Hi all,

I just renewed my policy with just car.And i had to add afew more mods to the policy from last year (mods in sig)

I was told that if the mods are not legal my policy will be void if i tried to make a claim. And with all the money ive put into the car plus how much ive paid in insurance over the last 2 years i certainly dont want my policy void if i need to make a claim.

So the only thing that will be illegal on the car as far as i can see is the exhaust, last time i tested it,it was 94.6db.With the new turbo and dump it would now probably be 95-96db.I can get an engineers ticket for the car off this guy and it will say everything is up to code.

So if i do need to make a claim i will be ok.OR ill have to find a highflowing exhaust that is 90db.

What would you do???

CHEERS

read through the policy booklet im pretty sure i read in it ages ago that they can only void your insurance if the illegal mod contributed or caused the accident. I could be wrong havent read the policy book in ages but worth a look i guess.....

either way I'd be looking at getting the car engineered.

Always helps if a cop pulls you over, although they might find something else to nab you on.

Id give them a call (just cars) and ask them if the modification didnt cause the accident would you still be covered.

Yeah I reckon that'll be a good idea. What's the chances of having a car that's modified and completely legal? The chances are pretty small.

hot rods?

majority of them are modded and engineered/legal!

was thinking...put it this way.

If someone ran up the back of you and you were stopped at a red light.

Did the FMIC cause the accident?

No cause you werent at fault.

However, late night, Old pac...single vehicle accident...something to the car and you has contributed to the accident!

i asked my gf and she told me that she had exhaust wheels and stereo on the insurance, but she said, say u got a 10k motor with all this work there not guna pay you an extra 10k,

look mate i would even bother andding exhaust and shit its just guna cost you more...

when the car got hit the power fc , boost controller were sitting on the passenger seat CLEAR view of the inspector they didnt say a word bout the illegal mods and we still got payed out our full amount

    • We have 2x Swifts and my plans for a Swift, unfortunately, do not extend to an intake and an exhaust. I've been having dirty thoughts about a 2.5L Suzi V6, AWD gearbag out of a suitable donor, rear floorpan graft to take the rear cradle from same, and either trumpets of evil or a small supercharger. If I'm going to make noise in a Swift, I want it to be anti-social, evil handling and rough. Probably need to be fully stripped inside, matt black paint, plastic windows, 7" wide wheels, big brakes, silly suspension, etc etc etc. I have no idea if any of the proposed driveline components could take the pain. But it would be a hoot finding out.
    • Really, anyone modifying a car isn't being financially smart. We're doing it for the things we love. And honestly, a high revving, light, NA car is actually pretty darn fun. I used to have a Swift Sport, and I miss that thing as a daily, and yes, doing something like some intake and exhaust stuff would have made minimal gains, but would have bought an even bigger smile
