I get the same thing...sounds like a cross between a fart and a cow mooing...I think its something to do with the fuel pump cos it usually happens to mine when the fuel is on the low side...it has done it for ages with no other problems arising from it.... dam embarrassing if you pull up where there are people around.. turn the car off and watch the reaction as the car lets out what sounds like a big pizza fart!.....that being said....I did notice my attessa fluid level was on the min marker recently.I haven't topped it up cos I forgot if it took power steering fluid or auto tranny fluid (please inform me)

Umm, don't you just use ATF fluid in the power steering resivior?

Only if it is a tiptronic! Otherwise you steering wheel will want to shift up all the time... I hate that...

(don't listen to me)

Could it be the Air con? Do you have it on when this happens?

Not sure how answering a question with another question is going to inform me...so what goes in the attesa reservoir?...

Pretty sure it's ATF (Auto Transmission Fluid). But if you do a search you'll find what's best. Mine did the same but it was because the rolling dimension of my front and rear tyres weren't the same. Once I fixed that and topped up the Attessa fluid all was good.

How much difference was there. Was it different size tyres or was the difference due to different tyre wear front/rear?

Can't remember what the % allowable difference was, but wear and tear wouldn't really cause it as it would be within the tolerance. When i bought the car, the dealer whacked on the 17" RS4S rims on it which had different profiles. Once i replaced the rears to match the rolling dimension of the front (235's vs 215's) and topped up the fluids, the shuddering stopped.

I had that same shuddering in my car. I was travelling on the highway and had 225/55r17's on the front and 225/50r17's on the rear. The "4WD" light started flashing. I changed to the same size all round the next day and it was all good

Sorry, I was having a bad day. I had just washed my brain and I couldn't do a thing with it :P

My point was, ATF is used in the power steering, auto trans and atessa.

Hi guys,

My S2 is making this 'fart' noise too when I turn it off; doesn't seem to be fuel related as I had about 1/3 of a tank; did anybody find the cause of this? Not tyres either 'cause I've got 4 new 205/55/16's on it on standard rims... just got back from compliance and all filters have been changed etc...

Check the Attessa reservoir. Make sure the level is above Min. Right hand side rear in the boot.

When this thread was first up, I checked my Attessa fluid and it was fine. I still think it has something to do with the fuel tank. Still happens now and then to mine.. but never when the tank is full..and only makes a noise when I turn the car off....something to do with the fuel pump..still ot sure... but it does not seem to do anything apart from make a noise.

cool thanks; will do! Has to be checked with engine running though doesn't it? That will take a few days lol... if it's gotten air in the system enough to cause a 'fart' will it need bleeding?

I've found that the levels have to be chacked with the car running too. Slightly above the MAX line is good. With mine, if it's below the MAX line it'll still occasioanlly "groan" when i turn the engine off.
