Police has unlaiden mass of each car in their system.

Im sure if you ask one nicely they will show you the weight.

Thats how i found the weight of the r32 (in their system, most likely based on series 1 model but thats another story...)

it's the law - they have their official figures, which may or may not be representative, but you can't change that, you can't argue that (except in court, as R31 has said).

if you don't like it, move to another country.

(old but applicable)

A bit of a tangent but, to be honest the tactics Victorian police are using to save lives are completely unguided. There is no hard evidence to relate high-performance cars with more accidents. In-fact, it is usually these "high-performance" cars which have greater safety features / better brakes / control etc, so in the event of an accident the occupants are less likely to be seriously injured. Hell, any car can reach 150km/h and plough into a tree. They are only focusing on the speeding issue with drivers, where they should be focusing more on driver education.

i don't care if this was a 'high powered car' or not, but these laws are designed to protect young, stupid drivers. I was one, once.

you get caught, too bad. it may prevent this:

Something tells me that one had more to do with road head than high powered vehicles.

Driver training protects young drivers. Nothing protects stupid drivers.

o.k let me get this straight...everyone knows that the 33 and 34 turbos are restricted from p platers because of power to weight law...this i understand but is the r32 gtst legal to drive on your p's if you got your p's before july 1st 2007? so many people are telling me they are illegal but as mentioned above he reckons they aren't?

is the r32 legal to drive on p's?

also sorry to hear that mate but its true what everyone has said you are most likely gonna lose ur license if you only had one demerit left.

I think it is probably safe to say that if there is any ambiguity at all in the question,

= ITS NOT LEGAL! :)

at least in the eyes of most police officers!

ASSUME= Makes an ASS of U n ME

i heard that the weight they (cops) use in calculating p2w was the unladen weight of the car - ie the car w/o any fuel, oil and other consumables. is this different to the factory quoted specs and if so does any one know where to find them?

i spoke to a high cop on the phone for a good hour after copping a p2w fine. even though my car was technically under p2w he said the place which calculates as you said is called DOTARS. i'd be guessing they would record the specs as different to factory specs.

as for tezflow, sorry to say but i copped 12 months suspended license after breaking my 1 year 1 point option. this wasn't a court matter, it was automatic. if you were to take it to court, and show some sort of proof that you needed your car for work then maybe you would be let off like i was the 1st time.

moved from NZ had my open at 17  and no not really help just like to share it round haha.

to help the matter = i have done alot of research to the laws here, and the only way any1 can get away with driving how power vehicles is by what dmr mentioned, work vehicle. I dont think transport to get to work n back will work lol

according to Gran Turismo 3;

the R32 Series 2 (looks exactly like my car :yucky: ) has 155kw and 1260kg which makes it 123kw/tonne

if its in Gran Turismo 3 then it has to be right :nyaanyaa:

when police officer showed me his system, the unlaiden weight stated was 1250kg for r32 gtst

So if the power of r32 is 155,156,157kw it is still P-Plate legal

Just need to find an official verified source for the total power.

Ive emailed vicroads and they did not have a power rating for my car but stated that with the figures i sent them the car is legal.

Hope it helps

I have an email from them, but reckon i could flash it to a cop and he accept it?

I refer to your enquiries dated 15 July 2007 regarding whether a Nissan Skyline HR-32 Gts-t 1991-1993 is considered to be a high powered vehicle.

It is the responsibility of the driver to ensure that any vehicle you drive is not a high powered motor vehicle. To ensure this you may need to obtain Weight Bridge Certificate to confirm the tare mass of the vehicle and check with the manufacturer for engine power.

Based on the limited information you presented for the calculation of power to weight ratio, most probably your vehicle is not classed as a high powered vehicle. Our estimates show that the power for this vehicle is likely to be 158kw and weight is 1320kg. The power to weight ratio for this specification does not exceed the 125kw per tonne limit and would therefore allow you to drive this vehicle on a probationary licence (obtained before 1 July 2007).

Also, if your car is modified, you may also need to obtain an engineer's certificate and notify VicRoads of any significant modification.

Email probably not, being you can edit things before printing out and so-on.

They will send you a letter, on letterhead/signed in the mail if you ask.

But then, you'd need to be driving a 100% stock car dont forget. Cant go quoting factory figures if the car has an exhaust for example. You'll dig your own hole if thats the case

damn this stupid law to hell...even though technically the r32 gtst coupe sounds like its under power to weight, its most likely the verdict is that it still is classified over power to weight for p platers by the cops since dmr got done by driving one. reason is i ask is cause i am 19 and got my license last year in march and now planing to get a r32. since the new laws came in though it seems as though the old laws became more matter of fact to cops.

vic roads or dotars or whoever should have a list where everyone can have access and look at what car they can't buy instead of keeping everyone guessing god damnit.

anyone else driving one on their p plates or even a 33 at that and been done for power to weight?

i wanna know my chances of getting done for power to weight lolz. might have to get into a 32 sedan instead?
