power steering circuit. Some Nissans (not sure what you have) already have an inadequate finned tube arrangement infront of the radiator. Rip that out & replace it with hose & the small cooler.

Job done.

As for fluid. If is smells & is browm replace it. Just use any old gear it doesn't matter.

and no the beanie does not cool the resevoir. lol. it's to soak up spills and prevent those oil spills from starting fires on your exposed manifold. which I would highly reccomend you do something about heat shielding.

Where on a 32GTR do I pull the lines to the cooler, and the return line?

Also, when you plumb up a cooler, do you need to bleed the Power Steer, or is it a self bleeding system?

32gtr has the cooling loop in front of the AC core. If you are fitting a proper cooler then it's just a matter of removing the hoses at each end where they go through the radiator support next to the drivers side headlight and running new lines from there, then ripping out the factory loop.

Then just top up the fluid, start the car and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock for a while, checking the fluid level as you do and topping up as necessary. When it stops making odd noises you are done.

I had a look at the service manual last night - just wasn't sure how to bleed it up.
